Review: There is a niche scene out there right now where spaced-out breaks, deep house, prog, original tech house and trance are all getting distilled and reworked into compelling new sounds. This EP is a perfect example of that from Enzo Leep. It is bouncy but with real weight, colourful but serious and always nice and deep. '"2000's Dreams' is the balmy opener then there is more turbulence and twisted energy to 'Nasty'. 'El Aquelarre' is a super cool pumper with bobbling bass and wispy sci-fi synths then 'Timeless' shuts down with astral star gazing and screwy bass funk.

Review: Los Caneyes was the first ever solo project from Cuban funk master Juan Pablo Torres and now Future Rootz - in collaboration with Canal Sounds and EGREM - is serving up a first-ever vinyl release of his early singles 'No Estabas No estabas Tu' and 'Oye Ven Y Baila Mi Son' on 7". These two superbly funky Afro-Cuban tracks were recorded in 1973 by this influential musical innovator. The first is a flame-hot and percussion-laden groove that is loose-limbed and sure to get those bones shaking and the second is similar - pure Latin heat for the floor.

Review: Tyresta's Small Hours album (a direct follow-up to 2020's All We Have) comes on beautiful 180-gram splatter green vinyl via Past Inside The Present and is another majestically subtle and intimate ambient work that explores "impermanence, grief, loss, healing, and growth". It's an album that reveals more with each listen as the carefully layered-up synths and melodies intertwine harmoniously to make for a perfect late-night soundtrack. There's plenty of soul searching to be done while lost in the midst of this album, but it will be a rewarding task as you cannot fail to find "solace, rejuvenation, and a rekindling of the unfettered spirit," as the label puts it.

Review: Fresh Sounds #000 is a new and unique series, limited and numbered to 150 examples thanks to the efforts of its parent company Ribo Cochlee. For the very first edition of the series, a mockley crew of newcomers come to the fore, be they DJ Moar, Disco Flegrei or Holdtight. Centring on woozy jazzdance and disco with an airily produced bent, the highlights on this one have to be Flegrei's 'Titamesque', which basks in a kind of sexy sophistry procured by the heady combination of live drums and a (we think) muted bass clarinet, and Yured Jones' 'Far Away', which breaks from the genre prescription for a more cinematic breakdown.

Review: Did you, like us, have a rebellious nu-metal phase in your teenage years? If so then you will likely have been a big fan of US rockers Incubus, who had a wide range across several great albums - from star gazing and introspective works like Wish You Were Here to the more punk-funk rawness of Fungus Amongus. This was the band's debut album in 1995 and fuses alt-rock, rap metal, funk rock and rapcore with plenty of thrashing guitars and hard-ass drums as well as Brandon Body's snarling and growling vocals. It is one of funk mental's most celebrated albums and remains a firm favourite to this day.

Review: Rome's Andy Romano is welcomed into the Bordello family with his long-awaited debut release, 'Monday'. The tracks it consists of were shelved for more than ten years, said to have floated between a handful of DJs after its first confidant, Andrea Confrancesco, chose a different path in his creative career by becoming a professional illustrator. An excellent example of naive, nigh-lo-fi new beat, but no less punchy and galactic, 'Monday', 'Loredane' and 'Cyber Black Spaceship' are a veritable trident of watery, retrofuturistic, catchy wonderment.

Review: The excellent Mondo Groove label out of Italy takes us on another worldly disco trip across eight fantastic cuts. Nuccio Di Vico immediately hook you in with the lazy rhythms and starry synths of 'Lasciati Amare' and from there Momo Yang gets more funky on 'Peggio Per Te' and Patrizia Caselli ups the ante with the funky bass riffs and tooting horn arrangements of 'Un Amore Anonimo.' Highlights on the B-side, which is just as good, incudes the more steamy and erotic sounds of Gloria Piedimonte's 'Chi Sei' and percolating disco funk of Spataneri Sebastiano Aria's 'Vagabondo Non Sono.' Review: There are few bigger or more celebrated Italo-disco singles than Kano's 'I'm Ready', which became an anthem on underground U.S dancefloors (as well as in its native Italy) following its release in 1980. Here it gets a new pressing courtesy of re-established original Italo-disco label Full Time Production, with Kano's original mix - a soaring, synth-heavy sing-along driven forwards by waves of arpeggio-style synth sounds and insatiably funky bass - being joined by a trio of 21st century revisions. Mousse T delivers vocal and instrumental takes that cleverly chop-up and loop up key sections to re-imagine the track as a surging funky house number smothered in vintage Italo-disco synth sounds, while FrescoEdits stretches out an extra-percussive disco groove before throwing in choice synth sounds and vocals from Kano's peerless original mix.

Review: Gaucho dropped his still classic 'Dance Forever' back in 1983 and this reissue has specially mastered the whole thing ready for deployment on modern dancefloors. It first arrives in its original format and has raw and dusty drum machine energy overlaid with insistent percussion and splashy hits that all build towards the release of some majestic Italo arps. The Club Version is a little more direct and then last of all comes 'Dance Forever' (Musta & Stefano Ritteri remix) which extends the breaks and allows the sci-fi synth work extra room to work its charms.

Review: You will not be surprised to learn that the last issue of this earlier in summer sold out almost instantly so Sony has done there right thing and reissued it also straight away. It is a 2002 compilation album by the legendary rapper that arrived a year after the game-changing wordsmiths come back. It includes several tracks that were unreleased at the time having been culled from recording sessions done during Nas's previous studio albums I Am... in 1999 and Stillmatic in 2001. Sparse, lo-fi beats are detailed with observational lyrics about urban life. Nostalgic and personal and a bit of a departure from his usual style, they still bite pretty hard.

Review: Clipse dropped his hip-hop LP Til The Casket Drops in 2017 and it has been pretty much out of print and hard to find ever since release day. It turns out to be his final record but now six years later it gets reissued by Get On Down on 'fruit punch' coloured was in a gatefold jacket with cover art by the much-hyped model maker KAWS. As well as a standout guest spot from none other than Kanye West, the record packs a punch with weighty hip-hop joints and hard hitting bars addressing a wide range of subjects.
