The breadth of Piero Umiliani reissues over the last few years has been nothing short of spectacular. Once the current scene was exposed to the late artist's wide-reaching catalogue, different labels have flooded in to resurface his best work - which all sounds far ahead of its time. This, Il Mondo Dei Romani, is perhaps the most interesting of his reissues yet, but not only for its music. This is a soundtrack to a '70s documentary that Umiliani made about Ancient Rome, so not only do you get incredible avant-garde music, but also an interesting setting or story to attach to it. Umiliani's ingenious balance between futurism and classicism is just perfect, and while there is always something very stable at the core of his tracks, the artist had a way of introducing new and strange sounds that just makes sense. Although we recommend you o listen to all of his work, this one might well be our favourite yet.
