Review: Len Faki's ambitious Fusion project aw the German techno titan really dig deep into his own production process and challenges himself to up his game. The results were superb and devastating on the floor, and so have been the remixes he has served up on his own Figure label. This collection sees some top names rework the originals into their own style with Pangaea bringing some slick future synth work to 'Space Cowboys I', Rroxymore bringing heavy percussive grooves to 'Tor 8' and Truncate adding his signature rock solid drum funk to 'It's Time (To Move Your Body).' A very useful collection for DJs and dancers.

Review: The highly respected and busy ARTS label has released their latest What Will Remain When We're Gone by Paul Roux. The title track is a melodic burner that succeeds triumphantly with heavy percussion, anthemic crescendos and at a blistering pace. Amazing! 'Burning' is a fantastic as well. Dramatic and engaging, we love the way it favors melody over the supporting rhythm giving it a more atmospheric sound. On the B-side, 'Maybe It's Love' adds some soft-spoken female singing to it giving us strong 2000s era flashbacks. This is a really strong and perhaps underrated 12". Give this the opportunity to play through and you will want to revisit these often. ARTS continues to come through with excellent techno.

Review: Ohm and Kvadrant continue to offer their services in the dub techno vein; clearly, this isn't their first Kontakt. 'Treasure Of Kings Garden' reflects a single fantasy: the muted pleasure of discovering a forbidden gem buried at the bottom of his royal majesty's grounds. We imagine Ohm and Kvadrant's king to be a tyrant; necessarily, in fact, his sadism is the exact measure against which this diamond's value can be measured. The three mixes of the sole track 'Precious Little Diamond' unfurl like different stages of bejewelled delight and respite, from the initial 4x4 discovery to Deadbeat's halfstep black market laundering, and followed shortly by Levon Vincent's impressively textural evocation of cathartic relief, on receipt of such requisitioned-then-resold royal riches.

Sessions' arrives in several different formats this month and across six sizzling tracks that re-wire the KLF's hit of that name, he taps into everything from "ephemeral ambiance to barnstorming hardcore, pummelling house to pointillist trance" and does so with a mix of the surreal and the psychotic, the psychedelic and the downright ridiculous. Sessions' he taps into the future as he rewires the musical DNA of rave, techno, bass and jungle into tracks that make your brain fizz and your body move. Review: Earwax's Tar 21 is a punishing but dynamic techno EP that showcases the artist's mastery of the genre and the five tracks explore a range of techno subgenres, from industrial to tech house, offering a diverse and captivating listening experience. 'Behind The Grid' sets the tone with its relentless warehouse techno, characterised by heavy industrial elements and a driving beat. 'Raw Shadow' transports the listener to a science fiction landscape with its stomping rhythm and percussive intensity. 'Fast Human' takes a more upbeat turn, galloping forward with an almost house feel. Review: Feel-good minimal from Rico Friebe and Rico Puestel on faux-gold-foiled 12" vinyl, who lend their signature style a surprise French touch. Echoing timeless Thomas Bangalter, 'How You Feel (For Me)' is a detuned synth sweeping swathe of chord and offbeat hat, all centring on a hypnotic repetitious acknowledgement of how the listener feels. The B-side features said acapella, in all its standalone emotive glory. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether we're being told how to feel or whether we're being asked, but with a banger such as this one, we're not inclined to care about the difference!

Review: Five years have now passed since Russia-based Stef Mendisis first set out his stall as a maker of dark, intense, lo-fi and mind-altering club techno. In that time he's released just as handful of 12" singles, though all have been spot on. There's plenty to enjoy on the Greek producer's first outing on Mancunian label CLERGY, from the warehouse-friendly, stab-happy stomp of opener "Critical Ratio", to the similarly slamming surge of closing cut "Chroma", where hands-aloft riffs and short, looped female vocal snippets ride a booming, lo-fi techno groove. Sandwiched in between you'll find more rave-ready business, with the clap happy, organ-sporting peak-time sweatiness of "Memorex" standing out.

Review: Drumcode supremo Adam Beyer has become increasingly more prolific in recent years, signalling a creative renaissance that recalls the undoubted quality of his work in the late 1990s and early 2000s. His first outing of 2024, which follows a quartet of EPs last year, is predictably strong and packed to the rafters with future Drumcode anthems. Fittingly, he starts with 'Let's Begin', where mutilated vocal loops, mind-mangling rave noises and unsettling melodic motifs dance atop a typically thunderous and breathless big room techno groove, before opting for a dirtier, acid-flecked groove, metallic noises and sped-up hip-hop vocal samples on 'Computerized' (hip-techno anyone?). To round things off, he goes darker and denser still on the loopy techno power of 'Red Room', which pleasingly also boasts the same Aisha vocal sample as the Orb's 'Blue Room'.

Review: 2023 was a knockout year for Portuguese artist Temudo, taking in techno totems like Blueprint, Klockworks and Hayes in pursuit of his driving, sharply-focused sound. Now he lands on Italian label Sublunar with more of that refined, precision engineered gear for the wormhole crew. 'U Where My Second Choice' is a taut, edgy workout with a nagging synth hook, but 'Asset 2' ratchets down to a pure, heady locomotion which will take you tunnelling deep into the night. '2029' has a restrained funk which will work the body good and proper, and 'Affection' simmers down to a minimal palette peppered with pointed blips moving in expertly sequenced formations - smart techno at its finest.

Review: Innershades has always dealt in lo-fi, misty sounds that are steeped in beauty and melancholy and offer plenty of subtle homages to Detroit. Here he cooks up more electro magic on the Explorer EP, which is again minimalistic in design but maximal in terms of dancefloor impact. His melodies really convey true emotional pain and the drums bring sleek electro energy and brilliance. 'Unknown Depths' is a serene one to open with, 'Explorer' brings some acid modulations and extra percussive snap and 'Aquaculture' is the most liquid and dubby cut here. 'Super 6' has a sense of hope for the future in its brighter, more optimistic melodies. Exceptional stuff.

Review: The fifth release on Kimchi Records comes wrestled from the hands of Ecuadorian mastermind Fauna Extinta, aka. Nicola Cruz. The First EP under the alias, we hear Nicola make use of electro analogia to explore idea of a biology that once was, but no longer is, and now lingers only in memory or myth. Drawing on ideas of creation, biogeography, evolution and extinction, the likes of 'Everything Is A Green Screen' and 'Features Of Human Beings' serve as biosynthetic, existential meditations on change, urging us to imagine new realms, alternative means for actualizing the human spirit.

Review: Well travelled techno auteur Regent finds himself next up on the small but already fiercely formed Warg label with four blistering new cuts. 'Elekta' is a full bodied one with weighty drum funk overlaid by a tight weave of bright synths. 'Bygone' is more straight ahead, a buoyant cut with oversized hi-hats and synths peeling off at pace. 'Moonburn' thumps with real intent as it races along at 100 miles an hour and last of all 'Submerged' gets you into a 5am zoned out state. All four of these are useful, characterful cuts once more from Regent.

Review: Netherlands hard techno outfit ARTS, who command a happy reputation for pushing the boundaries of the genre while also conserving its most danceable elements, return with this latest four-tracker, a collaborative effort by Thimo Konings and SAMA. Springing naturally from two earlier collabs from 2023, both of which appeared on Konings' 'Tumbleweed' EP, their synergy as a duo comes to fruition on this utterly sonic mind-flayer, of which 'Sense Of Dread' and 'Matic' are the highlights.

Review: Stockholm label Kvalia has been shaping out a sound which tips towards heads-down, dub-minded techno from artists like DJ Nobu, Psyk and Mary Yuzovskaya. Now they're strengthening their vision with a masterclass from one of the best in the game, Andreas Tilliander. As the chap responsible for those incredible acid dub techno workouts as TM-404, Tilliander sounds utterly comfortable and compelling in equal measure on 'Oroia' and 'Veia'. The sound is dense and warm, full of subtle details but understated like the best deep techno should be. Luigi Tozzi and Svreca pop up on the B side for remixes which hold true to the overall meditative vibe of the record, making this a must for all heads-down, eyes-closed DJs.

Review: Tyree might not get the headlines that many of his Chicago peers do but it's hard to see why. One reason might be that he was big on hip-house, a fusion of, well, hip-hop and house that never quite fully took off and got the respect it should. Here he offers something more raw and aligned with the first wave of Chicago jack. 'Video Crash' is a scintillating analogue fusion with pushing synths and caustic perc. It gets even more acidic on the remix and then the Traxman Funkbomb rework ups the vocal event for pure destruction.

Four new ones from Steve Redhead, Maxx Rossi, David Moleon and David Oblivion all jackhammer the ear in quick succession, keeping levels redlined and atmospheric surface-tensions taut. Pressurised, cosmic and mystical themes abound on these pummelling techno numbers, of which our highlights are Oblivion's 'Motorhead' and Redhead's 'The Mist Of Time'.

Review: Prolific Lithuanian dub techno explorer Grad_U is back with a new album which further develops his explorations in realms well beyond the limitations of the dancefloor. Spectral Decay examines all manner of spatial processing, not to mention celebrating the power of the space between the pulses. There are still some steadfast technoid rhythms to latch onto, but the beats are always secondary to the atmospherics in Aleksandr Martinkevic's immersive productions. With a couple of remixes from kindred spirits such as Dominique Jacquinet and Ohrwert Alter folded in for good measure, this is another essential trip into the echo chamber from a master of the craft.

Review: Orlando Voorn has always been a vital link between the US and European techno scenes but he is just as adept at cooking up fresh electro sounds. It is that headspace that he is in here with this typically deep three-track offering on the Partout label. It is a journeying selection from the off as 'OV Chatterbox' layers up the heavy drums with squealing leads and prickly acid. 'Know The Ledge' is an off-grid jumble of bleeping electronics and crunchy rhythms then 'Baby' spins out on filtered loops and jungle sound effects that manage to sound summary and bright while also making for a physical groove.

Review: Limbic Resonance go big with this bumper double 12" compilation of absorbing ambient sounds from a range of popular names. Terence Fixmer goes first with booming bass rumbles and sparks of static electricity on 'Threetwoone' then the scratchy textures and mystic moods of 'Cardioid Resonance' set a bittersweet tone from 'Kujo'. Elsewhere Alessandro Adriani's 'Snakeskin' is a suspenseful layering of synths and drums and Ezuri RSOT's 'Blasphemous Bath' is sounds like a communication from a distant planet. Vatican Shadow, Ancient Methods, Zoviet France and more all contribute further excellent to this cinematic album.

Review: Italian techno trunculator Marco Faraone returns to ask: 'Any Good Vibe?' It's a good question, because truly good vibes can be hard to come by nowadays, not least in today's socio-economic-political climate, and Faraone proves himself more than able to channel this feeling of ambivalence, with his three newest tracks - the title track, 'Ego Kills' and 'Ghana' - spanning moods of both stress and joy in equal measure. Via these massive-room stonkers, suitable for both beachside shindigs and warehouse parties of dubious legality, we must indeed ask - where are the good vibes, if not inside ourselves?

Review: Berlin-based producer and DJ Barker has long been an underground innovator associated with plenty of vital labels but he hasn't dropped a new solo EP for a couple of years now. Thankfully he rights that wrong and and steps up to the 30 year strong Smalltown Supersound out of Oslo with a new four track offering that "sees him inverting the musical equation and exploring both the variability and sonic possibilities of a kick-drum." Opener 'Birmingham Screwdriver' will rewire your brain with its fizzing frequencies and skewed bass, 'Wick and Wax' is bright and hyperactive techno-pop and the flipside gets much more raw and dark. A fine return.

Review: Head High is a ling running alias of Polish techno producer Shed. It's for his more loopy and emotional sounds and has always been popular with DJs. This new EP is a mighty fine return that offers three track sou steamy, summer ready action for sunset and sundown sessions. 'Break Away' has fizzing synth lines and dusty drums with well placed vocals up top. 'Push It!' comes on much stronger, with harder drums and more prickly percussion but another fine vocal that adds that touch of emotion. Last of all is 'Chamber No 6', another dark cut with tightly programmed drums loops, scratching hits and a menacing bassline backlit by diffuse chords.

Review: Dino Sabatini returns to his own Outis Music label with another mesmerising selection of deep electronic sounds that seem to take plenty of influences from dub, downtempo, ambient and trip hop. The open has a creeping melodic sequence that is forever subtly shifting and brings a sense of eeriness to the smooth and unhurried dub rhythms below. 'Inenarrabilis' is then a double quick flurry of tiny synth loops and trippy effects then 'Plena Lunae' allows you to breathe once more and sink into a vast dub soundscape. 'Ego Experior' shuts down with some paranoid baselines bubbling up through a slowly churning groove. Some quality work here for sure.
