Having previously contributed to the Ruf Kutz series, Manchester-based editor extraordinaire Andi Hanley lands on Magic Wand with some off-grid treatments seriously worthy of your attention. First up on the A side is "Tied Up (Hanners edit)," which locks into a snaking, submerged and deliciously tense Afro work out for show-stopping dancefloor drama. "Happy Together" is much smoother by comparison, all laid back island boogie with cheery synth strings and ample bass sleaze to keep you warm at night. "Lucky Number" is a peppier 70s flavoured strutter that teases its ingredients out over a sustained set of riffs.

Drummer, composer and producer Moses Boyd has been labelled as "one to watch" since winning the "Best Jazz Act" gong at the 2015 MOBO Awards. Three years on, and with a handful of lauded EPs behind him, Boyd is finally ready to deliver his debut solo album. We say, "solo album", but "Displaced Diaspora" is undoubtedly a collaborative affair, with various invited guests joining in with Boyd's distinctively eclectic, anything-goes fusion fun. Afro-brass outfit Kevin Haynes Grupo Eleggua make a huge impression on a number of tracks, Zara McFarlane provides a sensual, sumptuous vocal on the classic late night jazz smokiness of "City Nocturne" and Terri Walker and Louis V rise above the organic, jazz-fuelled hip-hop soul brilliance of "Waiting On The Night Bus".

The Allergies - Steal The Show
CD
$9.03
Boom: three years, three albums. No biggie for Bristol duo The Allergies, Jalapeno's biggest success story since Kraak & Smaak. Each album shows them getting deeper into the groove, creeping away from the cheeky samples and sculpting their own pedigree funk originals. With Ugly Ducking Andy Cooper onside through the mix from the wild ride vibing "Fade Away" to the white knuckle lyrical fire of "Run It Back", there's a real band feeling to the whole album as familiar voices thread throughout the jams... including that of UK hip hop legend Dr Syntax.

Saine - Act Natural EP
12"
$9.58
Saine presents three diverse house essences following his previous releases on the likes of Odd Socks, Voyage and Must Have. "Act Natural" kicks things off with a rolling crunch before taking a sudden left turn into something so naturally uplifting you can't help but think of DJ Gregory in his prime. "Jus Right" eases back a little and digs deep into the wavey sliding synths before "Low Key" rounds off with a more hypnotic perspective. With Pontchartrain on remix duties, we're really being spoilt here. Straight up grandeur.
Kyoto Jazz Sextet - Rising
10"
$10.67
Hot on the heels of "Mission" earlier this year, Shuya Okino's Kyoto Jazz Sextet troupe present another gem from last year's Unity album complete with a remix of the highest calibre. This time the cascading, Latin rhythm and frenetic horn leads of "Rising" are given the midas dancefloor touch by none other than Ron Trent. Maintaining the wily spirit of the original while coating in warm organ blasts and subtly bumping kicks, it's a precision translation that brings the original into a whole new context.
The Internationals - Beautiful Philosophy
7"
$10.40
Regularly spotted passing hands for high triple figures, the Poindexter brothers' New York troupe's second D'ar Recording Company single finally enjoys a reissue. "Beautiful Philosophy" has a little northern soul stomp to it while still shimmering with 70s pop charm and some incredible harmonies while "Too Sweet To Be Lonely" takes The O'Jays' classic to emotional new highs with yet more fine tuned chorused vocals - too sweet to sleep on!
The spirit of Zapp lives on in Bay Area maverick Diamond Ortiz as he follows up his Street Funk edition with his first original 45 this year. Both loaded with that crucial Cali vibe, juicy synth bass and sleazy talkbox fronting, "Poster Girl" is the real street stalker that's loaded with such a tightly coiled swagger it wobbles. "In The Cut Like Whaat" turns down the tempo to turn the heat. Powerful, emotional and timeless. Shine on.
Famed Bologna selector Luca Trevisi digs deep into his crates for another edit session. Four jazz funk obscurities each one primed with the spirit the Irma affiliate has pushed since his residency at the famous Kinky Club in the 80s; vibes range from the belting Al Green style falsettos of "Trying My Best Love" to the dual guitar peaks and crazed bluesy frenzy of "Run Mona" and the Booker T style organ blasts of "Lick The Lollipop". Hot and indeed groovy.
