Demonstrating the artist's bold sidestep into cloud rap (as opposed to stark classics like 'Day N Nite'), this album contains slow-chugging dreamers like 'Mr. Solo Dolo III' and playful gut-bouncers a-la 'Tequila Shots', spanning collabs with Trippie Redd, Skepta, Pop Smoke and folk pop sensation Phoebe Bridgers. For those invested in Kudi's artistic progression, this is a concept album finding the rapper in an internal struggle against his evil alter-ego, Mr. Rager - whether Cudi prevails is up to the listener's interpretation.

Review: American artist Kid Cudi dropped his eighth studio long player Entergalactic on his own Wicked Awesome label. It is an accompaniment to an adult animated special of the same name in which he stars on Netflix. It is a record that finds him doing something rather different than before and features a lot of songs about love and relationships, but from an imaginary perspective given that he was single when he wrote them. Review: Always injecting the field of turntables with playful flair from day one, Kid Koala is a seasoned hand at spreading joy with his creations. In that sense, his new album concept isn't a huge surprise, but that doesn't detract from it being a brilliant and novel idea. Creatures Of The Late Afternoon is a new double-LP which also serves as the soundtrack to the included board game, which Koala has developed and designed himself. The over-arching concept revolves around the titular creatures adventuring on a mission to make a band, prizing community and threading in some environmental values without making the point too bluntly. Hitting a sweet spot towards broad appeal while holding true to his dexterous deck-juggling legacy, it's another fine step on for the mighty Koala.

Review: Kiefer is having a big month: he has just closed down his trilogy of EPs on Stones Throw with fantastic final offering, Between Days, which was inspired by thoughts of growing old and transition from one phase of life to the next. And now he offers up this splendid double 12". It is a masterful mix of pensive piano, jazz chord work and downtempo drums. There are lush, synth laced soundscapes for late night lovers, funk-fuelled, sax-driven jams and then cosmic, starry-eyed mood pieces that encourage your mind to wander. It is another essential release from this fine talent.

Review: Kiefer Shackleford is back on Stones Throw with more of his elevated beatdowns and dextrous piano flex. The LA-based artist first cropped up on Leaving Records back in 2017 and now he comfortably slides into his fifth album in a lean, sun-soaked dream of drums slung way down low and right to the back, leaving more room for his illustrious keys and synths to pirouette over the top. It's a simple recipe, but the secret is in the ingredients. The drums shuffle and slide with crooked flair, and the melodies burst skywards whether it's classic piano, woozy Rhodes or fluttering modulations Shackleford chooses to sing through.

Review: Perfectly straddling the transition from the bling rap era and the conscious rap movement, Killer Mike's 'RAP Music' was raved about when it released in 2012, receiving an 8.6 by Pitchfork and ending up high on countless end-of-year lists from publications. Killer Mike's hardstyle political lyricism, and exclusive star-studded line-up (including the likes of Scar, T.I. and E-IP) made this one of 2012's best releases. A consistent, high-quality flow with a fire pen and even hotter samples makes this one of the most overlooked hip-hop projects when it comes to the conversation of essentials. 'Go!', 'Untitled' and 'Southern Fried' are textual delights, to be expected from 2012 MVP front-runner EI-P. The latter being an ode to southern rap, often overlooked since the departure of Outkast (referenced in the lyrics "Ain't I Fresh, Ain't I Clean?"), even using the now infamous "Break" vocal sample used in Stankonia. Expect high class rapping, backed by soul claps, organ filled boom baps and funky bass. On a green double vinyl featuring those incredible instrumentals, this is the perfect treatment for what may be the most slept on rap project of that decade.

Review: For the past decade, Atlanta MC Killer Mike has been occupied with his global takeover of modern hip-hop along with partner in crime El-P, who together form the duo Run The Jewels. What initially spurred their collaborative efforts was Mike's previous solo endeavour R.A.P. Music released in 2012, with El handling production duties, and the pair haven't slowed down since. Michael serves as the sixth solo full-length from Mr. Render and first outside of the RTJ banner since their inception, as well as providing some of his most internalised material to date, while enlisting a myriad of guest features from the likes of Young Thug, Andre 3000, 6lack, Future, 2 Chainz and Ty Dolla Sign, to name but a few. Review: Underground hip-hop legend MF Doom passed away in 2020, leaving behind an undeniable legacy as the once-bearer of hip-hop's most-legit shadow crown. He wasn't the the king of anything by popular vote, but he certainly was sovereign over a rare kind of flow quality, especially adored by food lovers. Still few knew of Doom's King Geedorah alias, which served as one of his earliest monikers while part of the underground crew Monsta Island Czars. Geedorah's inspirations from old comic books and giant monster / slasher movies first cropped up on Take Me To Your Leader, a tone which would be set for years to come in later Doom material. The instrumentals are just as jaggedy and experimental, and form the perfect basis for the Ninja Tune reissue we have before us now.

Review: West Coast hip-hop artist King T's Thy Kingdom Come album was his fifth studio recording and it was made around the same time as some of the genre's most iconic ever albums - namely Dr. Dre's 2001 and Eminem's The Slim Shady LP, both of which were multi-platinum record breakers. As such it has plenty of the sonic hallmarks of the era with guest spots from the likes of Dr. Dre, NWA's MC Ren, DJ Quik, Too $hort, Ice-T and even NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal. King Tee is one of the rappers Dr Dre was to work with when he left Death Row Records to form Aftermath Entertainment in 1996. This album never got flawed at the time but finally sees the light of day now.
