Mystic Night (3:29)
Disco Dancing (5:03)
Review: Disco Segreta unveils a mesmerising tale from late 1970s Italian disco that spotlights Sicilian maestro Franco D'Accardi. Leading ASA (Artisti Siciliani Associati), Franco blended genres including disco, folk and rock when, in 1979, he collaborated with American model Adrienne Edwards, releasing 'Mystic Night' and 'Disco Dancing' on a limited 45 RPM record. 'Mystic Night' electrifies with its fusion of drums, congas, and Adrienne's vocals creating a seductive disco masterpiece. Disco Segreta revitalizes these gems, including the B-side's vibrant rendition of Stanley Turrentine's 'Disco Dancing,' preserving their allure for contemporary audiences. These reissues celebrate the twilight of Italy's golden disco era in impeccable remastered form.

Review: Still no one makes electro quite like the OG that is The Egyptian Lover. He helped pioneer the genre back in the day and for proof look no further than 'Franky Girl' from way back in 1986. It still very much sounds future today with its ice-cold drum machine sounds, creepy, mystic bass lines and sci-fi synth leads all topped off with his own inimitable mic work. Extended and album versions are included with the flipside featuring 'We The Freaks'. It's a more crisp and raw cut but one that still makes you want to pop that body on the dance floor.

Blue (Da Ba Dee) (Paris Casino Machine House remix) (7:43)
Review: Blanco Y Negro continues to plunder its vaults to deliver fresh pressings of some of its biggest pop-dance hits. The latest to get this treatment is Eiffel 65's 'Blue (Da Ba Dee)', a 1999 hit for Italian trio Eiffel 65. This blue vinyl edition pairs key late '90s versions of the track with remixes created at various times since. Fittingly, it begins with the familiar Ice Pop Mix from the original 12" -pounding, thickset grooves, that piano riff and those irresistibly catchy vocals - before moving on to the Euro-Trance style '99 'Hanover Mix'. Over on side B, the TJM Bluemax 04 Extension mix is a pounding hard dance smasher, while the Paris Casino Machine House mix blends chunky, French Touch style grooves with squelchy acid lines.

J'attends Les Marines (3:55)
So Many Ways (Cherrystones Electric So Far I edit) (5:20)
So Many Ways (Cherrystones Slow Many Ways rework) (6:36)
Review: This marks a first ever reissue of this cult-status punk-funk, no wave electro post-punk fusion 45 from 1979. It's by post-Wayne County Electric Chairs and has been produced by David Cunningam and now expanded to 12". The first tune 'So Many Ways' has Val Haller on lead vocals and sounded at the time very different from anything else the band had done. A hypnotic, sure charged groove that still sounds years ahead of its time. 'J'attends Les Marines' is a rework of 'Waiting For The Marines' from the Things Your Mother album but with some added dub and experimental flourishes. Two versions of 'So Many Ways' then close out this fine curio.

Big Daddy Kane - "Ain't No Half Steppin" (Phoreyz & Brisk Multramix) (3:39)
Review: The Heat Rock label has been turning out overlooked gems or stone-cold classics from the worlds of funk, soul and hip hop for a while. Here they reissue the first volume of their Altered Tapes series on 300 copies of limited edition red vinyl. It's a real doozy for collectors and DJs alike as it packs a proper punch. First up is an Altered Tapes remix of The Emotions's 'Blind Alley' which is super sweet soul music with a fresh hip hop beat and big horn sections powering along. On the back side, Phoreyz & Brisk offer a Multramix of Big Daddy Kane's cool and catchy 'Ain't No Half Steppin.'

Expand (12:30)
Collapse (7:15)
Review: We're not sure Endless Melancholy is the most appropriate name for Oleksiy Sakevych, an electronic ambient artist based out of the sprawling and musically vibrant Ukrainian capital of Kiev. As this two-tracker goes to show, there's every chance you'll feel elated after pressing play on his studio work.

Following on from releases for labels like Thesis, Sound In Silence, and his own Hidden Vibes, we're given a pair of long form compositions that feel organic in nature, even if the production was synthesised. 'Collapse' seems to switch its mood like a living thing, evolving through crystalline chimes from reflective opening notes, as though starting to realise its own stunning power and majesty. "Expand' is more rooted in drone, albeit a particularly euphoric version - all long refrained bliss, the way things should be.

Musical Healers (Aryeh Yah remix) (8:45)
Review: This new 45rpm single on Humble Action includes the original version of 'Musical Healers' by Hummingbird as well as a remix by Aryeh Yah. The a-side version is a nice twisted dancehall cut with some hot stepping rhythms that sound like they could well have been sampled by The Streets at some time. It's a future sounding cut even now with its sleek synth leads. It's a real trip too at over eight minutes long, and the remix is no less adventurous but has a more heavy low end.

Review: Since its initial release back in 2008, Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto's fourth collaborative album, UTP, has become one of the pair's most celebrated full-length excursions. There's a good reason for that, too. Recorded with the Ensemble Modern string section, it presents an impeccable, atmospheric and otherworldly blend of electronic ambience, high-minded abstract experimentalism, and modern classical that benefits greatly from the presence of variations on multiple tracks - a creative decision that makes it sound like a cyclical, subtly evolving trip through minimalistic, Reichian movements. Astonishingly, this is the first time the album has ever been available on vinyl, so we'd expect copies to fly out. Pre-order now to avoid disappointment.

Review: This recording of the Philadelphia Orchestra performing Sergei Prokofiev's 1936 story and orchestral score Peter and the Wolf was recorded in 1977 and was originally released in 1978. The role of the narrator on the recording was initially offered to both Peter Ustinov and Alec Guinness who both turned it down, before David Bowie agreed to take on the role, supposedly as a Christmas present to his son. On the B-side is another equally as charming piece of recent classical history, Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra as narrated by Hugh Downs.

Review: Courtial With Errol Knowles's Don't You Think It's Time album gets a first ever vinyl reissue here, and gets deluxe treatment. The original was recorded in 1976 in San Francisco's Bay Area and soon became a real collector's classic for its vital soul and jazz funk sounds. To be honest, the cover art alone is worth the entry price here, but the sounds sure are sublime, with wiggy synth lines weaving their way in and out of the funky drumming on 'Don't You Think It's Time,' 'Best Of Friends' offering lush string sounds and silky grooves and 'Love Nevermore' having a bit of a samba shuffle next to the acoustic guitars and golden Rhodes chords.

Review: Written and programmed over a productive fourteen year period, ranging from 1996 to 2010, the 17th sonic tale on Childhood Intelligence emerges from the German Electro artist, E-Control. The debut album from the artist, D.N.E. is inspired by a long held passion for 80s electro, early bleep, techno and house. Transforming powerful rhythms into a mysticism for the future, the release also features guest appearances from Audiofusion, Tinky Kerruish and Silent Community. A riveting journey and a triumph of a debut.

It is a world sound with Moogs, bass guitars, grand pianos, Fender Rhodes, clarinets, saxophones and vocals all colliding tradition with new school thinking. Hip-hop elements, improvisation and spiritual jazz and Hindustani ragas all feature in this most cultural and musical melting pots.

Review: Steve Earle's Jerry Jeff is truly poignant album. The third in a series of tributes to what the main man describes as "first-hand teachers, the heroes I was lucky enough to sit across the room from so I could listen and learn up close," in this case he's talking about Jerry Jeff Walker.

So this is a record about paying homage to those that inspired and influenced, while also presenting another fine example of why Earle himself is considered one of the contemporary greats, no doubt inspiring and influencing the next generation of folk and Americana troubadours. And by that we mean one of the finest vocalists to ever grace those canons, and a master instrumentalist to boot, capable of delivering tracks at once powerful and thick with atmosphere, yet also delicate and vulnerable. Utterly captivating, you might say.

Review: Following up on the impressive stature of her fifth studio album Phoenix: Flames Are Dew Upon My Skin, Eartheater went back in on the attendant material and created a special 'Sleep Mix' version for Crack Magazine. In the wake of that mix and its warm reception, the newly altered versions of the album were expanded upon and presented as an entirely new work, La Petite Mort Edition. The original constituent parts of the music have been blown out into shapeless forms which rise and fall across great sonic expanses. The production is vast and imposing, but ultimately oceanic in nature, without a pockmark or rupture to disturb the vast swathes of sound sculpted for your deepest dreams.

Ochre Sky is a real highlight off the records back half, the mellow timbre and interspersed organic percussion (including a sample of a sink splashing) evokes a slow paced walk through a luscious garden. The material quality of Ghost Poems is what makes it so special, with each of the 10 tracks constituting a different biome to an expansive diorama. From the warm sunbeams of 'Fossil Painting', to the underground lakes of 'Felt Absence' each track has something refreshing to offer.

Review: In 1971, in the midst of America's conflict in Vietnam, the US army held a 'battle of the bands' contest and showcased the two winning bands in a promotional album. East Of Underground, the gritty runner-up, managed to capture the spirit of America with their sweet-soul covers of Sly Stone, Curtis Mayfield and Funkadelic. The quality of the recording is superior, as is the musicianship: the falsetto harmonies, the gritty guitar, and the devouring drums...

Review: The first and still cult classic jazz album Eastern Rebellion from the eponymous band was released in 1976. The collective didn't waste any time in getting back in the studio to record a follow up and so came their magnificent Eastern Rebellion 2 just 12 months later. It is a frantic and classic set of free-form jazz from the group that consists of Cedar Walton on piano, Bob Berg on tenor-sax, Sam Jones on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. The four pieces that make up this album were all penned by Walton and cover plenty of ground from hard bop to straight jazz.

The album was headed up by 'Nothing Lasts Forever', which lodged in the UK's musical psyche as the Britpop wave receded and everyone was craving a little more maturity in their indie bands. 25 years on, the album ranks as of the band's finest, as vital to their story as the classic 80s records, and it's a welcome treat to see it pressed up once again, on fetching white vinyl with a yolky centre, no less.

It was the fourth of the band's albums and was related back in 1984. The album got the band back to the top of their game after the rather less than warm reception to previous album Porcupine the year before thanks to its new found romantic sweetness and the band's bittersweet melodies.

Review: Liverpool's legendary Echo & The Bunnymen add to their 30-plus years of service to music with a new album, of sorts, that in fact delivers two new compositions and 13 other songs plucked from their vast and expansive catalog. Long-time fans will no doubt be pleased to hear the new beatless tinges given to their 1984 classic "Seven Seas", while of course the album is a perfect diving point for new audience to come to grips with the band too. Take, for example, the gnarlyish drawl of "Nothing Lasts Forever" that helps offset the Bowie-like tendencies heard in numbers like "Lips like Sugar" and "The Somnambulist". Sounds like a cliche, but seriously, still as good as it ever was.

There is a superb Moog-based cover of De La Soul's 'I Am I Be', Afro-Carribean disco in 'Dancehall of Grandeur' and epic jazz-rock on Volcano Sound' so dig in and prepare to be wowed.

Review: You could definitely be forgiven for thinking Elusive Mojo was a much older piece of work, which isn't to say it sounds dated or out of place today; more highlighting the timelessness of high octane heavy metal, its fall out of the limelight but persistence to continue doing what it does very well indeed. Forget the washed up old guard refusing to put a pin in ideas that have repeated themselves for decades, Ecstatic Vision represent the vanguard of a sound we hold dear to our hearts, but don't encounter at its freshest often enough.

Taking a lead from the psychedelic-leaning early metal outfits like Hawkwind and Aphrodite's Child, simply put Ecstatic Vision growl and wail in all the right places, unleashing track after track of juggernaut energy, insane riffs and solos, and industrial power. Steaming ahead of the rest, this latest offering is the kind of record that threatens not just to blow through your hair like a mighty wind, but rip each strand off at the follicle.

Review: Edan's Beauty and The Beat is a classic of the genre from back in 2005. It's a fusion of rap and hip hip styles that are all rooted in the classic era of the 90s but with some contemporary production flourishes. Edan's psych-influenced beats and wide array of well chosen samples are draw from all manner of genres and are carefully worked into funky beats that range of raw and hard hitting to more laid back and sun kissed. A range of guest MCs such as Percee-P, Dagha, Insight, Mr Lif and more all help add their own colour .

Review: He might not be quite as well known but top producer and trackmaker edbl should be considered to be right up there with the likes of Tom Misch. He has his own distinctive style and it's packed with soul and emotion. Now he finally makes his debut in Japan with this new album on P-VINE which collects together two 12" EPs from him and friends. Steeped in rap jazz knowledge, it's all lounge grooves with naive melodies and gentle piano keys, dusty and deep beats, heady highs and romantic lows.

Review: Ahbe, Nature Boy, Eden Ahbez, whatever you want to call him... the OG hippie is back. Now, Light In The Attic deliver on the proto-psychedelic's only ever album, repackaging it in all its glory for a deluxe box set edition. Containing the original album, as well as a 24-page booklet, collectors are touting it as the defining reissue for 60s music freaks. An original 1960s mono pressing will fetch upwards of L400, and for good reason: Ahbez' original compositions for piano, xylophone, flute and spoken word, from 'Myna Bird' through to 'Full Moon', completely transcend his jazz standard associations for a more pioneering, visionary ambient breakthrough into a new genre, which later came to be known as 'exotica'.

This new live album is another fine showing that invites you to explore and tease apart the band's DNA as they work through the centre piece of that album, 'Veil' as well as two tracks from previous albums. It's raw, expressive and immersive rock.

Review: Following last year's Cheetah Bend album, Detroit maverick Jimmy Edgar returns with another beguiling conceptual LP. This time we find the prolific experimenter taking influence from liquid matter and the physicality of digital art as he explores the fertile hinterland between hip-hop, techno and contemporary funk. From neo-R&B swoonery to uncompromised club-tearing grit via industrial strength beat abstraction - featuring collabs with the likes of Trinidad James, 10kCaash, Milk and ZelooperZ - this is one of Jimmy's most far out and explorative bodies of work so far. Stay hydrated.

Review: Much loved UK outfit Editors have that tag because they always manage to confound expectation and stay one step ahead. They first emerged more than 20 years ago now as a group of friends who formed a band at university. Their debut album was Mercury Prize-shortlisted and since then thy have always been bold and brave in their approach. EBM is their first album since Blanck Mass became a full time member and, as the title suggests, is heavily influenced by EBM with physical and angular grooves, soot black moods and real urgency.

Original Mr Cool Ruler has never been reissued on vinyl before and is a classic from 1983 that was recorded by Scientist and produced by Bunny Lee - two serious heavyweights of the scene. Musicians featured on the album include some of Jamaica's best - Sly & Robbie, Jackie Mittoo, Winston Wright and Earl Chinna Smith. As well as his solo work, Edwards - who had chart-topping singles in Jamaica in the 60s - also worked with The Aggravators and recorded duets with Millie Small.

It's a delightful work of lovers' rock and roots magic that is centered around his impossibly pure and soulful vocals. They convey all manner of emotions from pain to joy over clean dubs and acoustic guitars. The hooks are catchy and their rhythms percussive, with joyous like 'Don't Stop' and more rueful vibes such as 'You're Eyes Are Dreaming' all sounding as good as ever.

Review: Todd Edwards is affectionally known as Todd the God because of his skills. Those skills are two fold - he famous fomented this own style of garage with quick beats and cut up vocals used like an extra instrument in the mix. But he is also a badass DJ who can slam through house and garage with high energy and plenty of charger. As such, he is rightly celebrated here with an overdue entry into Defected's long running House Masters series. All his most famous joints make the cut, from the bumping remix of St Germain to the lively vocal soul of his dub of Kim English via originals like his jazzy, chord laced anthem 'Push The Love.'

Review: Le Onde is an album from 1996 that marked the solo debut for piano virtuoso Ludovico Einaudi. Upon its original release, the album came with a quote from the artist that said if it was a story "it would be set on the seafront of a long beach. A beach without beginning and without end. The story of a man who walks along this shore and perhaps never meets anyone." What that means is that it's a meditative work that sends you into deep contemplation as you're lost in his soaring melodies and moving chords. This reissue is presented by Decca on limited gatefold grey marbled vinyl across four sides.

Last time out they served up an album inspired by an imaginary film, and this time on Yeti Season they impress with a whole new bunch of inspirations. Right from the off the album takes us to Turkish-styled funk and an almost Mumbai-esque take on soul, all with the sort of big grooves and lovely horns that often define the band's output. Full of drama, emotion, and worldly influences, this is another stunner from the unstoppable El Michaels Affair.

Review: Ammar El Sherei's intoxicating instrumental album Oriental Music was written in 1976 and has remained a cult classic for all the deep diggers, world music lovers and curio obsessives. For this record, the iconic Egyptian artist, composer and producer actually served up his own take on six classic compositions by another Egyptian legend, Mohamed Abdel Wahab. The results are utterly hypnotic and majestic melodic affairs with organic drums and percussion and North African melodies that worm their way deep into your brain and transport you to the hustle and bustle of a dusty open air market or street side coffee spot.

Review: If Electribal Soul sounds deliciously vintage, there's a good reason for that. An exemplary exploration of glassy-eyed synth-pop and electro, deep house and street soul marked out by tactile electronic motifs, warm basslines and Billie Ray Martin's superb vocals, the album was mostly recorded in 1991 and '92 at a time when relationships in the group were beginning to fray. Now tidied up and released by Martin three decades after it was shelved, Electribal Soul has the feel of a genuine lost classic - a set that would have received rave reviews at the time had it appeared in late 1992 as originally intended. A genuine triumph that's as loved-up and saucer-eyed as a sweaty hug at sunrise on an Ibizan beach.

Review: The 1993 debut full-length from "Satanic industrial metal" envelope pushers, The Electric Hellfire Club, was a perfect storm of sex, drugs, and serial killer infatuation dressed up in gothic, metallic, near techno mayhem. Following mastermind Thomas Thorn's departure from My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, 'Burn, Baby, Burn!', would serve as the birth of edgy ideals, delivered with sonic abandon and tongue located firmly in cheek, while samples of low budget horror movies as well as invoking Satanic church founder Anton LaVey, served as the hysteric cherry on top of the dodgy sundae, designed to provoke and bemuse in equal measure. LaVey would later go on to ordain Thorn as a priest of the Satanic church, but that's a story for another time.

Plenty of stellar musicians appear throughout including Axel Tosca on Fender Rhodes, Luisito Quintero & Roberto Vilera on percussion and Gene Perez on bass on the grand opener 'Feelin Liek Rio.' Review: Spring is certainly in the air on the third outing from Elephant Gym. The Taiwanese (Kaohsing) rock band have set out to delve pretty deep into our minds, projecting sounds that bore holes and become earworms, bringing about a state that's almost hypnotic. The impressive thing is, that's done with a collection of 12 tracks that pack so much personality and - at times - energy, they couldn't possibly have this effect.
As an album, this sounds like prog rock balladry ('Dream Of You'), good time jazz ('Dear Humans'), spellbinding piano solos ('Dreams', 'Wings'), experimental funk ('Witches'), and numerous raw, dense, psychedelic odysseys that can be challenging to unbox and absorb, but, once immersed, the full experience is mind-bogglingly rich and rewarding, with a multitude of genres happening, interpreted by one star attraction.

Review: It's hard to keep up with superhero movie franchises, at least in terms of timeline, but those who have seen the 2002 Spider-Man, which arrived early on in the comic book-screen explosion, will attest to the fact it's a great blockbuster deserving of the attention it received at the time. And box office results. No big screen bonanza is ever complete without an accompanying score, of course, and Elfman's offering more than sets to mood.

Known for his regular work with the likes of Tim Burton, Sam Raimi, and Gus Van Sant, the US muso - who, incidentally, earned his stripes as part of the 1980s new wavers Oingo Boingo - marries relatively traditional bombast orchestral arrangements with slightly leftfield compositions, drawing electronic elements into the mix while never forgetting the power of a huge string crescendo.

As well as Ellington on piano and Hawkins on saxophone, you get the sheer joy of Ray Nance on violin, Aaron Bell on bass and Sam Woodyard on drums. That's not the whole line-up either, but fundamentally this is about Ellington's compositions, which get played out with a silken touch. Pieces like 'The Ricitic' feel as light as a feather, proving how subtlety and delicacy are just as much a testament to skill as any performance fireworks.

The genre innovator has the smoothest of smooth voices and shows that again on Sings Rock & Soul, which is actually heavy on the soul and light on the rock. This limited edition reissue on Studio 1 sounds superb and all of the 12 tracks are gorgeous things with unhurried reggae rhythms and his soaring vocals backed by sympathetic guitar riffs and neat chords.

Review: During the various pandemic lockdowns of 2020, BBC Radio Wales suggested to multi-instrumentalist Carwyn Ellis that he joined forces with their National Orchestra of Wales and Brazilian band Rio 18 for a one-off, audience-free concert. In the end, Rio 18 were not permitted to travel, so instead their contributions were recorded remotely and assembled by Ellis and his producer Shawn Lee, to which the orchestrated parts were then added live. Despite this complex recording process, the results are stunning: sublime songs, sung in Welsh, with an attractive mixture of Brazilian rhythms and instrumentation, soaring orchestration and attractive melodies aplenty.
