Review: This is the first album in seven years from seminal electronic music project Leftfield (now led solely by co-founding member Neil Barnes), and contains some of their purest and most innovative output to date. While not available to the public just yet, 'Pulse' is the lead track, and carries with it an updated sound that seems to draw on the deep-euphoric influence of Bicep or DJ Seinfeld. It contains guest contributions from Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten and author Lemn Sissay, and charts a sparky creative spate despite a difficult period for the Barnes.

Review: For a long time, Leftfield were cast in the historic lens of that classic 90s phenomenon, the chart-baiting dance 'band'. With Leftism and Rhythm + Stealth they caught a wave and became a household name, creating a blend of expansive dance music that sat outside the specific thrust of any scene, and then they went on a protracted hiatus. Neil Barnes brought the group back in 2010 and went on tour, recorded a new album and generally pushed Leftfield back into the limelight. Now they're back with a follow-up after another seven year pause, and sounding stronger than ever. This Is What We Do is full of the stature you expect, with lead-heavy beats and snarling bass underpinning a treasure trove of hooks. Review: In the wake of their acclaimed return with This Is What We Do last year, Leftfield take a loop back around for a great tradition of dance music LPs - the dub remix album. Leftfield's sound has always displayed an affinity for Jamaican music culture, and so it makes perfect sense to hear their latest works run through the echo chamber to make for a wholly different, and reliably excellent listen. From blissful ambience to heavyweight, head-nodding soundsystem rhythms, this is a worthy record in its own right. When paired with the more upfront OG version it's a strong reminder of how potent a force Leftfield remain within the album-oriented dance music sphere.

Lorde didn't just feature, her animated stint saw one of the show's longest-running characters, Randy Marsh, admit that he was in fact the New Zealand pop sensation. If that's not recognition of global recognition, we don't know what is.

Namely the fact that she's done with mainstream chart sounds and looking for something deeper, more personal and stylistically experimental. Enter Solar Power, the difficult third which she manages to make her most original and touching with apparent effortless ease. Of course there's still a lot of melody and accessibility involved here - 'Mood Ring' and 'Secrets From A Girl (Who's Seen It All)' are particularly number-one-friendly. But the surreal and dreamy 'Big Star', 'Leader Of A New Regime' - which almost feels like a quiet Queen number - and crystalline layered vocals on 'Fallen Fruit' tell a new story.
