As ever, the Canadian label deals a strong line in globally-informed dance music with cheekiness in its bones and an inherent spirituality, faithfully upheld by their assembled disciples. Across the eight tracks there are many highlights, but a few for us include Jamie Paton's sinewy 90s dub house workout 'Sub Ritual' and Kunturi's rhythmically-elevated ritualistic acid joint, 'Eclosion'. Musicians that have had an international and timeless appeal, influencing modern charting acts to this day like Dua Lipa and even influencing manga artists like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure author Hirohiko Araki, who named characters after bands like R.E.M and AC/DC. There's not much that can be said here that the thousands of litres of ink spilt on icons like Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner - every name here has transcended the traditional pop cycle into household names, almost half a century later. This is a must-grab for the 80s collector, the nostalgic and the uninitiated alike. To call these tracks peak artistry is to put it lightly.

Review: French filmmaker and actor Jacques Tati is a legend in the world of cinema who gets celebrated here with Born Bad presenting the soundtracks to six of his movies. Tati was keely attuned to sonic entertainment, as most of his film are amost entirely dialogue free, and so music, along with sound effects, plays a massive part, from wistful, evocative trad jazz to its headier, rowdier modern successor. Those included in this bumper set are Jour de Fete, Vacances de Monsieur Hulot - once listed by none other than Bjork as her favourite film - Mon Oncle, Playtime, Traffic and Parade. it comes as a lovely double-LP with printed innersleeve and download code and extensive sleeve notes from Macha Makaieiff. The sounds are as amazing too listen to as the movies are to watch with jazz, swing and plenty in between all featuring in unique soundscapes packed with life.
