Review: Under the A Vision of Panorama alias, Mikhail Khavsko has released some of the most beguiling nu-Balearic music of the past few years. Aquafusion is his long-awaited debut album, and is sure to further enhance his already high reputation. Drawing on sun kissed synthesizer grooves, languid nu-disco and hazy pop for inspiration, the album boasts all manner of ear-pleasing highlights. These include the new age inspired ambient slinkiness of "Open Sequences", the Gigi Masin style bliss of "Seagulls", the mid-'80s synth-pop-goes-dancing bounce of "Barbados", and the baked, horizontal pop of "Duality" (which notably features the drowsy vocals of Krista Michaela).

Review: Thankfully, Richard D. James has decided to finally release at least some of the output that he's been banging on about since mid-2000s. In a number of interviews, the might Aphex Twin hinted that he has vast artilleries of tracks stacked up and unreleased, probably more on purpose than out of laziness...or maybe not. What we do know is that AFX is reborn after the string of acid 12"s released about 10 years ago on Rephlex, that saw the alias become one of the most popular of James' alter egos. Orphaned Deejay Selek is a collection of tunes that contain all of the Twin's magic and unpredictably, but that also cut straight to the point and head to the middle of the dance floor. This is banging brain dynamite coated in the man's iconic style and flair. Welcome back AFX, and many hats off to Warp for making it happen.

Review: More big guns for the main room (at peak time!) courtesy of tried and tested experts Drumcode - and they sure aren't messing around on part four of the sixth instalment of their A sides series. Tuscany's Luca Agnelli serves up the pummelling and furious DJ tool "Hypericum" while India's finest techno export Arjun Vagale continues to make waves with his dynamic sound and "Liquid" is no exception, as it electrifies your senses with rapid fire rhythms and mental synth sequences. On the flip, London's Vinicius Honorio serves up the tunneling and hypnotic journey that is "Diamond Dust" which has the potential to appeal to a wide cross section of techno DJs and their respective styles - loved the mesmerising Jeff Mills style chime melody on this one. Finally, two of the label's staples team up for what you could only expect as massive: Neapolitans Luigi Madonna & Roberto Capuano with the slinky late night tech house of "Limitless".

Dexterous, versatile, and powerful, the only thing "mini" about this Ableton controller is the size. APC mini is the most portable all-in-one Ableton controller solution with Akai Pro build quality. Engineered specifically for the mobile musician and the desktop producer, APC mini concentrates the essential features of the APC40 mkII, Akai Pro's flagship Ableton controller, into a compact design that fits in your backpack. The result is a dynamic instrument that empowers you to make music with Ableton Live - anywhere.

APC mini features an expanded 8x8 multicolor clip-launching grid that's built for hands-on exploration: launch clips and create or perform your song from the ground up using 64 responsive triggers. Tri-color lighting provides visual feedback and displays three clip statuses - loaded, playing, and recording - so you can intelligently perform without looking at your computer. Plus, you can use the Shift button and directional arrows to manipulate the scope of the 8x8 grid.

Nine channel faders allow you to mix with an all-new reinforced fader design. Users can change channel-fader functionality with the dedicated buttons for volume, pan, sends, and device control: fade clips in and out of the mix; pan instruments to the left, right, or center; raise the level of reverb or other effects to create fluid transitions; open and close filters for lush sweeps; and much more. Additionally, each fader is completely assignable for flexible mixing and mapping options.

APC mini comes pre-mapped to Live for an instant performance and production setup. When APC mini is plugged into your computer, its hardware controls correspond 1 to 1 with Ableton Live's interface - no additional configuring is required. For APC veterans, all of APC mini's controls can be re-assigned on the fly for customized setups that change with your performance or production style. Whether you are an electronic music artist and Live is your canvas, a DJ using Live for performance and real-time mixing, or a more traditional musician using Live on stage or in the studio, you will find the APC mini to be the intuitive, powerful instrument that directly links your inspiration with Ableton Live.

For maximum portability, APC mini is powered over USB and supports plug-and-play connectivity. APC mini also offers a smaller footprint than its APC counterparts, enabling musicians to use APC mini alongside effects controllers and other devices. Users can even run multiple APC minis in parallel for more versatility.

  3. JANC1

Review: Utrecht's Julian Alexander made his first appearance on hometown label SlapFunk late last year, joining forces with old friend Samuel Deep on the excellent Get Slapped EP. This time he's hit out on his own, in the process serving up a trio of bumpin', bass-heavy deep house tracks. There's a real "heads down in the basement at 4am" feel to opener "JANC6", which is dominated by an undulating, bass-heavy rhythm track, and is accompanied by a looser, breezier Ferro remix. "JANC1" has a bit more bump and swing - think Derrick Carter, minus the breathless energy, and with more deep techno influences - while "Janc 4" successfully looks to vintage speed garage for inspiration.

Review: Fiercely righteous, intensely passionate and politically driven, the Atlanta-birthed Algiers are carving out a unique niche for themselves with a brand of gospel-punk that is as experimental as it in incandescent. Noiserock shapes, electro grooves share space with startlingly rich and powerful vocals from Franklin James Fisher. Emotionally charged ditties like 'Blood' and 'Black Eunuch are as influenced by Nina Simone as industrial hip-hop troupe dalek, and the resulting record makes Algiers a powerful argument against anyone who claims that modern music is apolitical and the art of the protest song is dead.

Eurorack recreation of classic sampler filter with added resonance & voltage control
Notes: 'MUM M8' is an 8hp Eurorack low pass filter building on the filter design used in the classic Akai S950 12 bit sampler with the addition of resonance, voltage control, clipped saturation and a dedicated VCA.

The low pass filter gives the recognisable super smooth vacuum like tone sucking sound which works magic on complex sources. The addition of clipped overdrive and intentionally aggressive self-oscillating resonance compliment the smooth filter core by juxtaposing it into more wasp like territory with acidic squeals and a more gritty sound.
Mum M8 features dual voltage control with attenuation (and inversion) of filter cut off and voltage control of resonance together with dual audio inputs - one of which includes a VCA to with the capability to aid overdriving signals into the filter core.

The filter core is a 6th Order Butterworth switched capacitor type design featuring an analog core but controlled by a high speed digital clock. This produces the characteristic smooth sounding filter but, as with the original S950, has a relatively high minimum cut off as to avoid 'clock bleed' into the filter output from the digital control. This minimum cut of point (and introduction of bleed if required) can be controlled via trimmers on the rear of the module (see calibration chapter). It is not unusual for there still to be some low-level artefacts from the clock present, particularly during filter sweeps - these add to the filters character.

The motivation for the module came from discussing filters in classic samplers with the artist Jack Adams - aka Mumdance. Jack suggested investigating the S950's filter well known as for it use in classic use in early jungle and hardcore. From that point onward Jack provided inspiration, help and feedback in the development of the filter. Big up Mumdance.

Review: Given that Ricardo Villalobos was one of a handful of guest producers who featured on Oren Ambarchi's recent Hubris album - a krautrock-influenced minimalist techno exploration that also boasted contributions from Jim O'Rourke and Mark Fell, amongst others - it seems fitting that he's been roped in to provide two new remixes. The Chilean's contribution to the album was largely rhythm-based, and his two lengthy Variations - each stretched across one side of wax - promote undulating, heads-down dancefloor hypnotism above all else. Naturally, his drum programming and use of subtle stylistic shifts is as on-point as ever, with Ambarchi's original textures being manipulated into mind-altering new shapes.

Review: Last spotted burning hearts as Amberflame on Claremont 56, Theomatic boss Andrei Zakharov dusts off his AN-2 controls for three blissful, starlit downbeat instrumentals. "Sigint" slithers and writhes with salubrious, warm soapy levels of liquid funk while "Mint" is a slow-motion jog through a field at sunrise, living up to every fresh and lush connotation its title suggests. "Dusky Downtown" adds a little warped mysticism as the bassline seems to fall over the sludgy breaks and the synths melt in the spaces between. To top it all off, Andrei also throws in a chunkier, slightly more upbeat Amberflame remix, too. Safe travels.

Review: The Analogue Copes, made up of the part machine-part man duo that is Lucretio and Marieu, have now solidly established themselves at the base of contemporary house and techno. Moreover, the pair have, and always have had, an instantly recognizable sound; their hardware approach and funky yet driving grooves are always a pleasure on both the Juno HQ speakers and the ol' Funktion One's. For their latest outing on the UK's Hypercolour imprint, they've chosen to deliver two tracks each: Lucretio comes through with the disco-filtered stabs of "Vampire Killer", and the 80's electro number "Shinobi World", while Marieu goes deeper and housier on "Corona", but leaves the funky servings for last on the excellent sample-fueled "McGraw". Quality, as per usual, from the Coppers.

Review: Argy takes on the challenge to compose this year's summer soundtrack. From South America, to Africa and Persia, the young artist presents us his global music influences through a modern-electronic sound. On the A-side, "La Pasion", clearly presents the artist's passion for house music. Argy achieved to produce a modern but old skool sounding Latin track, which is definitely going to create a unique atmosphere and set dance floors on fire. "Third Night In Lebanon" takes us on a mental trip of oriental overtones. A reduced percussive piece with an intelligent arrangement of organic sounds consists one of Argy's most interesting works to date. The final track treats us to a sweeter, mood changing experience. "The Waves" is structured around a steady groove of airy and wet percussion layered with intriguing, spacey effects. Once again the young Greek combines innovative production with a raw sound full of passion and soul. Something he simplifies as nothing more than "Honest music from the heart".

He's at it again on "Onda Nova", his first album for four years. This time round, he's added a little blue-eyed soul, AOR and West Coast jazz-rock flavour into the mix alongside his usual breezy blend of ear-catching Brazilian style (check, for example, the Michael McDonald-ish vibes of English language cut "What I'd Do For Love" and the guitar solo-laden smoothness of "Heaven's In Your Arms"). The Alpha LP featured about a dozen woozy and disorienting dancefloor destroyers and two selections are present here getting the remix treatment by two fellow innovators. The legendary Matthew Herbert remixes "Gut Man Cometh", scaling back the high-octane psychedelia of the original into a driving journey track with interestingly spiced up vocal samples. L Event, a four-track EP with artwork from long-time collaborators The Designers Republic, continues this trend. Despite the sci-fi electronics, there's something almost tear-jerking about the melancholic melodies of "Newbound", while "Tac Lacora" sounds like an invitation to dance (though, inevitably, only jazz dancers on speed need try it). That's certainly what you get here, as the Afro-cosmic pioneer once again joins forces with regular studio partner Marco Dionigi. Of course, there are nod to the chugging, arpeggio-heavy world of Italo-disco - see the Balearic disco dreaminess of "Irradia" and cosmic funk-rock shuffle of "Slightly Mad" - but even these mind-altering journeys come blessed with crackling funk guitars and tasty Clavinet sounds. Our picks are opener "Rusty", a bassline-driven, funk-fuelled Idjut Boys style dub disco number, and the pleasingly percussive, flash-fried funk of "Start The Engine".

  4. Juliet Fox - "Wanted Me" (6:57)
Review: Over two decades into its lifespan, Adam Beyer's Drumcode imprint keeps evolving and excelling, pushing techno forward while remaining wholly respectful of its roots. On Part 3 of A Sides Vol 7, Beyer brings in the scene's top guns to expertly execute some main room peak-time action. On the first side, it's an undeniably Dutch affair with Amsterdam hero Bart Skils stepping up to deliver the deeply hypnotic tunnel vision of "West Of The Moon", while veterans Secret Cinema & Reinier Zonneveld deliver the darkly druggy dancefloor drama of "Pain Thing". On the flip, Pig & Dan should need no introduction and are in fine form as always on the adrenalised "Pushing On" while ascendant Aussie Juliet Fox similarly impresses on "Wanted Me".

Review: Berlin based Polish duo Catz 'n Dogz have seen their Pets Recordings imprint rise steadily in popularity in only a few years. For the next release they've drafted in Dutch duo Beesumt Soundsystem to deliver more sure-fire tech house. First up is "Searchin'", a production characterised by a killer resonating bassline grooving along with a tight rhythm, but just wait until those dark strings come in for the breakdown! On the flip we have "Ominous" which takes things deeper with its crusty beat beneath a razor sharp arpeggio which evolves beautifully, building to a crescendo. Finally the Borrowed Identity remix of "Searchin'" keeps it deep with this lush and dreamy remix with its soaring pads, funky bassline and the just the right amount of shuffle in its rhythm.

The Drumcode boss knew he could call upon his label stalwarts for EP packed full of main room power tools with the peak time in mind. The adrenalised, forceful stomp and grind of the title track gets things off to a good start, while the druggy and head rush inducing muscle of "In Love" is bound for some real hands in the air moments. Review: Ahead of the second Bombay Disco compendium, Cultures Of Soul tease us with two show-stopping Brother Cleve edits. As with the inaugural album, this collection celebrates the subcontinent's more obscure cinematic soundtracks and what's known in India as the item number, the cabaret style dances performed in Asian cinemas. "Jab Chaye" remains in its original incarnation with mild touches on rhythm and arrangement while "Dance Music" has been given a complete flip-around with chunky jacking beats that complement the frenetic tabla drums consummately. Album teasers don't get much more exciting than this.

On the Noah's Day LP, Binh shows us that he's one of the best at merging classic electro sensibilities with minimal house; a current trend that's sweeping the Berlin underground at present. Fast tempo rhythm patterns reminiscent of early Detroit and UK techno come into the fold, as well as obvious nods to the classic reductionist sounds of DBX and Pantytec. This guy's one of the most exciting producers of the moment and this could well be one of the year's best releases.

  1. Birdsmakingmachine - "F For Falsas"
  2. Deadbeat - "I don't need nothing if I got You"
  3. Louis Mc Guire - "Buffeting Tuft"
Review: From the label: When trends in music can come and go in the blink of an eye, ten years is a long time to stay relevant, passionate and real on the frontline. From its roots in the Parisian club scene by way of its spiritual home at Fuse in Brussels and so on to the globe-trotting, multi-faceted entity that it is today, Lessizmore is living proof of how to do a decade right. The fundamental heartbeat of this European house and techno institution is the maverick music that its affiliated artists make. Of course what the label sounds like now is not necessarily what the label sounded like back in 2006, but it's telling that some of the original characters are still with the label to this day, while many are long time members of the LIZM family that have joined the ranks over the years. In piecing together this compilation, the idea from label founders Jessica Bossuyt and Pierre Noisiez was simply to represent where their brainchild is at right now, from guests at their events in the early days to more recent collaborators of all kinds. Kicking off the first EP, the finest slithers of percussion and whispers of icy soul weave their way into the sublime, sprawling concoction that Birdsmakingmachine delivers, shifting drum sounds across eleven minutes of delicate yet irresistible groove. Meanwhile on the B-side long time champion of future-minded dub techno Deadbeat creates something of an anthem for the label, turning out an energised workout laden with psychedelic swirls of delay and embellished with a catchy vocoder hook. Recent Lessizmore signing Louis McGuire delves into his lowslung MPC-powered bag of tricks and drops another crucial slab of swinging funk that finds the up and coming artist turning to a moodier sound palette customized for the deepest corners of the night.

  4. Tortuga (Valet remix)
Review: Following the critical success of last years mini-LP The Last Tortuga, Black Deer is back on Emotional Response with a 4 track remix EP featuring friends and alumni Nacho Patrol, Luke Wyatt, Sad City and Valet. William Burnett returns to the label in the form of a remixes EP that takes his original productions and hands it to a broad selection of today's finest electronic producers, plus a rare outing from one of the label's favourite pyschedelic experimentalists. While Danny Wolfer's Legowelt project needs little introduction, it was only right that his inclusion on the label came from a more cosmic outlook. With must have EPs and a long player offered, his afro-infused Nacho Patrol moniker is a must check. In Circle Dance the original is taken by the hand down to an afro-tech-funk'n'breaks basement for one of his best remixes to date and rightly so for one of his old buds. Luke Wyatt follows with an uplifting and warped retake on Meditation. The kraut influence of the original is built on with fuzz guitar and a solo that builds across the track to a higher peak. Play this at sunrise for reaffirmation of life itself. Next is a big favourite of the label, catching the ear from his first release on Underwater Peoples
and a lush follow up for Phonica. His pure ambience of a remix strips everything back and lets the 4th World shine. With a 2nd EP due on Phonica, look out for something on this label soon. Finally, one of the main influences on the label when it started a few years back. Valet aka Portland multi-instrumentalist and mum, Honey Owens offers a deep, beautiful and haunting retake, adding whispers, drones, guitar, toms, keys and intonations to swallow you whole.

Review: With releases on a who's who list of labels that are pushing experimental, underground house and techno including L.I.E.S, Creme Organisation, Echovolt and Strange Life, William Burnett has been steadily putting out releases that have gained a lot of respect without having to shout too loud about it. So much so that as well as running his own stella WT Records label, William is now often cited as a producer's producer. Deep and full of dub aesthetics that encompasses a world of it's own, his music is not just driven by a need to keep the floor moving, but are also about taking your headspace somewhere else. Progressing things a stage further is the Black Deer project. Recently launched, but in gestation for some time, it's introspective slant, plus loose referencing to his upbringing in Texas, allows William more freedom for experimentation. The Last Tortuga is taken from the same sessions that yielded the Willie Burns The Overlord EP on Trilogy Tapes as well as Black Deer's Trail Of Tears EP on Rush Hour, this 6 track EP has been due on the label for sometime, but it's been worth the wait as his sound has developed and expanded to take in ambient, drone and krautrock and highlights his musicianship in a new light.

For the first installment, he first turns to long-established label artist (and occasional Norwegian passport office pencil-pusher) Daniel 'Blackbelt' Andersen. His "Dolphin Sandwich" is a deliciously tasty affair, with bold but breezy synthesizer riffs, huggable grooves and yearning, sun-kissed chords. In contrast, newcomer Christian Engh offers up something darker, chunkier and more bass-heavy, drawing influence from both Dutch revivalist Italo and the analogue-rich Norwegian disco with which Lindstrom made his name.

8-channel mini patchbay
Notes: Is your pedalboard brain-dead? The Patchulator 8000 pedalboard patchbay provides a tangle-free way to change the order of your effects to create new tones using little to no brainpower! With the provided mini cables, just patch signal from your guitar or bass into (and out of) each effect, then back out to your amp or mixer. Invent new and interesting sounds while your synapses are firing, simply by rearranging the sequence of effects! All your gear and cabling stays put. Oh, and any effect not patched is "truly" bypassed... Genius!

In the world of electronic music, the Patchulator 8000 desktop patchbay becomes a powerful nerve centre for your instruments, allowing you to share and swap effects all around your setup, without needing to solve a brainteaser. Just connect your keyboards, synthesizers, samplers, drum machines (or any sound source) to a few channels, then fill the other channels with your effects' ins and outs. Using the mini patch cables, you can then route any of the effects into and out of the signal path of any instrument, just like a real patch bay! Hmmm... what will you mastermind?

In the world of modular synthesizers, the Patchulator 8000 is the brainstem between your modules and outboard gear, since it uses both standard and mini phono plugs. So if your brain tissue needs some electro-stimulation, simply inject control voltages and audio signals directly from your modular into effects units and chains. Better yet, use two Patchulator 8000s and seriously expand your cranial capacity! Whatever it is that you can brainstorm - guitar pedals and studio effects, synths and samplers, grooveboxes and drum machines, modulars and modulation signals, mixers and recording interfaces - the Patchulator 8000 allows it all to interconnect.

Package contents:

- Patchulator 8000 unit
- Set of 8 mini patch cables
- Set of 4 rubber stick-on feet
- User guide

Nexus for effects pedals & Eurorack effects modules
Notes: Are your effects chains suffering from radioactive decay? The Transmutron allows you to combine pedals (and Eurorack effects) within its sonic reactor to create new and exciting compounds! Different results can be achieved using one of three modes: Fission (crossover filter), Fusion (crossfader), and Fallout (resonant wide-notch filter).

In the primary mode, Fission, the signal from your guitar, bass, synth, or drum machine is split into separate frequency bands, sent simultaneously to different effects, and then recombined to a single output (or two separate outputs). The Splitpoint parameter can be controlled manually or with an expression pedal, and simultaneously injected with a control voltage (CV) source for extremely dynamic reactions!

In Fusion mode, the Splitpoint instead acts as a pre-FX level crossfader, rather than splitting the signal into separate bands. This allows for less extreme blends, especially when modulating. In the third mode, Fallout, a resonant wide-notch filter is applied to both pre-FX channel signals, cutting a hole and creating a phasing-wah effect when using an expression pedal or LFO to sweep the Splitpoint back and forth.

To further shape the signals sent to your effects, the Transmutron is equipped with dedicated hi and low cut filters. In Fission and Fallout modes, the cutoff frequencies of these filters also define the end-to-end sweepable range of the Splitpoint parameter and its centre frequency. The filters have selectable slopes of 12, 24, or 48 db/oct, which also affects the crossover filter, and greatly enhances the resonance of the wide-notch filter. If further separation of the parallel FX channels is needed, a dedicated phase switch is on-hand.

Both FX channels have two sets of sends and returns: 1/4-in for guitar pedals and line-level effects, and 3.5mm for Eurorack level processing. For each channel, the 1/4-in and 3.5mm FX loops can be used simultaneously, as they are in series (3.5mm then 1/4-in). The FX sends are half-normalled so they can be used as buffered copies without affecting the returns. Additionally, the 3.5mm FX loops for each channel can be independently switched to pedal/line-level using internal dip switches, which allows for seamless integration with the Boredbrain Patchulator 8000.

How complex the reaction is up to you! From simple tone shaping using only a couple effects, to interconnected combinations of pedals and Eurorack modulation madness, the Transmutron is just the tool you need to reactivate your effects!

Review: The man behind the track that Move D proclaimed "owned the dome at freerotation" , returns with 3 new tracks of deep machine grooves, his first release since 2013's Analogue Mapping. "Frey'd" is built around a synth patch stumbled upon whilst conducting a test on one of bovill's machines with rennouned Synth engineer Frey Smith. Opening with playful ,bubbling analogue tones and nostelgic pads, before characteristic basslines, percussion and 303 lines join in, ending on a spaced out contemplative groove . " L.A.T. " is a more stripped down track, which ebbs and flows around subtle builds, tweeks, and delays, perfect for the deeper late night dancefloor. Closing the ep is Golden burn, the deepest and most dubbed out of the 3 tracks, sprinkled with emotive keys, and underpinned by distinctive bass lines.

  4. Baby I'm Yours (La Funk Mob remix)
Review: 2010 looks like it's going to be a very big year for Parisian producer Thibault Berland aka Breakbot. As part of the Ed Banger family he's been producing a steady slew of quality remixes for Metronomy, Justice, Sebastian Tellier and Late Of The Pier, and now he's stepping up with excellent new material of his own.

In the vein of seriously smooth late 70's rockers like Hall and Oates and Michael McDonald, the title track has tons of charm courtesy of a vocal from Irframe. Add to that the modern production of Holy Ghost or Discovery-era Daft Punk and it's a pretty special disco-flavoured slice of sophisticated French pop.

Another man who's becoming hot property for 2010 is German producer Siriusmo, who turns in a remix that matches Breakbot's sense of retro fun and studio mastery. Far from Siriusmo's more Techno roots, this mix is almost a Psychedelic rock song, complete with cowbells and chiming 12-string guitars. It's weird and wonderful, and has more than a nod to Archie Bell and The Drells' seminal "Tighten Up".

Review: Stephen Brown's "Deep In" first surfaced last summer, delivering a breezy dancefloor punch to the guts full of bouncy techno drums, analogue synth-bass and fluttering vocal samples. A year on it returns, this time reworked by long serving Berlin producer Len Faki. On the A-style you'll find the "Hardspace Mix", in which Faki puts a rocket under the Edinborough producer's original. While it remains bouncy and the female vocal samples take pride of place, the percussion is tougher and closer in feel to classic Motor City rhythms. Turn to side B and you'll find the "Deepsace Mix", a thrillingly hypnotic interpretation seemingly tailor made to cause commotion in German clubs at 7am. Deep, driving and percussive, it's a real Teutonic treat.

Review: Steve Bug is back with a brilliant release to close 2007. In between A&Ring three labels, mixing and promoting two high profile club mix compilations, ('Fuse Presents Steve Bug' earlier this year and the 37th edition of Fabric's 'Prestigious Mix' series, released in November) we are glad he has found some studio time. 'A World Without' on the a-side is what we love Steve Bug for - his analogue warm sound and his simple understated fashion but unhurried ability to bring in slowly burning intensity, taking things to a different level and his talent in using minimal elements for maximum effects. The track kicks off with a subtle groovy beat plus Steve's vocal sample and shows him adding layer over layer of nifty sounds, building up to a hypnotic groove, after which the ever-increasing, stomach-punching synth kicks in - he then strips things back to the nude again in exactly the right moment. The track has something magical to it from the very first beats, a sure dancefloor winner that will captivate dancers and listeners at both peaktime and after hour sets. 'Cru Sauvage' on the b-side is based on a bubbly, bleepy melody, a collage of deep and twisted effects grooving around the beats, heavy offbeat snares and unexpected house chords. An impeccable production and the perfect flipside to Steve's last release in 2007.

Like much of his back catalogue, it effortlessly flits in mood from celebratory to deep before ending up in tripped out mode. The title track sees the Poker Flat boss in typically jaunty mode, with summery keys unfolding over an upbeat tech groove. "Thick As Mud" is much darker and rides a searing bass and tougher drums. Rounding off the release is "Pants on Fire", where Bug draws on his minimal background to deliver a pulsing, acid-soaked affair that is custom-made for after hour usage.

Review: London's legendary Mute institution goes back to its roots and digs up some of the best work by one of the UK's finest Cabaret Voltaire. These guys don't really need an introduction give the fact that they're pretty much responsible for the rise of post-punk right through to the birth of techno. It was about time a new compilation of their stuff was released, especially one as brutally on-point as this one! All the classics such as "Nag Nag Nag", "Kneel To The Boss" and "On Every Other Street" are one here but the more obscure rarities that were previously only available on 7" are the real winners. "Just Fascination", for example, is one you'll certainly want on a longer, re-mastered cut! Downright essential!

Review: With Christmas fast approaching, Throbbing Gristle founder member Chris Carter has decided to offer up the perfect stocking filler for industrial and experimental electronica enthusiasts: a limited coloured 6xLP retrospective focusing on the early part of his solo career. While it omits his 1980 debut "The Space Between", it does include expanded, re-mastered versions of 1985's surprisingly ambient "Mondo B", 1998's trippy, hypnotic and rhythmical "Disobedient Redux" and 1999's brilliant "Small Moon Redux". Even more excitingly, one of the box's LPs is the most experimental, out-there and inspired of all, as it is made up entirely of previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1973 and 77. In truth, this LP is worth the entrance price on its own.
