Review: Unknown artist, well known banger merchants; the mysterious Rasta Vibez return with two massive soundystem bangers fresh for the summer. 'Uruhu' gets us into soldier mode with its heavily processed vocal and marching sense of momentum. Meanwhile on the flip we have 'Chant Down Babylon' which kicks off all guns blazing on a big sing-along, sunny-side dubwise tip.

DJ KOS - "Untitled Future" (6:29)
Karma Krew - "Cracking Up" (5:22)
Dubious - "Heartbreak" (5:54)
Review: In the words of Lisa Stansfield, some of us live for the future and some of us wonder. Others, meanwhile, just love to bash out the rave bangers. Others like DJ Kos and his pals Billy Daniel Bunter, Sanxion, Karma Krew and Dubious. All of them delivering premium euphoric goods on this limited coloured vinyl. Following Bunter and Sanxion's hair-raising remix and Kos's timeless original come two more weapons. The mysterious Karma Krew go for the feels with sweeping pads and skippy beats on 'Cracking Up' while Dubious's 'Heartbreak' takes another classic vocal sample and hurls it several decades into the future. Live for it.

Roffadamn Jungle (Akira Concrete Jungle remix) (4:24)
Review: Roffa than ruff! Netherlands craftsman Mike Redman (AKA Deformer) unites local MCs Bigman Scep, Swift and Dart for this big singalong skank-out. Tailored for festivals, it pays homage to the roots with big party energy. Meanwhile on the remix front we're bombarded with an all-star cast as UK OGs Bizzy B and Ed Rush both get stuck in alongside Mike under his Deformer alias. Bizzy is all about the modern rave twist while Ed Rush gets an old Bad Company style and Deformer goes all-out breakcore. Elsewhere on this double 12" opus we see Mackadena get the breaks on, Rotterdam Terror Corps go full hardcore and Akira teasing us with a little twist of gabber. High grade Dutch business.

Review: Those with their ear to the drum & bass underground will know that Hugh Hardie has been dropping slick tunes on Hospital Records for many years. The Cambridge-raised producer made a move to Solvent Records recently though and now is back with his third album, Jukebox. It is his best yet with early singles 'Blush' featuring Zara Kershaw and 'Face Off' with PAV4N of Foreign Beggars already winning plenty of plaudits. He shows his widescreen sound off in all its glory here - there are soul drenched rollers, lush vocal tunes and collaborations with the likes of Footsie, Degs, Killa P and more.

Love Is The Key
Review: The Fokuz sub label Rasta Vibez continues to shape itself out as an essential d&b label on its own terms with this latest sure shot. The clue is in the name, as the shadowy crew behind the imprint continue to explore explicit crossovers between roots and dub with modern breakbeat science. 'Observer' marries deep, swimming echo chamber skank with a crisp, rolling rhythm, while 'Love Is The Key' has a brighter, bouncier demeanour helped no end by the infectious bump of the b-line and the mellow piano chops.

Review: Vibez '93 is one of the must-check outposts for the Dutch d&b scene and in four years they've shaped up a mighty catalogue of ruffneck rollers and snare-rush slammers for your raving pleasure. This time around they're making space for Minos & InnaSelf to explore a variety of shades, from Minos' catchy-as-hell solo drop 'Jungle Massive' to the duo's fathoms deep soul cut 'Eclipse'. 'Look Good' takes things into even brighter territory facing diva vocals off against mellow ragga toasting, while 'Emerald' lays down rich synth lines for a truly atmospheric trip.

Review: Avid followers of contemporary drum & bass might have clocked No Nation popping up on the likes of Future Retro or teaming up with Sheba Q for a single on Diffrent Music. Now the shadowy producer has manifested on Banoffee Pies' White Label series with further switched-on excursions into inventive breakbeat chops and mysterious atmospheres. From the smoky drumfunk of 'Deation' to the melancholy, flute-licked haze of 'Gad Damn', this is a sterling exercise in inventive d&b from an artist pushing modern iterations of the sound into intriguing new pastures while holding true to the tenets of the genre.

Review: Rising London talent Echo One jumps aboard the good ship Silent Force with four star-gazing slammers that all take root in the golden age of hardcore, jungle and that early Headzian wave of stark futurism. Highlights include the ice cold pad blasts of 'You Don't Know' and the cosmic brutalism of the title track but all four cuts will crush any rig in a 50 mile radius. Review: Following releases on Meditator Music and SFR, RUNDR now hits hard on Sonic Force with these four junglistic gems. Pure breakbeat science, loaded and coded with the type of dynamic drama you might expect on Astrophonica or Phantom Audio (Spirit RIP) each cut digs deep into the foundations with class and high energy. Highlights include the beautifully unhurried intro and build of the title track 'Westbound' and the mesmerising chimes and harmonics on the opening cut 'Roll On'. Rundr-full.

Review: Did you know that Iceland had its own rather influential rave scene back in the 1990s? Whatever the answer to that question, you will want to check out this first-ever collection of anthems from that era which is now on vinyl for the first time. This collection came on Thule offshoot label TMT Entertainment as a CD in 1992 and features memorable and timeless tracks from back then, many of them now with cult status. It's called Alsaela, which translates as "ecstasy" and gives you some idea of what to expect from it. It features a non-stop selection of old school rave alongside some lost and previously unavailable classics by Agzilla & DJ L.S.K and some unreleased gems from AJAX. A great bit of history that still does the trick.

Review: There's no need to explain the importance of Krust to jungle and drum & bass - the Bristol pioneer set new standards and has a legacy overflowing with next level invention and shock-out grooves. This compilation on Wonder Palace makes the case in no uncertain terms, taking a broad view over his work and delivering some stone cold classics alongside harder-to-find bits and pieces. What's apparent is how Krust build's vivid worlds within his tracks, not least on the widescreen classic 'Brief Encounters'. There are deadly rollers like 'Set Speed' and 'Maintain', dreamy deep-divers like 'Jazz Note' and so much more in between. If you want seven seminal joints from a true master, this comp has got you covered.

Review: Timeless hardcore breakbeat action as label newcomer DJ Stephano makes his debut on Luna C's seminal Kniteforce imprint. 'Heaven' sets the scene with all big flavours from the time; euphoric pianos, wild time-stretched drums and a feel good energy. Deeper into the EP we rave as 'Stella' takes us into deep space with its prowling arpeggio and alien-landing pads. Flip for more piano positivity and hardcore style pitched up vocals while 'Out There' brings the EP to a contemplative close. Classic Kniteforce tackle.

Lilac Cobwebs (feat Selena Jones) (6:06)
Deity Spear (5:22)
Cosmic Horror (6:35)
Switchblade Groove (6:12)
Review: It's been a while since we heard from R&S Records, so we're more than chuffed at news of this latest EP, which this time hears them extend their prolific, ravenous taste for new music ever-further, into what could be described as halftime drum & bass. This time the productions come courtesy of British producer Quartz, and perhaps a name like 'Deity Spear' tells you all you need to know; this is an angelic, synaptic, rapturous EP. Megadeep subs underlie snappy, endlessly-varied hat combos on the openers 'Lilac Cobwebs' and 'Deity Spear', which recall the contributions of Djrum or Lone to the label in recent years, with their cavernous space and extra attention to detail. 'Cosmic Horror' and 'Switchable Groove' refuse to let up on this overarching atmosphere, but lend it a new light altogether, fleshing out evermore sinister contours.

Review: Contender for one of the biggest 140 tunes of the year, Halogenix and Strategy's 'PFTD' finally sees wax justice and sounds even heavier than it has before. Praying for the dead with every sharp Manny bar, Strategy works his lyrical magic over Halogenix's Lordel-style swagger, it's been a sure-fire festival favourite ever since. Comes complete with 'Bliss', another highly strung 140 piece laced with more tension than an elastic band testing factory. Halogenix has been on a roll this year.

Even The Jungle (5:36)
Shroom Lagoon (6:46)
Review: Kid Lib is an alias of Sheffield-based jungle producer Kenny Pitman, a breakbeat lifer with a hefty salvo of deadly wares to his name. Now he's nurturing a specific approach with his No Amen label, demanding that all tunes avoid the omnipresent Amen break as a means of pushing artists to dig a little deeper and deliver a more varied sound. Pitman kicks things off with two advanced cuts of breakbeat acrobatics, but even beyond the drums these tunes are teeming with fresh ideas and sonic flourishes that confirm Kid Lib as one of the most essential operators in the modern-day jungle scene.

Think Equinox, think Paradox, think pure Amen science, blasting at you at 160mph with ice cold pads lurking in the background... before a stunning breakdown sweeps you off your feet. For the remix IJO brings a whole new wave of space, thicker pads and a deep funk in that slinky bassline. Mileage for your missions.

Review: Amenology affiliate Mike Symiakos returns to the label for the first time since 2018 and he comes packing two breathtaking jungle gems. Hot on the heels of recent cuts on the likes of 'I Am Sorry' (on Ruff Cutz) and 'Zion Bound' (with Dial M on Sweet Sensi) 'Recovery' is a big sweeping emotional cut that could easily be compared to any classic Infrared release while 'I Survived' focuses a little more on the breaks before flipping into a beautiful cosmic odyssey. Big kid tackle.

Review: Direct drumfunk from the Russian whizzkid S Kid! UK jungle imprint come forth with two unapologetic slap-abouts. 'Document' plays good cop/bad cop as the cosmic pads and arpeggios and classic vocal sample give you a warm hug while the drums come in hard with all kinds of accusations. 'Guidelines' follows with a similar strong sense of contrasts but more of an old school foundation hardcore type of feel; non-stop drummage and a universe of synth flurries overhead. Sublime.

Review: Canadian producer Sixteenarmedjack is well-known for his extremely satisfying liquid jungle explorations, with 'I'm Ready' being no exception to this well-established rule. Coming to fellow self-appointed breaks scholars Amenology, the four tracks on this EP are as functional as they are rambunctious, spanning multiple moods and eras. 'Skin Out' in particular has a sort of early jump-up vibe, with a Demons-Thematic smattering of sound effects peppered with an overarching blue-noted jazz texture.

Review: Samurai bossman Presha has been something of a late bloomer when it comes to productions. A renowned and hugely respected DJ, promoter and label owner for many years - pretty since the beginning as he's one of the people responsible for cultivating New Zealand's thriving D&B culture - it's only been the last few years since he entered the fray as a producer with his debut landing in 2021. Now making up for lost time he's hitting hard with some ludicrously dynamic and deadly cuts, this being his heaviest so far. Highlights include the high voltage sizzling Reese on 'Temple' and the skin melting pneumatic two steps on 'Raven'. Immense.

Review: Forever flipping through the tempos and the styles, Artikal bossman and all-round legend J:Kenzo has the honour of being the launch artist on Alternate Recordings - a brand new label from longstanding Bristol party crew. Hot on the heels of his Metalheadz release, Kenzo keeps things d&b with both of these raffish, rugged cuts. 'RawZ' bashes and bumps in all the right places, aided by shimmering percussion and a sweet vocal stab placed at all the right moments. It's backed up by the sultry, sexy 'Typhoon' that flexes on a halftime groove for most of the track and features a smouldering vocal you'll instantly recognise. Stunning.

Review: As heard smashed on Vision Radio by Noisia on several occasions, original US junglist UFO! gets real on the beautifully named Psycho Bummer label. Four cuts of chaotic choppy-choppage and Amen splinters, this represents everything that's exciting about modern jungle right now. 'Level Up' and 'Big Up All' are all about the bashy bumps and shunts, 'Operation Drag N Drop' is a lot more nostalgic with its jazzier drums and emotional pads while 'Feed The Cat' tickles the whiskers with big drums and a mystical charm. Impeccable work, our advice is to identify this flying object as soon as you can!

Computer Love is a double pack on his own label MYOR that explores downtempo sonic landscapes, deep drum & bass and occasional forays into UKG and breakbeat. Review: After spending eight years showcasing his wares on labels including System Music, Sector 7 Sounds and Coyote Records, deep bass music specialist Drone is ready to unveil his debut album, 'Dance With The Devil'. In keeping with his boundary-blurring approach, the 13-track set presents tracks that variously draw influence from deep dubstep, grime, electro, skwee and d&b. It's a hugely atmospheric and - it should be noted - on-point affair, with Drone being joined by a host of well-regarded collaborators including Snowy, Alix Perez, Hyroglifics, Deft and Elm. Our picks of a strong bunch include the skittish, clandestine 140 business of 'Swamp', the dubby trip-hop/deep soul of 'Ski Mask' and the breathless electro-goes-d&b flex of 'Jugtown'.

Review: Constant Sound is one of the many labels Burnski aka Instinct is heading up right now and they are all as good as each other. This one focuses on house and tech sounds and welcomes Adam Pitts to the fam with three standouts. 'Gadget Crew' opens up and has a big, high-energy groove with plenty of oversized drum sounds and a retro melody paired with an intriguing soulful vocal. It has a dark garage tinge and is perfect for late-night action. 'Just This Once' is tough and physical, with warped and naughty bass and thwacking great hits irresistible to all. Last all comes a Skins Junglist Crew remix which is exactly that - a fine one for the jungle heads.

Inhabitants Of Pandemonium (5:35)
Retribution (7:00)
Epilogue To Freedom (6:06)
Review: Spirits From An Urban Jungle were a jungle supergroup comprising of JMJ (EZ Rollers) & Richie and Tekniq, who between them continued to release music through the 90s and 00s on scene stalwarts such as Moving Shadow, Formation and Good Looking. But the group itself only had two releases back in 1994 on White House Records before they disbanded. Urban Decay EP is their second and final release - a blitzing four-tracker in their own patented mode of spitting, classic early junglism. With distinctive anti-deforestation and anti-civ themes, it's a much-sought gem for a good reason; its sound - from the soul coos on 'Retribution' to the voxpops on 'Inhabitants Of Pandemonium' - is spiritual, seeming to hark back to a prehistoric age.

Wake Up Call (5:58)
Fire Like This (6:51)
The Dribbler (6:51)
Review: Swedish junglist Seba continues to dive into the back catalogue of his Secret Operations imprint and offer up EPs that feature remastered (and sometimes lightly remixed) versions of some of his classic cuts. On this second volume in the 'Secret Operations Reissue' series, he raids the catalogue of tracks he produced alongside Paradox in the mid 2000s. On side A you'll find a re-wire of their 2004 classic 'Wakeup Call', a punchy but deep, sub-heavy and atmospheric roller featuring fantastic lead vocals from legendary house vocalist Robert Owens. Over on the flip there's a chance to cop two cuts from 2005: the 'Apache'-sampling, rumbling sub-bass-propelled workout 'Fire Like This' and the punishing, jazz break-sporting sweatiness of 'The Dribbler'.

Your Deepest Love (7:26)

Inkasso (with Krazy) (6:17)
Legion (6:19)
Review: Swedish d&b pioneer Seba continues to roll out more reissues from his Secret Operations label vaults, taking back over 15 years to some of his most career-defining work. The swaggering opener 'Your Deepest Love', the ice cold finale piece 'Legion' and the breath-taking 'Forever' all take us back to the mid-2000s (2006/7 to be precise) when Seba and his label really started to make their own independent mark in drum & bass. For good measure and balance he's also including 'Inkasso'. A little more recent in his discography at only eight years old, but just as hard hitting and timeless - Seba always hits the spot whatever era you find him at.

Review: Bristol-based Hippo Sound System has a sound that draws on a wide sphere of reference from Afro to downtempo, tropicalia to dub. Origins in their debut album and comes deep in sound system culture but laden with evocative details that ate you away from the here and now to a humid jungle clearing full of ancestral rhythms, jazz freedom and contemporary bass music. It's a colourful and psychedelic listen that fuses the traditional and ritualistic with the futuristic and physical. Great drops, hooky melodies and a global feel make this one of the most unique albums you will have heard in some time.

Review: One of the foremost female frontrunners in the Dutch jungle/rave scene Yorobi makes her debut on Sneaker Social Club with this powerful slab of wax justice that ranges from the ambient title track 'Eden' to a contemporary breakbeat interpretation of a traditional black spiritual 'Motherless Child'. Between we have the eerie tension and percussive drama of 'Stabs', the sweet dreamy shuffles of 'Model Patient' and the gentle transportive charm of 'Rhode To Knowhere'.

X Termal - "Tragnal Kozz"
X Termal - "What If" (The Doulo Klan edit)
Bugger - "No Silence Now"
Umbra - "The Big Dumb"
Review: MELMAK's new 12" is entitled All Stars: The Rave Years which gives you an idea of what to expect. These are high-tempo, dense and rave ready sounds from the drum & bass vanguard. There is plenty of space out cosmic energy to the exploratory leads of X Termal's 'Tragnal Kozze' then 'What If' (The Doulo Klan edit) is a tightly coiled stepper. Bugger lays down a hyper speed rhythm with drilling bass and slapping hits on 'No Silence Now' and Umbra's 'The Big Dumb' is a real slow-motion churner with textural synths and alien sound designs. All four are ready to get the party going in different ways.
