Review: Mancunian legends Graham Massey and Andy Barker reunite for the first 808 State album in 17 years. They recorded the new opus "Transmission Suite" in the Granada studios (where they once performed live on television 30 years ago) and looked to their hometown's club scene as their main source of influence - along with the timeless aesthetic of Detroit which has always influenced their style. Across this collection of "sonic landscapes" (as described by Massey) you'll hear the booming acid electro of first single "Tokyo Tokyo" and "The Ludwig Question", through to off-kilter jams like "Westland", futurist house grooves of "Ujala" and a modern reboot of classic "Angol Argol".

Review: Given that it's called "Coloured" and appears on shocking pink vinyl, you'd expect Adam Longman Parker's debut album as Afriqua to be a decidedly vibrant and kaleidoscopic affair. It is, of course, with Longman Parker offering up tracks that mix tropical-sounding electronics, glassy-eyed synthesizer motifs, processed vocal sounds and evocative musical flourishes with jaunty, interesting rhythms that neatly sidestep conventional genre rules. It's a mixture that makes for hugely enjoyable listening, with highlights coming thick and fast. These include - though are by no means limited to - the densely layered dancefloor cheekiness of "Shout", the minimalist ambient bliss of "Noir", the hypnotic, intergalactic oddness of "Native Sun" and the bubbly club warmth of "Jumpteenth".

Review: Barely six weeks after dropping her debut single on River Rapid, Henrietta Smith-Rolla pops up on Skam with a surprise debut album. As first full length excursions go, "Break Before Make" is undeniably impressive. Beginning with the spooky, minor key electronics and angular IDM rhythms of "Day Turner", the 14 track set sees Smith-Rolla successfully turn her hand to bittersweet synth-wave ("And!"), dystopian pitched-down electronica ("Guess What"), spacey electro ("Work It", "Wtfwtfwtf"), clandestine electronic soundscapes (the panicked shuffle of "Blanket Ban") and grandiose sci-fi soundtrack fare ("The Middle Middle"). Throughout, the Manchester-based producer consistently delivers otherworldly musical melancholia with a panache not associated with a producer of her relative inexperience.

High quality earplugs for musicians, featuring three different filter sets
Notes: As a musician, DJ or sound technician, you often find yourself surrounded by loud music, which means you run a high risk of sustaining hearing damage. Hearing loss has direct consequences for your ability to do your job or enjoy your passion. Properly protecting your hearing is therefore essential during rehearsals, performances and concerts. For professionals in the music industry, Alpine has developed the MusicSafe Pro, the most high-end product in our hearing protection range for musicians.

Three sets of AlpineAcousticFilters - choose your own level of sound attenuation:

MusicSafe Pro earplugs are the only universal earplugs in the world that offer three different sets of filters. With the included gold, silver and white music filters, musicians, DJs and sound technicians have the freedom to choose between different levels of sound attenuation for various applications. These filters reduce the music volume to a safe level without compromising the music experience at all. The unique AlpineAcousticFilters only attenuate harmful sounds. At the same time, they do not affect the quality of the music and still allow the wearer to communicate with their fellow musicians at a normal level. It is like turning down the volume a few notches. This not only makes MusicSafe Pro invaluable during performances or in the studio, but also during concerts, rehearsals and teaching sessions. You can choose your own level of sound attenuation in any situation.

- Gold filter: average attenuation (SNR) 22 dB
- Silver filter: average attenuation (SNR) 19 dB
- White filter: average attenuation (SNR) 16 dB

Practical, comfortable and durable:

MusicSafe Pro earplugs are made of the special AlpineThermoShape material, which moulds itself to the wearer's ears because of their own body heat. This means the earplugs are a perfect fit for the wearer's ear canal and will always stay in place, which makes them very comfortable to wear. The thermoplastic material is hypoallergenic, which prevents an itchy sensation in or around the ear. MusicSafe Pro earplugs can be used more than one hundred times. They are available in two colours: transparent and black.

With luxury storage case, cleaning spray and carrying cord:

Alpine MusicSafe Pro earplugs come with a handy case in which to store the earplugs and filters. The case can easily be attached to a keyring. Every set also comes with a carrying cord that you can attach to the earplugs for when you are not wearing them. You can easily and quickly clean the earplugs with the included Alpine Clean, a disinfecting cleaning spray (5 ml). Cleaning the earplugs regularly will extend their life span.

Review: Joe Armon-Jones has been a driving force in the resurgence of contemporary jazz and now makes something of a victory lap with this new album on the always essential Brownswood. It's a very modern mix of bass and dub, du jour club culture and his own jazz styles featuring peers like Moses Boyd and Nubya Garcia. Frankly, the whole record is silky, starry-eyed and sublime and the excellent artwork also hist at the cosmic subtleties of this album, but our picks of the bunch are the neo-soul, summery stroll through the park vibes of "Yellow Dandelion", "Gnawa Sweet" which glows with mellifluous Rhodes chords and the uncompromising yet accessible sax and big brass action of album highlight "You Didn't Care".

Review: Since initial release in 2003, this classic from Atmosphere has been in and out of print and received various represses as a result. It is the gift that keeps on giving, frankly, it is an album takes you on a metaphorical journey through politics, emotions and the physical. Personal stories and vulnerable truths come from Slug's rich writing and richer delivery combined with complex rhythms, cosmic synths and funky drums that all help elevate the record yet further. It might not get the props of many of its peers, but this underrated gem should be on the shelves of any discerning hip hop collector.

Concentrated cleaning liquid for vinyl records
Notes: The Audio Anatomy Vinyl-Cleaning Concentrate is the highly efficient basis for all wet cleaning solutions. Entering deeply into the vinyl grooves it dissolves dirt at its very origin. Oak wood/goat hair vinyl brush, in natural colour
Notes: The Audio Anatomy Vinyl-Brush made of oak wood and goat hair ensures highly efficient and easy to use dry and wet-cleaning of vinyl. The very fine goat hair enters deeply into the grooves of the vinyl and therefore removes dust very efficiently. In combination with the nylon fibres the goat hair, at the same time while cleaning the record, discharges static electricity. Thus, the two main reasons for disturbed sound reproduction, dust and electrostatics, are removed by using the Audio Anatomy Oak Wood and Goat Hair Brush.

Apart from its cleaning capabilities the brush impresses with its beautiful design and the use of natural materials coming from the EU. In order to also keep your vinyl clean from dust after the application of the Audio Anatomy Oak Wood and Goat Hair Brush, we recommend to store your vinyl in the antistatic Audio Anatomy Inner Sleeves.

Review: Latin trap star Bad Bunny's debut album got widespread acclaim when it was released at the end of last year. Now "X 100pre" (which is an abbreviation of "Por siempre" in Spanish, meaning "Forever") gets a vinyl release complete with cuts featuring Diplo, Drake and El Alfa. Even without speaking the lingo, the production tells its own story and conveys a wide range of feelings from, you suspect, dejection "Otra Noche En Miami" to empowerment ("Ser Bichote") and romance on "Como Antes." It is a vibrant and crisp debut from the Puerto Rican that is powerful as well as off kilter.

Review: Kris Baha has been on a serious roll over the past few years, notching up releases on Bahnsteig 23, Pinkman and many more besides. Now feels like the right time for him to drop an album, and where better to do such a thing than Cocktail D'Amore? The Berlin-via-Melbourne producer's sound comes through loud and clear - minimal wave and industrial influences abound, executed with ferocity and flamboyance in equal measure to create a many-shaded set of deviant dance bangers. "Living Nothingness" is the ultimate nihilistic beatdown, "Steel Sands" channels early Nine Inch Nails to perfection, and "Defied" has a propulsive thrust that would make Al Jourgensen proud. Baha wears his influences on his sleeve, and why not? They're great influences that he creates stunning music with.

Review: Where would we be without our mothers? Literally nowhere, of course, given the medical facts of life. But psychologically and spiritually somewhere very different, too. Just ask Devendra Banhart, whose latest, heartbreaking and poignant LP packs intimidating strength and thoughtful themes by the birth-giving load. Here the synths that dominated more recent albums are replaced by instruments best described as "a bit earthier", with strings and woodwinds joining brass and keys. Despite its title, this album is less a dedication to motherhood itself and more a meditation on emotional ties and links in general. "Memorial", for example, is about the death of Banhart's father, while elsewhere we are told love is like "crowd surfing in an empty club". As per usual, Banhart's songwriting verges on mania, recalling the late-Daniel Johnston's razor sharp observations wrapped in innocent imagery, while the instrumentation conjures Burt Bacharach and the like.

  4. The Real You Is Not You (11:16)
Review: By his usual prolific standards, Romanian producer Barac Nicolae has been rather quiet this year. "The Real You Is Not You", a double-pack of varied dancefloor cuts in his trademark minimal style, is only his second outing of the year. It's rather good, though, with sparse but groovy rhythm tracks providing the backing for all manner of ear-pleasing musical touches and mind-altering electronic effects. Our picks of the bunch are the funky, dreamy and sun-kissed hypnotism of "A Story Behind Everything" and the tipsy wonkiness of the title track, where trippy vocal samples and blissful synth riffs rise above an undulating, off-kilter groove.

Review: There are a few Beastie Boys reissue projects in the works at the moment, but none will be more popular than this 30th anniversary edition of one of the band's best. After their experimental mini-album "Roots Down", "Paul's Boutique" is composed, vocals aside, almost entirely of samples all put together in Matt Dike's apartment and the Record Plant in Los Angeles from 1988 to 1989. It marked the moment they were taken seriously, became hip hop giants and broke free of their one hit wonder tag. Its retro style and gleeful misuse of samples was thrillingly original yet familiar and despite the myriad of sounds, scenes and styles drawn upon, somehow they all added up to make this a cohesive album.

Review: There's a chance this Liverpudlian four piece will be familiar by now. This, their 11th studio outing, first unveiled as the 1960s slipped into the 70s, is a bonafide epic from an outfit that weren't lacking in epics; in many ways a culmination of their time together, marking the end of their active years and beginning of their legacy. By this stage, then, they've emerged from years spent on the inner journey and time on the outer, space cadeting to the hallucinogenic fuelled tones of "Sgt. Peppers" and "Revolver". Of course, there's still plenty of explorations happening, but the gritty blues rock of opening track "Come Together" really sets the tone. Five decades on, it still sounds great and maybe even better than you remember. Even if you own the original, this anniversary edition is worth having.

Review: Devonte Hynes has long been one of independent music's most unique artists: a multi-instrumentalist, producer and vocalist whose music brilliantly joins the dots between '80s soul, '90s R&B, guitar-based dream-pop, hip-hop, new jack swing and psychedelia. To date, he's not released a duff album, and "Angel Pulse" - his fifth studio set - is another winner. Interestingly, it's said to be a "prequel" to last year's "Negro Swan" and is structured like a hip-hop mix-tape, with tracks segueing into each other and a superbly soulful flow. Its 14 tracks are as evocative and emotion-rich as you'd expect, with an impressive roll call of guest vocalists and MCs swinging by to add their own distinctive twist to Hynes' impeccable backing tracks.

Review: Dev Hynes is the British producer, singer and songwriter who has a disarming sound that mixes r&b, soul and 80s pop. His latest album is another tender and vulnerable affair with drum lead minimalism on tracks like "Baby Florence (Figure)", US hip hop on "Gold Teeth" and the pop tinged "Benzo." It is a joyous listen that recalls the classic homemade mixtape vibes of the 90s, where moods chop and change but are united by a certain joyfulness. Angel's Pulse is a simmering soundtrack to a lovestruck day in the park or a romantic sunset but one that has political undertones when you listen closely enough.

Review: Recorded in 1983 and '84 respectively, "Feelings" and "Sidiku Buari & His Jam Busters" were the last albums recorded by Sidiku Buari, a New York based musician who turned to music after a promising career as an athlete in his native Ghana. He initially rose to prominence making highlife and afro-disco, but by the early '80s Sidiku was in full-on Afro-boogie and electrofunk mode, offering up tracks rich in colourful synthesizer lines, punchy electronic drums and righteous vocals in his native tongue. There's much to set the pulse racing across both slabs of wax, from the squelchy, club-ready brilliance of "Music" and "Anokwar (Truth)", to the slap bass propelled flex of "Minsumobo", dub disco grooves of "Karambani" and flute-laden breeziness of "Rhythm Of Africa".

That should confirm how much the band have grown, although in this case rather than reaching for higher heights the development is like the roots of a tree. Here they're pushing deeper, and leaving the listener more nourished than any previous encounter. Poor analogies aside, dark undertones marry a sense of strange tranquility. The sort of feeling you get after suffering great loss and finally having a moment to reflect without that freight train of grief. There's sadness, or at least a subtle mood of lamentation to "Elena", but it also packs love at first sight melodies. "Effort" builds a tension from beneath, as though that aforementioned great oak were trying to burst from the earth itself. Alternative, detailed rock? Perhaps, but we prefer to simply say "stunning".

Review: This is an absolute treat for fans of experimental industrial noisniks Coil. If you fit that description, you should already be salivating at the prospect of a triple-vinyl album containing previously unheard, unreleased material. "Swanyard" is in effect an extended trawl through the late John Balance and Peter Christopherson's archives, focusing in particular on a productive period between 1993 and 1996 that saw the pair release a trio of acclaimed albums. Much of the material could be classed as either demos or work-in-progress sketches inspired by Christopherson's vivid dreams, but such was the quality of the pair's work that it sounds much more eccentric, vibrant and "complete" than many comparable compilations.

Review: Blue World is an album that was never intended for release. It features music commissioned for a soundtrack for a Canadian film in 1964 and showcases a quartet that was at its very best. It's made up of short tracks and alternate takes of early Coltrane material and is utterly vibrant. Catchy little ditties like "Village Blues", stripped down numbers like the title track and the mostly-improvised "Traneing In" are all testament to the enduring brilliance of Coltrane, no matter the setting in which he was playing. The clarity of the recording and richness of the bass playing also add to the overall beauty of this record.

Review: The always sublime Music For Dreams is a perfect home for the balearic vibes, European electronica and Brazilian stylings of Copenema's debut album. Their name is a portmanteau of Copenhagen and Ipanema, which is a nod to the fact the quartet is made up of musicians from Denmark and Brazil. Lead single "Te Faz Bem" is a funky downtempo number with live flute, sax and guitars, while Ibiza favourite "Serei Seu" is a funky party track that echoes the great samba man Jorge Ben. Next to these cuts are sunset gems and cosmic jazz explorations as well as a a trio of vinyl only bonus cuts.

Review: It's not just in the album title that Newcastle bard Richard Dawson is ahead of his time. His dark sense of humour and sweaty barroom gig sonics break through the noise, identifying, tackling but not seeking to solve the problems currently facing British society. What could be more post-modern than that? The UK right now is a fractured and somewhat broken island struggling to come to terms with its own place in the modern world. It's also filled with people struggling to come to terms with this reality. Focusing on portraits of those lost souls, it's poignant, cutting and lyrically hard-hitting. A bold and mammoth concept for an album, the instrumentation is even bigger, easing up on the blues and folk of his formative years to allow more room for pop to break through. The result is proof that in times of desperation a nation can at least rely on its artists to offer some hope that all is not completely lost.

Review: Two years ago, Diiv founder Z Cole Smith checked himself into rehab for "long haul inpatient treatment" for unspecified substance abuse. It's this treatment that provides the backdrop to "Deceiver", the band's third album (which, incidentally, is also the first written by all four members). Musically, it's a typically emotionally charged and glassy-eyed affair, offering tracks that touch on shoegaze, Pixies-style indie-rock, post-grunge and more. Lyrically, Smith's personal "resurrection" and experiences of rehabilitation play a key role, with many of the songs narratives offering a dialogue between old and new versions of himself. This particular limited edition version of the album is beautifully packaged, too, coming on marbled grey vinyl with various inserts and obi-strips.

Review: Talk to anyone about Stranger Things and it will only be a matter of minutes before the sensational soundtrack is mentioned. The future retro synths of Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein have a huge impact on deepening the occult feelings you experience when watching the show and that continued through Series 3. Now you can grab the accompanying tracks on neon pink vinyl, which features the vulnerable "You're A Fighter", celebratory 80s synth pop stomps of "Starcourt" and meditative charms of "The Ceiling Is Beautiful" amongst other nuggets of gold. The producers themselves have said this is less a score and more a series of cues, and it certainly got us thinking.

Review: Almost two years on from the release of his brilliant "The Sound of Mercury Rising" compilation, DJ Harvey returns with another brilliant selection of tracks he's championed at Pikes in Ibiza. As with its predecessor, volume two offers a giddy skip through the dustier corners of his notoriously eclectic and off-kilter record selection. Along the way, he offers up chiming, synth-heavy Balearic classics (Mandy Smith, Hugh Mane), weirdo European disco (Marta Acuna), evocative electronic soundscapes (System Olympia), blue-eyed synth-pop (Pamela Nivens), drum machine-powered Middle Eastern madness (Switchdance's sublime "Arabian Ride") and a swathe of tasty contemporary cuts (the jaunty jazz-funk of Midlife, Das Komplex's ace "Slap", Nu Guinea's splendid "Je Vulesse" and Peaking Lights remix of Land of Light being the highlights).

Dedicated slipmat for 7" records
Notes: BIG DONUTS is a dedicated slip mat that enables stable cueing and trick play when DJing 7-inch records. A ring-shaped foam that holds a 7-inch record firmly in the centre of a 2mm thick Dr. Suzuki Slipmat that suppresses static electricity and provides exquisite sliding and vibration isolation. By touching the 7-inch record directly on the 12-inch slip mat, you can enjoy smooth DJ play.

- For 7-inch records, other size records are not supported.
- An adapter is required when using a 7-inch donut board.
- If the black top layer gets stuck due to dust, wipe the surface with a wet towel.
- When not in use, place it in a case and store it on a flat surface.
- The 7-inch record is not touched and the BIG DONUTS part controls it.

Review: Portuguese pair Antonio and Manuela Duarte made plenty of music together in the mid-to-late 1980s - mostly offering an intriguing fusion of Ash Ra style meditative kosmiche, ambient electronics, new wave style and Iberian instrumentation - but very little of it was ever released. Hence "Electricidade Estetica", a debut album made up of previously unheard recordings that have sat dormant on reel-to-reel tapes for well over three decades. It's a fine collection of tracks, all told, most of which are near impossible to accurately describe or pigeonhole. Fundamentally, they're all inventive, atmospheric and ear-pleasing, offering a fine collection of head-in-the-clouds cuts that rises above its lo-fi roots to present the Portuguese pair as previously unheralded Balearic pioneers.

Review: Eight albums in and Elbow still know how to keep us interested. This time round it's a record that seems caught in perpetual motion, refusing to stay still even for a minute off its proggyness, with this the LP most removed from their standard modus of hyper-emotive, string-capped anthemia. Not that the contents aren't huge and destined to fill main rooms and outdoor arenas. A refreshing break for a band that, while unarguably talented and accomplished craftsmen, may - in the eyes of some at least - have at times been guilty of opting for the safety of familiarity rather than braving the great unknowns of sound. If anything, then, "Giants Of All Sizes" is the final pour that cements their place in the pantheons of British music. Exquisite, innovative and highly original stuff.
