  1. Sedition (6:32)
  2. Crown Of Nails (6:26)
Review: One year later, UVB-76's shadowy collective 4 6 2 5 strike again with two more unique startling schematics. Flexing across the tempo axis, "Sedition" leads with a fast 170 twist as hard pneumatic kicks cut through the dense foggy atmospherics before doubling up the momentum and taking unpredictable twists midway. "Crown Of Nails" maintains the hunchback pressure and that heavy foreboding sense synonymous with each member of the collective, but does so at a cool 105BPM pace giving space for each percussive element to ricochet around your purdy little pranged-out soul.

  1. Paul Valery At The Disco (Prins Thomas remix) (11:40)
  2. Ou Pas (Carrot Green remix) (6:16)
  3. Farmarama (A Man Called Adam Too Much dub) (10:54)
Review: While A Man Called Adam's recent "Farmarama" album did contain a few dancefloor-centric cuts, it was more geared towards sofa-bound listening rather than club play. Hence this tidy EP, which offers up a trio of dancefloor-focused revisions for Balearic-minded DJs. For us, the standout is undoubtedly Carrot Green's inventive revision of "Ou Pas", which re-casts the cut as a dubbed-out, acid-powered psychedelic house trip. That said, many will enjoy Prins Thomas' jazzy and surprisingly trippy take on "Paul Valery At The Disco", which contains tons of new Latin-tinged live percussion and a suitably wonky cosmic disco vibe. If that lot's not enough to set the pulse racing, A Man Called Adam's own "Too Much Dub" of "Farmarama" strikes just the right balance between chunky, bass-heavy rhythms and melodic dreaminess.

Review: Kevin Gorman's unstoppable edit craft continues! "Walrus Edits", as you may well have expected (or heard on his Boiler Room set) kicks off with a glittering twist on Barry White's "Passion". A lighter touched classic, here Gorman pays full respect with just a tweak in production to maintain the original's finesse. "Rivers" builds on AV's body of original work with creeping evocative piano licks while "Off The Man" continues the walrus theme with a dubbed out, highly strung take on "Somebody's Gonna Off The Man". Lovely.

  1. Blue Monday (6:40)
  2. Blue Monday (dub) (5:05)
Review: Mancunian Kevin Gorman used to make some great minimal techno on his Mikrowave imprint but has since moved on to create some of his best music under the Adesse Versions moniker. With a slew of fine edits and remixes under his belt, he presents us with a killer cover and tribute that's set to be one of the summer's biggest anthems. A tribute to the seminal New Order classic "Blue Monday", Gorman retains the very same Moog bass and ARP strings from the original, over a groovy breakbeat and a vocal reminiscent of Bernard Sumner himself. It was an ambitious feat, but Gorman manages to pull of an impressive rendition here, which also comes accompanied with a handy instrumental version on the flip.

Review: Three years have passed since Alessandro Adriani impressed with his debut album, an industrial, EBM, techno and neo-trance inspired set that marked the Berlin-based Italian as a producer on the rise. "Morphic Dreams", his belated sequel, may explore some of the same influences, but Adriani's vision seems far more widescreen. Check, for example, the decaying urban ambience of "Casting The Runes", the buzzing and bubbling synth-wave throb of "Raindance", the tactile slo-mo bliss of Simon Crab collab "Dust/Mist" and the grandiose, rising intensity of dystopian soundscape "Crow". There are, of course, a number of muscular, EBM-influenced club cuts, with the Nitzer Ebb-esque "Dissolving Images" and fizzing "Storm Tree" standing out.

Review: If you've been paying close attention to music release on techo's fluid margins, you may already be familiar with the work of Adam Longman Parker AKA Afriqua. He's released a fair amount of material over the last few years, serving up cuts that variously doff a cap to tech-house, techno and booming British bass music. This first EP for R&S Records is similarly hard to pin down. Parker begins with the tumbling music box melodies, subtle Afrobeat touches and rock solid rhythms of "Aleph", before mixing '90s modem noises and enveloping chords on hazy ambient piece "Sent". Over on side B, he serves up a dreamy and melodious take on dub techno ("Opferator" [sic]) and a Motor City influenced chunk of deep house/tech-house fusion (the rather brilliant "Thanksgiving").

Review: Given that eight years have passed since French techno stalwart Agoria released an album, it's little surprise to find that "Drift" sees him taking what he describes as "a new musical approach". On the accompanying press release, the Gallic veteran has described the set's sound as being inspired by "sitting on your sofa between your guilty pleasure and your tasteful opinion". In other words, it's a more open-minded and eclectic affair that mixes accessible, laidback vocal numbers (see the sparse tech-house-pop of opener "Embrace (feat Phoebe Killdeer)" and cheery chugger "You're Not Alone (feat Blase)" with nods towards wonky, off-kilter electronic hip-hop (STS hook-up "Call Of The Wild") and a swathe of heavier, club-leaning cuts inspired by his love of techno and Italo-disco.

Here we are treated to two wonderful remixes, both blessed with the French touch. Techno
  1. Samba (9:27)
  2. Memo (12:46)
Review: Alex is a brand new alias from the artist regularly known as Baba Stiltz - a Swedish producer whose quirky, off-kilter house and techno releases are rarely less than brilliant. His first Trilogy Tapes outing is suitably impressive. The real killer is "Samba", an inspired nine minute workout in which he layers deep, woozy electric piano motifs, sun-kissed chords, child-like vocal samples and rich bass atop a swinging, samba fired techno beat. The deeper and more bass-heavy "Memo" is even more epic; a near 13-minute journey through sparse, crunchy, hypnotic and dubbed-out minimal house rhythms and exotic, snake charmer solos. In other words, it's another top-notch EP from a producer who genuinely can do no wrong.

  4. Rompiente (In Flagranti remix) (5:01)
Review: Alisu is the electronic project of Chilean producer and graphic designer Jessica Campos de la Paz. Alisu started her career in 1998 by performing live sets of dub, techno, IDM and experimental sounds, not only as Alisu but also in the project Manziping with Rodrigo Rivera and Antonio Diaz, performing at many South American festivals. On her first release for Bottom Forty, Alisu composes three beautiful, purely hardware based tracks for the Rompiente EP with rhythmic vibes that take you from resonant underwater depths up into reflective cosmic atmospheres.

The opening track "Cyberspace" shows Alisu's synth prowess with a driving and building yet ambient electric world that eventually dissolves into different sparkling arpeggiations, while "Rompiente's" fractured vision of a perfect aural reality spreads across a beautiful seven minutes of hyper active arp's and bass rhythms. "Wake Up" has been a club and festival favorite as it's dance floor driving kicks create a solid groove mixed with transcendent pads and spaced out sounds are the perfect formula for keeping a dance floor moving while also elevating the listener to a higher level of emotion. Rounding out the Rompiente EP is a percussive rhythmic remix from one of our all time favorites In Flagranti who give us the deep and disco influenced bass lines we know and love.

Review: There's a decidedly rushing, saucer-eyed feel to Ellen Allien's latest album, her eighth since launching the BPitch Control label at the dawn of the century. The Berlin veteran shows no desire to soften her sound or move away from the dancefloor, delivering an eight-track set that giddily charges between neo-trance (the loved-up "Empathy" and tech-trance throb-job "Free Society"), post-dubstep electro (the swirling "MDMA" and atmospheric "Exit To Humanity"), raging acid ("Bowie In Harmony"), decidedly muscular techno (the arpeggio-driven heaviness of acid fired smasher "Love Distortion" and the creepier "Electronic Joy") and bubbly acid electro (superb closing cut "Stimulation").

Review: Last year, Amsterdam-based Turkish band Altin Gun delivered one of the most potent - and arguably overlooked - debut albums of the year, "On". 12 months on they return with album number two, "Gece", an inspired fusion of heavyweight Turkish psychedelia, funk, freak-folk and intergalactic rock. While the songs and recordings are brand new, the band's choice of instrumentation - vintage Moog synths, gnarled funk-rock guitars, skittish drums and fuzzy bass guitar - and 1960s style production gives the whole thing a deliciously retro feel. It's a recipe that guarantees thrills and spills, with "Yolcu", "Sofor Bey", "Derdimi Dokersem" and spacey "Gesi Baglari" among the many highlights.

Review: The latest outing on Vatos Locos' "Limited" series comes courtesy of Amo, an artist whose last solo outing - a decent but largely overlooked debut EP on Dissonant - was released way back in 2013. There's plenty to admire across the four-tracks, with opener "Find Turn" delivering an impressively deep, woozy and hypnotic blend of soft-touch electronics, drowsy, effects-laden vocals, dubbed-out aural textures and shuffling tech-house drums. Elsewhere, "Spitgame" is a more bass-heavy affair rich in wonky vocal snippets and bouncy drums, while "Whattosay" is a mind-altering chunk of early morning tech-house smothered in trippy electronics. To complete the package, Hector and David Gtronic join forces to deliver an off-kilter, club-ready minimal house revision of "Find Turn".

Review: UK nu-jazz/broken beat Maestro Martin Iveson aka Atjazz returns with more properly soulful and emotive deep house music on his new epic "Tear". Featuring all the hallmarks of his idiosyncratic sound, the original features soothing melodic tones, intricate rhythm arrangements and an all-round evocative feel. On the B side are two terrific remixes: UK producer Soulfuledge serves up a dreamy and hypnotic rework that will mix in well with your All Day I Dream/Tale + Tone records. Iveson looks further North to Peacey as he delivers an ethereal and sensual remix equally suited to all the daydreamers out there.
