  1. Second Exit (7:49)
  2. Zwei Koerper (10:47)
Review: Since 2013, Pablo Mateo has been crafting his trade and carving his signature techno sound into the underground community. We have nothing but praise for the guy, and we absolutely love his raw, improvisational style; it reminds us of artists like Barnt, artists that like to stay loose. This new EP comes courtesy of 777 Recordings sublabel FFF, and it's exactly the sort of refreshing techno cocktail that we're after these days. "Second Exit" is a dark, brooding dance floor number that is sparked into life by its fat bass tones riding beneath the percussion, and it's no doubt tune that'll be enjoyed by the UK techno audience. "Zwei Koerper" is a totally different kind of monster, a full-blown abstraction without any beats, instead using its cinematic drones to paint a vivid picture. Tip!

Review: The heavens have answered our prayers - it's the third helping of Silo Editions up on our shelves, and that means we actually get to review some good ambient this week! The enigmatic label have flown below-radar since their inception, and that is exactly what's helped them to gain more and more respect from a sub-scene so obsessed with surface appearances. That is, they've now conquered the minds of critics who actually base their judgments on music rather than frivolities. Much like the previous outing, SILO003 introduces us to a whole range of new talents, from MMY to Lea Caussat and Kapak; the one thing all these artists have in common is their utter neglect for anything grounded in sanity or predictability. Not once do we get the impression of sterility... each and every moment on here is grounded in improvisation and hedonism. Just like it should be.

Review: Canadian label Seance Center (run by former Invisible City Editions co-founder Brandon Hocura) presents an album by acupressure expert and electronic composer Sam McClellan. Music of the Five Elements is 'a work of perfectly tuned healing music', by way of minimalism, American primitive guitar and psychedelia. On the album, McClellan provides voice, synthesizer, guitar, bowed bass, piano, effects and Chinese flute: all played by himself. Of the album, McClellan himself stated that the optimum effect of the album is achieved if each side of the recording is played through in its entirety, without interruption. Moreover, it should be used as a meditational or body work tool, rather than entertainment, and will increase in effect over time. However, overplaying or improper use may eventually diminish its designed effect. Re-mixed and mastered from the original master reels.

Review: Many may know Seungyoung Lee AKA Mogwaa from his superb EPs and singles on Starwave, which sit somewhere between chillwave, boogie, proto-house and Italo-disco. There have been plenty of signs of his musical dexterity, though, and its' this side of his chameleon-like character that come to the fore on debut album "07307". While decidedly Balearic in vibe and tone, the album's nine instrumental soundscapes draw on a dizzying array of influences, from the synthesizer-based sounds he's known for to jazz, ambient, new age, dubbed-out synth-pop, Turkish style psychedelia and spaced-out movie soundtracks. In other words, it's a hugely enjoyable, atmospheric and alluring musical trip that surprises and delights at every turn.

Review: Belgian label Stroom return with an LP by Annelies Monsere. She has been playing music solo since 2000, initially piano-based and mostly instrumental, but once she discovered her voice - vocals became a main focus. Musically, she has experimented with different instruments such as cello, guitar, xylophone and melodica. Happiness Is Within Sight is her seventh album and traverses many moods and variations: from classical to shoegaze to ambient and even organ-led church influenced music. It is an emotional and introspective album from start to finish which allows us a window into the talented artist's soul.

Review: For their first issue, French label SILO inaugurate their label by combining several different musicians for their first collaboration. MTUA (Matthieu Reynaud) and Tom Villiers Moriame offer up six tracks, then an MTUA and Vincent Roussel collaboration on the second disc. Developed through three explorations, the label elaborates that "processed speakers and acoustic objects mix together.. harmonize themselves." They presented the possibility to gather artists and allow them to experiment in a rather unique sound setting: a large concrete silo, with the sound endlessly reverberating around them. All in all a rather immersive and isolating sonic experience, with the particular sound dynamics of performing in such an unusual setting truly evident on all tracks.
