Review: As you'd expect, Aleksi Perala has made the most of his self-developed, 128-note "colundi tonal scale" on "Oscillation 1", the first of a two-part album release on Clone's Basement Series. Perala's blueprint is relatively simple - think inventive, interesting electronic rhythms rooted in techno and electro, overlaid with ear-pleasing melodies, colourful aural textures and emotive chords - but the results are anything but standard. The album's six tracks are largely dancefloor focused, but the emphasis on melody - a nod towards vintage '90s IDM and classic electronica - means that they make for gorgeous, life-affirming home listening too. It would be a little churlish to call it an 'instant classic', but "Oscillations 1" is certainly superb - particularly the fifth track, which sounds like a tooled-up take on Orbital's "Attached" with added bass-weight.

Review: Mind-bogglingly prolific and eternally on the mark, Aleksi Perala has travelled a long way from his roots as Ovuca and Astrobotnia since embarking on his Colundi quest. Here we are with another wonderful set, this time presented on Trip which might well break his stellar sound to an even wider audience. There are theories behind Colundi which you would need to investigate yourself, but it might be simplest to just plunge into this immaculate techno creation and test the effects for yourself. Spine-tingling harmonic interplay, impeccably balanced sequences and a direct rhythmic approach make this so easy to latch on to, but there's something mystical bubbling away under the surface which elevates this beyond your average techno record.

Review: Finnish producer Aleksi Perala brings his brand of melodic, high-concept techno to Nina Kraviz's Trip label for the first time. As usual, the ten tracks here were created using Perala's now infamous "Colundi Sequence" - a micro-tuning method that's now almost better known than the former Rephlex man's music. There's naturally much to admire throughout, from restless club tracks blessed with rainbow-rich waves of melody, to strange, acid-fired wig-outs, low-slung, bass-heavy jack-tracks and glistening fusions of club-ready IDM and ultra-violet ambient. As a producer, Perala possesses a rare skill: the ability to create melodious, experimentally minded electronic music that works on club dancefloors. It's this that makes Paradox such an impressive release.

Review: Len Faki's LF RMX is a musical platform and a non-profit project at the same time. where he will release edits and remixes of tracks that were originally intended for his DJ sets. In Strassenkinder e.V. he's found an organization dedicated to helping children who live on the streets - and his new edits label found the right partner. The project was founded in 2000 and since then became a facility for Berlin kids in need. For the label's fourth edition he taps Finnish bleep techno hero Aleksi Perala, who in turn gets Faki's respectful edit skills onto them. Starting of with the cerebral and reduced A side cut "GBBVT1337152" (Len Faki Hardspace mix) which is really hypnotic in a Sahko or early Sleeparchive style. On the flip, we have a more energised and high octane stomper in the form of "UK74R1409047" (Len Faki Deepspace mix) which you could really imagine the man playing at one of his acclaimed residencies at Berlin's Berghain.

Review: Given that Aleksi Perala has self-released a phenomenal amount of music based around "the Colundi Sequence" - a custom musical scale that boasts 127 frequencies chosen "via experimentation and philosophy" - it can be hard for newcomers to know where to start. We'd suggest this hand picked collection of project highlights, which is Perala's second such compilation. As you'd expect, it contains some seriously good electronica, IDM and ambient music, all with unfathomable titles. While largely positive and jaunty in tone, Perala finds space to include the ghostly, piano-fired bliss of "UKR74R1512020", the frankly chilling drone antics of "UK74R1407020" and the spaced-out techno paranoia of "GBBVT1337202".

Review: Some years back, Aleksi Perala joined forces with Rephlex co-founder Grant Wilson-Claridge to invent a custom musical scale, The Colundi Sequence, which boasts 128 frequencies "chosen via experimentation and philosophy". Perala has been using this as the basis of his attractive electronic work for some time, self-releasing 15 EPs of tracks since 2014. This epic, triple-vinyl album gathers together highlights from the previously download-only series - all with deliberately obtuse titles, made up of letters and numbers - and accurately showcases the depth and diversity of Perala's work. Clone is calling it "spiritual techno", and that's an excellent catch-all description for a set that variously touches on Motor City futurism, IDM, electro, dub techno, ambient and Rephlex-esque "braindance".

Review: Curiously, this trip into the hyperactive mind of Finnish producer Aleksi Perala was first released as a digital-only album back in 2009. Here, it finally gets a release on CD, alongside a bonus disc of largely ambient material that echoes his excellent work under the Astrobotnia guise. While enjoyable, it's the skittering electronica, braindance techno and effervescent IDM of the original album that most impresses. Perala seems incapable of sticking to one style, and his joyous experiments take in breakbeat-driven intelligent techno ("Lep Through Time"), 8-bit junglisms ("Rungs of Saturn"), electro squelch ("Teardops") and Squarepusher-ish percussive dexterity ("High Camp").
