Global Darkness (reissue)
Cat: CREMECLASSICS 04. Rel: 26 Nov 20
Electro
  1. Electro Muzik (5:24)
  2. Interstellar Funk (5:08)
  3. Alien Life Form (3:50)
  4. Just Don't Understand (feat DJ K1 - bonus track) (4:41)
Review: As any electro-head will well know, AUX88 is one of the original Detroit pioneers. Back in 2008 he dropped this EP and now leading Dutch electro titans Creme Organization's Classics offshoot remasters it and reissues it complete with a bonus joint from DJ K1. 'Electro Muzik' is fierce from the off, with vocoded vocals and squelchy bass ripping up raw analogue drums. 'Interstellar Funk' is pure and perfect body music, with super-funk in the drum and bass combo and smeared sci-fi chords bringing all the feels. 'Alia Life Form' is another dark interplanetary trip then that DJ K1 tune 'Just Don't understand' locks you in a hall of reflective melodies and restless bass.

Voice Modulation EP
Voice Modulation EP (limited 12")
Cat: PBX 31. Rel: 02 Nov 20
Electro
  1. Voice Modulation (4:24)
  2. Mad Scientist (6:06)
Review: One of the genre's funkiest groups, continuing where Cybotron, Model 500 and Drexciya left off and heading to a style all of their own, Aux 88 aka Tom Tom (Tommy Hamilton) and Keith Tucker (DJ name DJ K1) give two tracks from their classic 2009 album Mad Scientist an inaugural outing on vinyl, getting electro fans everywhere dribbling with instant Pavlovian desire in the process, no doubt. 'Voice Modulation' is slower, heavier and steadier, built around a shuddering b-line that anyone with a pulse will find hard to resist. 'Mad Scientist' the track, meanwhile, is faster and, with its vocoder-ed vocal delivery from Tucker, gives a good flavour of what makes the Michigan pair a vital live act as well as a legendary studio prospect.

My AUX Mind (Cybotron, Egyptian Lover mixes) (black vinyl repress)
  1. My Aux Mind (Cybotron mix) (5:58)
  2. My Aux Mind (5:10)
  3. My Aux Mind (Egyptian Lover mix) (5:57)
  4. My Aux Mind (Egyptian Lover acappella mix) (5:42)
Review: Detroit electro's most bass-obsessed twosome, Aux88, recently reissued one of their most significant early releases, the forthright - and brilliant - "Direct Drive EP" from 1995. Thrillingly, they've decided to follow it up with a new issue of another '95 gem, "My AUX Mind", which backs the pair's brilliant, acid bass-propelled original mix (track 2) with fresh revisions from Egyptian Lover and, more impressively, Motor City electro originals Cybotron. The latter's version is superb: a spacey, high octane re-wire that's every bit as alluring as the duo's early 80s classics (think "Clear", "Techno City" etc). Egyptian Lover's main "remix" is slightly more intense with a more Kraftwerkian beat, while his accompanying "Acapella Mix" is a handy DJ tool for those who like vocoder vocals.

Electro In The Key Of Detroit Vol 1
  1. Aux 88 - "Phantom Power" (7:54)
  2. Blak Tony - "Holla Holla" (3:32)
  3. Posatronix - "Pure Techno Sound" (5:50)
  4. DJ K-1 - "Erase The Time" (6:36)
Review: From the minds of Direct Beat and Detroit Bass Classics, comes the first initial compilation of electro/techno heat. "Electro In The Key Of Detroit Vol 1" presents 4 proven dance floor dope and record crate staples that provide the hungry ears of masses the groove to move. A Side features two sure-fire steppers - a rare AUX 88 voyage entitled "Phantom Power" and Blak Tony's tempo-pushing "Holla Holla" finally see the light of day on this wax collectable, giving praise to Motor City footwork culture. On the flip, DJ K-1's "Erase The Time" rocked the airwaves and global clubs with its signature thumping style laced beneath alien-like melody and repetitive vocal structure while Posatronix's mutant-rhythm mantra, "Pure Techno Sound" pulls the weight of Detroit's street dance roots down to the origin of how to boogie in space. This collection of re-issued jams and new explorations is the must-have for the electro/techno & bass aficionado.
