Review: Black Peaches mainman Rob Smoughton has built up a considerable CV, with his own work as alter-ego Grovesnor added to stints in both Hot Chip and Scritti Politti. Yet 'Get Down You Dirty Rascals, his debut with this six-piece combo, is a jump off the deep end for this busy fella, being an earthy, '70s-tinged foray that blends freewheeling country rock -somewhat in the vein of Little Feat or Manassas, with latin percussion, krautrock groove and funk inflections for an easy-going and sunny sound displaying no shortage of band chemistry and melodic nous. Rarely has the bayou of the south been transported quite so effectively to London, and with such charm and flair.
