Power Of Thought EP
Cat: KNTXT 022. Rel: 16 Oct 23

Techno
Power Of Thought (6:12)
Pria (7:03)
Abada (2:29)
Review: Charlotte De Witte has long been a leader of the new school of techno. Her sound is tough an uncompromising and borrows from trance, hard techno and ambient often all at once. Her own KNTXT label is where she releases it and that is where she appears once more now with another fierce peak time EP. 'Power Of Thought' has big unrelenting drums, guying acid and some subtle smoked words for maximum anthemic effect. 'Pria' then brings some Middle Eastern melodic and vocal exoticness to her tightly clipped techno grooves and 'Abada' is a dramatic and cinematic ambient closer.

Techno
Missing Channel (6:30)
Apollo (7:03)
Mercury (7:40)
PPC (2:29)
Review: Belgian techno sensation Charlotte De Witte is very much queen of the new school sound. That said, the KNTXT label head, Apple Music curator, BBC Radio 1 host, fashion line designer and producer very much looks back to go forwards when it comes to making her music. She's brought a hard-edge vibe and plenty of trance influences to the scene with her sets and her tunes as this latest one proves. These are four peak-time bangers with acid lines, euphoric synths and plenty of video game references to keep the kids raving late into the night, and why not?

Universal Consciousness EP
Universal Consciousness EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: KNTXT 015. Rel: 28 Apr 22

Techno
Satori (6:22)
Kali (7:03)
Universal Consciousness (6:42)
Ahimsa (6:37)
Review: Charlotte De Witte has been leading techno's new school from the front for a couple of years now. The irrepressible Belgian has big, hard and fast sound but increasingly she brings various different influences into the mix. After ambient design on her previous EP, this time she looks deeper into trance, spy-trance and psychedelic sounds for inspiration. 'Satori' is a serene and hypnotic roller with transcendental vocals, 'Kali' ups the pace with sleek retro-future video game sounds and 'Universal Consciousness' brings some visceral acid to the booming kicks. 'Ahimsa' closes down in unrelenting big room fashion.

Asura EP
Asura EP (12")
Cat: KNTXT 012. Rel: 29 Sep 21

Techno
Asura (7:55)
Soma (7:35)
Stigma (6:42)
Review: Belgian techno titan Charlotte de Witte is one of the scene's biggest draws right now. This new EP on her own KNTXT label sees her once again draw parallels between the big, bold techno she makes and the euphoric rush of 90s trance. Right from the off she weaves bright, hands in the air chords into bulky, unrelenting drums to hypnotic effect. It is simple but well-designed stuff that will have a huge impact on the large crowds she plays to. 'Soma' is more intense, with the drums pushed to the front and incendiary hi-hats layered in next to spooky distant pads. 'Stigma' closes out with a textbook acid cut.

Weltschmerz
Weltschmerz (grey marbled vinyl 12")
Cat: TURBO 175MARB. Rel: 18 Aug 21

Techno
Weltschmerz (6:44)
Damage Control (7:31)
Lonesome (7:50)
Relatives Of None (7:44)
Weltschmerz (Melodic theme) (3:36)
Review: Having spent much of the last two years delivering wild, rave-ready outings, Charlotte De Witte now finds herself sat atop the global techno tree. That wasn't the case when she first released Weltschmerz on Tiga's Turbo label way back in 2015. It was an assured debut, as this timely reissue reiterates. Deeper, hazier and quietly melodic, the five tracks on show tend towards the hypnotic rather than the wild, acid-fired sound she's become famous for. Highlights include the ghostly title track, where deep melodies and intergalactic chords rise above a lo-fi techno beat, the after-hours haziness of 'Damage Control', and the stripped-back, lo-fi techno oddness of 'Relatives of None'.

Formula EP
Cat: KNTXT 010. Rel: 23 Jun 21

Techno
Doppler (7:13)
RPM (6:51)
Formula (7:42)
Review: Following up some great releases recently by ONYVAA and Alignment, Belgian techno heroine Charlotte De Witte is back with a vengeance this week on her beloved KNTXT imprint. The Formula EP features three ferocious cuts, all aimed squarely at the main room dancefloor at peak time. From the strict, heads-down shuffle of 'Doppler' and its ravey, infectious chord progression playing centre stage, to the cerebral stomper 'RPM' taking you aboard a wild ride on the acid express. It ends with the adrenalised energy flash of the title track, which goes out all guns blazing.

Rave On Time EP
Cat: KNTXT 007. Rel: 18 Dec 20

Techno
Rave On Time (5:53)
There's No One Left To Trust (6:41)
The World Inside (6:41)
Common Era (6:46)
Wahr Ist Sie Dann (5:38)
Review: On Rave On Time, her third EP of 2020, Charlotte De Witte giddily pays tribute to the throbbing, warehouse-ready techno sound of her home city of Ghent - and particularly the intense, mind-bending brand particularly associated with R&S Records in the early 1990s. De Witte sets the tone via the razor-sharp and insanely heavy title track, where ragged acid lines and spiky synth stabs leap above a stomping techno groove, before opting for drums, drums and more drums on the restless 'There's No One Left To Trust'. Acid techno is the order of the day on 'The World Inside' and 'Common Era', while triple-time closing cut 'Wahr Ist Sie Dann' is an odd, alien-sounding treat.

Selected EP
Cat: KNTXT 002. Rel: 28 Nov 19

Techno
Selected (8:02)
Form (7:53)
Time (7:50)
Amar (2:32)
Review: Charlotte de Witte is at the forefront of the harder techno revival. After big outings on Mary Go Wild and Novamute she is back on her own KNTXT label - which is also a touring party concept - for four more bangers. Searing acid lights up the cantering drums of opener "Selected" and that continues on "Form" with its undulating lines and relentless drums. "Time" is still laced with acid, but in a softer, more hypnotic style that locks you in a trance. "Amar" shows another side, closing out with some thoughtful ambient bliss.

Heart Of Mine EP
Cat: SUARA 303. Rel: 11 Apr 18

Techno
This (7:40)
Hear Of Mine (7:43)
This (Lewis Fautzi remix) (5:31)
Review: Charlotte De Witte has been threatening to break into the big time ever since her earliest releases on Tiga's Turbo label back in 2015. Following a prolific 2017 in which she released a string of acclaimed EPs, the Belgian producer makes her first appearance on Spanish imprint Suara. Check first the relentless, full throttle techno heaviness of A-side "This" - think foreboding voices, constantly building drum machine percussion and occasional creepy electronics - before turning your attention to the strangely beguiling "This Heart of Mine", where solo vocal snippets echo over another bombastic rhythm track. To round off a fine EP, Lewis Fautzi delivers an intoxicating rework of "This" that's in the same sonic ball park as Kowton's remix of Throwing Shade's "Chancer" on Happy Skull.
