Pinzells (12")
Cat: NADO 004. Rel: 03 Sep 13

Balearic/Downtempo
Joan Bibiloni - "Pinzells"
Coyote - "San Raphael" (Flamenco Guitar by Saro Tribasone - original mix)
Coyote - "San Raphael" (Rune Lindbaek & Oyvind Blikstad remix)
Review: Moonboots and Boardman's Aficionado label continues its sun-kissed sermons with this very special homage to the nylon six string. Famed Spanish guitarist Joan Biblioni lays down the roots of Balearica with this incredibly laidback web of twangs and ripples. Coyote echoes the same sentiment over a slightly more prominent beat and synth textures. Finally Rune Lindbaek and Blikstad provide their own Nordic twist where the guitar is eschewed for synth twinkles. Beautiful stuff.

People Take It Too Seriously (4:42)
We Got Lost (5:57)
Beltane (4:32)
Show Me (3:47)
Cirrus (5:20)
Review: The latest mini LP from Coyote sees them continue to explore the realms of emotionally charged electronic music. From dreamy horizontal soothers to more ecstatic uplifting refrains. 'Both Gone' is an embrace from the sun as it sets gently into the horizon, 'People Take It' is an early afternoon watching the shimmering sea with a mint tea, 'We Got Lost' is a cautioning tale to all, 'Beltane' a celebratory Pagan dub, 'Show Me' is a poolside midday smiler, 'Cirrus' is an ecstatic sunrise anthem. So hurry up, and Live!

Coyote Special Editions

Balearic/Downtempo
Kate's Bush (Nocturnal edit) (5:37)
Kool Kats (7:10)
Lee Sure (Black Hashish dub) (5:26)
El Verano (4:31)
Review: The Coyote lads take a moment to chill from their ever-steady output on their Is It Balearic? label to drop this pearler for the Magic Wand edit series. It won't take a private gumshoe to work out the source material for 'Kate's Bush (Nocturnal Edit)', but you won't have heard the original simmering quite like this brooding version before. 'Kool Kats' is dripping in yacht rock delight with Mercurial vocal trysts over the top, while 'Lee Sure (Black Hashish Dub)' takes things far out into pure sundown wind-down territory. 'El Verano' completes the set with a beautiful, dusty lick of 70s funk, complete with sultry trumpet and the lightest of FX touches.

Simpson's Sky (Dan Lissvik remix) (7:05)
Copacetic (Reverso 68 remix) (4:46)
The Outsider (Calm Mellow Acid dub remix) (7:57)
Cami Sa Valeta (Massey's Balearic Trance remix) (7:13)
Review: Is It Balearic finally offer up four cuts from Coyote's fantastic The Mystery Light album. First up is Dan Lissvik on the remix of 'Simpsons Sky' with its loose-limbed Balearic drum funk and tropical synth work. Then come Reverso 68 who layer in some superb arpeggiators for the silky piano sounds of sunset gem 'Copacetic.' Japanese downtempo boss Calm brings his signature mellow acid lushness to 'Outsider' and last of all Chris Massey reworks Coyote's 'Cami Sa Valeta' which was a tribute to Tony Pike. Here it is a go-slow, blissed out and cosmic star-gazer.

Baka Re-Rub (4:41)
No Entry (6:43)
Review: Last year's 'Will We Ever Dance Again' 12" was a big one for Coyote who now follow it up and impress once more. First up they do so on 'Baka Re-Rub' by paying their respects to the iconic Jon da Silva remix of The FADS track. It's steamy, tropical, full of loose drum energy and jangling synths that lightened up any club. On the flip you find 'No Entry' which is a big house anthem plenty of classic tops, uplifting arpeggios and pianos, and dramatic strings next to big acid lines. It's an all out, hands in the air gem that brings the good times.

The Outsider (3:14)
Review: Surely one of the most dedicated, consistent outfits in the contemporary Balearic scene, Coyote return with another album of exquisite, open-hearted grooves to take you somewhere sunny. The Mystery Light is the group's sixth album no less, and it shows their powers as producers and composers growing exponentially. The scope is broad, from laconic acid wiggles to New Age reveries, and of course with a consistent 80s flavour running throughout in so many of their production choices. As well as accurately embodying the spirit of great 80s studio magic, they're also versed enough in the language to express themselves in a unique way, imbuing every piece with character and charm to ensure these jams clamp on to your heart and stay there.

Will We Ever Dance Again/As Above

Will We Ever Dance Again (6:49)
As Above (6:01)
Review: If you need a little pick me up as the weather gets colder, darker and wetter, then stick this new now from Coyote on your turntable and feel your woes drain away. It is another classy offering from Is It Balearic across two sides of proudly Balearic-influenced house music. You can picture the scenes when this will go down best - as the sun sinks into the sea in India or Croatia, with a happy and smiling crowd ready for the daytime vibes to make way for something a little naughtier. 'Will We Ever Dance Again' is pure celebratory joy, with swirling chords rising ever higher like a heat haze, then 'As Above' gets playful with squelchy acid, steely drums and a great sense of bounce.

Wonderful (7:18)
Cafe Con Leche (5:49)
Review: As the winter beats a hasty retreat, we're very much ready for a fresh dose of Balearic goodness, and who better to serve it up than Coyote? This new five tracker gives us exactly what our souls are in need of - laconic grooves lingering in an eternal sunset reverie with rock solid rhythm matched by a loose, organic flow as though the tracks just breathed themselves into existence. From the heavy-lidded dream of 'Return To life' to the super-smooth lounge pop of 'Save Me', the meditative mantra of 'The Eagle & The Snake' to the slick, catchy 'Wonderful', this is Coyote doing what Coyote do best.

Shimmer Dub (Woolfy vs Projections mix) (5:31)
Ranura De Marihuana (Max Essa remix) (5:40)
Review: Coyote offer up some of their wares to the Balearic gods for this remix excursion. Hardway Brothers get two chances to exercise their dubbiest tendencies over 'Sun Culture', leaning in on the live bass and losing themselves in a swimming pool of delay for the heaviest lidders to get blissed-out to. On the flip, Woolfy and Projections face off on a version of 'Shimmer Dub' that comes on with an easy, wistful demeanour that eventually bursts to life in a rush of 80s-licked boogie abandon. 'Ranura De Marihuana' gets reworked by Max Essa, who lays the vintage synths on thick and comes up trumps.

Deep Italian (5:50)
Fresh Hope (4:46)
Take Me Back (5:38)
Long Board (5:35)
Review: The Is It Balearic? train just keeps on rolling as Coyote proffers up even more refined grooves from the heart of the dreamy island dance. "Deep Italian" channels the spirits of classic sensual deep house that clearly nods to the likes of Vibraphone Records for inspiration, while "Fresh Hope" creates a more bewildering experience with interloping melodies and a more insistent beat underneath. "Take Me Back" uses plucked string motifs to weave its own enchanting message, while "Long Board" gets a more plush line in synths to work to round the EP out.

Cala Conta Sunset (6:18)
Review: UK duo Coyote have shaped out an entire soundworld of their own devising with their Is It Balearic? label, and they return with their fifth album in an appropriately hazy, sunkissed blur of heartfelt organic grooves that capture that elusive Ibizan dream perfectly. "Natural Way" balances subtle acid flecks with pattering percussion and soothing pads while "Herbal Remedy" cools things down to a gently finger-picked murmur. The likes of "No Time To Play" reach skywards with yearning arpeggios and rousing drum lines while "Cala Conta Sunset" makes for the perfect ambient album closer. Whichever way you turn on Song Dogs, the rich musicality and meditative atmosphere of Coyote has never sounded fresher.

The Cats Asleep
Review: A highly distinguished long player from Nottingham based duo Coyote, who have carved their own inimitable sonic niche following a succession of fine EPs (and one previous album, 2009's Harlyn Bay) on their Is It Balearic? Imprint alongside the odd dalliance with International Feel. Importantly, their second album, Half Man Half Coyote, never drowns in a sea of sameness, largely thanks to a nice variety of instrumentation, tempos and vocalists. Alongside each slice of instrumental bliss, there's the melodic hip-hop of "Safari Man" and woozy horizontal charm of spoken word opener "Keep Breathing". Clearly an album with its heart in the White Isle - all you have to do is close your eyes, listen, and you'll be there too.

Electric Sunburst (Phoreski remix)
Pacific Breeze (Tony Watson B-Boy chillout remix)
Childhood Melody (Peter Visti remix)
Too Hard (Aeroplane remix)
Review: Ahead of a Moonboots compiled Best Of CD due out later this year, Is It Balearic? bosses Coyote indulge in some advance celebrations to toast a fine year, with some of their more celebrated peers and contemporaries invited to remix tracks from their plump back catalogue. Phoreski already retains the honour of participating in the inaugural Is It Balearic? release, and here he adds some slow burning menace to "Electric Sunburst" from the 2009 Harlyn Bay LP. This is complemented by a refix of "Pacific Breeze" from Adult Contemporary's Tony Watson that retains the languid feel of the source but slips in a nice retro MPC thrust. On the flip, Peter Visti tackles "Childhood Memory", an as yet unleashed Coyote jam which contrasts nicely with the inclusion of Aeroplane's elegant rework of "Too Hard" from all the way back in 2007!

Marijuana (6:34)
Review: A case of things turning full circle if ever there was one, as Rolo McGinty of The Woodentops fame - the indie stars who discovered raving and then featured on the very first Balearic Beats collection - teams up with Coyote for a one sided 12" for Is It Balearic. Well, if this isn't, then nothing is! The title should be a clue to its sentiments, paying homage to the laughing herb that is 'Marijuana' and in particular, partaking in its delights in the shade on a hot day. McGinty delivers a deep, resonant vocal and some very cool acoustic strumming, while the Coyote boys do the slow motion beat shuffling. Anthemic glory.
