Bass
  1. Jungle Dippa (4:13)
  2. Ring The Alarm (4:43)
Review: System-shaker Madd returns to his vinyl only 1 Drop imprint with two slick slices of modern day jungle funk. "Jungle Dippa" is a deep, rolling tribal affair with elements of Madd's early dubstep swagger coded into the groove by way of various downpitched humanised elements. "Ring The Alarm", as you might be able to tell from the title, flexes a classic Tenor Saw vocal with monstrous effect. Essential vinyl only business.

Deep Dubstep
  1. Simon Says (4:47)
  2. Shine Eye (dub) (5:51)
Review: For someone who started releasing in 2008, Peter Simon aka DJ Madd has put out an impressive amount of material, and his singular strain of dubstep is never shy of excellent, ad always close to brilliant. With this latest two-pronged beat, Madd takes Pharaoh Monch's "Simon Says" tune and morphs it into a slow, swelling bass melter for the Room 2 dwellers. Over on the flip, DJ Madd goes into more ritualistic territories with a reinterpretation of a dubwise scorcher, fitting in perfectly into sets with anything by the likes of Mala.

Footwork/Juke
  1. Kingdom (4:45)
  2. Brooklyn Rudeboy (5:11)
Review: The USA-based, Hungarian-born DJ's sound is diversifying as he harkens back to the bone-shaking basslines and the lowest sonic lows associated with his classic dubstyle production. On both "Kingdom" and its B-side "Brooklyn Rudeboy", Madd experiments with an unorthodox tempo given his 140bpm background. Using elements reminiscent of Drum and Bass, Jungle and Footwork, he combines 808 bass and rolling snares with his hallmark sound inspired by Reggae Dub and sound system music.

  3. Spcl Rqst (5:26)
  4. Duppy (4:44)
Review: Nomadic low-end lothario DJ Madd clambers up on Om Unit's Cosmic Bridge for his latest extended player. "Dredlok" is a pensive 808 slapper with a warm one-note bassline and rolling faraway drum work. "Rum Punch" delves deep into the digidub discourse with crisp MIDI instrumentation and mildly cosmic arpeggios. "Spcl Rqst" is a torch song for the dungeon massive with tripped out shades of juke on the vocal stutters while "Duppy" kicks us back into the current future jungle mindset on a carriage made of pure titanium dub. Punchy.

  1. Gangsta 4 Life (Dark mix) (4:14)
  2. Gangsta 4 Life (Steppa mix) (5:10)
Review: Taking the same Mavado sample Coki famously destroyed the last decade with, DJ Madd adds a whole new level of heaviness with rolling tribal drums, tubular bass tones and a droning pad that's so paranoid it's in danger of being sectioned. Flip for the Steppa remix; sunnier on the surface, thanks to its heavy organ play and cheekier bass runs, there's still a world of darkness to unfold when played on the right system. Timeless for life.

Cat: 1DROP 003. Rel: 17 Mar 15
Deep Dubstep
  1. 1 Spliff (5:35)
  2. Marijuana (5:38)
Review: Premium version excursionist Madd sparks up and cracks his green fingered knuckles for the third 1Drop outing. "1Spliff" is pure Billy Boyo badness, all swinging percussion, bulging bass and a hook use of the vocal sample. "Marijuana" retains the hazy theme with a deft nod at Linval Thompson. More musical and dub-minded that the dancefloor hurter on the A-side; this will keep the evil away at the strike of a match. Keep on rolling.

Deep Dubstep
  1. I-N-I
  2. Burnin Dance
  3. Gunshot Riddem
Review: Following some legendary appearances on Lion Charge, Madd returns to the darker side with three killer peak timers on his own Roots & Future imprint... "I-N-I" is a Truth-style pummeller with overwhelming subs, rolling drums and big bass gurgles on the eights. "Burnin Dance" fires up with a great vocal sample and echoes of melodica before dropping into some serious low-end darkness. "Gunshot" follows a similar suit... Plunging sub drops and pristine drums lay down a syncopated jam that can't help but make you move. Dubbed out danger, this is Madd at his most dancefloor-focused.

Review: Few producers do the future dub thing with as much authenticity and clarity as Hungarian DJ Madd. "Unfaithful Version" takes Al Campbell's "Unfaithful Children" and brings it into the next century with perfectly warm and rounded bass and crystalline drums. Proving he's got just as much soundclash muscle as he has musicality, "Clash Dub" hurtles us deep into battle with a huge bassline, war-cry vocal samples and beats so heavy they could flatten a house. Massive... And super limited. Jump on this now!

Dub
  1. Lone Soldier (dub)
  2. Thru Hell (dub)
Review: ZamZam is proud to present two exclusive tracks from Hungarian/Bristolian producer Peter Simon aka DJ Madd (now residing in Tokyo). Known worldwide for his infectious brand of roots/reggae-heavy dubstep, he has released on crucial bass-centric labels such as Moonshine, Black Box, the legendary WAR series of white labels, and his own Roots & Future imprint. DJ Madd is regularly featured on Rinse FM and BBC Radio, and has been championed by influential DJs from Mary Anne Hobbs to Skream and Breakage. "Lone Soldier Dub" showcases Simon's mastery of space and bass-weight in the service of classic dub principles. A gorgeous synth melody reminiscent of 1970s sci-fi future dreams opens and frames this instant, epic classic. The dynamic interplay of spacious reverbs and ricocheting percussion echoes, isolated skanks and absolutely massive low end are mesmerizingifamiliar in their simplicity and structure, but beguiling and hypnotic in their subtlety and system-pushing sonic clarity. A martial riddim drives "Thru Hell Dub" like a transport through a stricken, vaporized battlefield. Simon's signature gargantuan bass and syncopated, razor-sharp percussion build and release tension while a haunted synth figure accompanies us through the bleak landscape of war. As usual DJ Madd's restraint is as powerful as his control of frequencies and intuitive sense of what makes a great sound system tune. Heavy wares for your next dub dance. Edition of 500 copies in hand-printed sleeves.

  2. Follow Dub
Review: The second release on Madd's own Roots & Future imprint and it's just as deep, rich and forward-thinking as the debut in April. "Homeland" sees the Hungarian brewing up a bubbling digidub dynamic, allowing vocalist Marina P to lay down some sweet, alluring vocals. Fans of Madd's darker side should head for "Follow Dub" where smouldering subs groan insistently, a soft skank tinkles back and forth and some great percussion shimmers over the top to mesmerising effect. You'd be Madd not to pick up on this...

Review: Last seen remixing a Horace Andy classic, DJ Madd ensures the prolific prefix is in no danger of slipping with Never 2 Late, the first release on his newly helmed Roots & Future label. The Hungarian dubstepper is renowned for his heads down, gun fingers up take on the genre with output on the likes of Black Box and Wheel & Deal, Roots & Future sees him look to reggae and dub for influence and both are apparent on this debut 12". Japanese vocalist G Rina adds a delicate element to the title track, whilst the delayed horns and sirens add some dredd pressure to a heavy stepping rhythm that shudders with bass weight. Prepare yourselves for the accompanying "Murder Dub" which is dominated by a huge bass riff.

Review: Having spent the best part of five years honing his skills in Budapest and (briefly) Bristol, dubstep studio boffin DJ Madd presents his debut full-length, the decidedly murky The Real & The Shadow. Opening with the creepy, low-end strut of the title track, Madd delivers a set that variously alternates between dark room intensity, synth-laden creepiness and muscular, crowd-bating riddims. There are some notable diversions along the way - not least the soft-centred vocal cut "Deeply" and old skool rave-up "Junglist" - but these are merely odd moments of clarity amidst the paranoid, weed-stoked gloom (see the sonic paranoia of "The Life You Choose").

  2. New Reality
Review: Unsurprisingly murky excursions into terror inducing half step freak outs from DJ Madd for the Osiris Music imprint run by Kryptic Minds. "Pitch Black" - newly announced as featuring on the next Rinse FM mix from Youngsta - sees the Bristol dwelling Hungarian explore the deeper corners of the dubstep machine, with evil swirls of sub shooting out over a skeletal beat with regular drops into the sonic ether having the requisite atmospheric effect. The sense of apocalyptic dread continues on the B Side creep of "New Reality", with thick sub bass splurges and heavy cinematic touches the backdrop to a springboard percussive roll and stretched out laser drones.

Review:  Recently revisited by RSD on the Broken Beats album, Horace highlight "Cuss Cuss" gets two superb reworks from DJ Madd and TMSV. The former goes for a starker, more traditional dub vibe, allowing the original riff to play a lead role in the arrangement while the rich steppy beats drive the groove forward. TMSV flips for more of a traditional dubstep flavour with a more prominent halfstep and uglier bassline. Both versions are incredible. No cussing please...

Review: Under the expert guidance of Bristolian turntable veteran DJ ThinKing, Black Acre offshoot Blackbox has rapidly blossomed into one of the most sophisticated and forward-thinking dubstep labels around. For those unfamiliar with the label's quietly impressive back catalogue, this low price mix from DJ Madd is an excellent place to start. Alongside heavyweight tech-step burners and sub stack-shakers from the likes of N-Type, Cyrus, Phaeleh, Hatcha and Kryptic Minds, Madd showcases some genuinely fragile and beautifully melodic numbers from TMSV and himself. As a result, the mix offers a great balance between darkness and light - something rarely seen in similar dubstep exercises.
