Jungle Kitten (reissue)
Jungle Kitten (reissue) (orange vinyl 12")
Cat: DLM 010ORANGE. Rel: 20 Sep 21
Broken Beat/Nu Jazz
  1. Jungle Kitten (feat Kaidi Tatham) (7:04)
  2. Asking Eyes (feat Vanessa Freeman) (5:03)
Review: 'Jungle Kitten' by Manfredo Fest is something of an underground classic. It features the widely admired Kaidi Tatham on synth and has a fine crew of London's best musicians also involved in the line up and now it gets a cover by Da Lata that is drenched in warmth. The a-side is as organic as they come with fluid grooves and samba styles all heavily applied next to the uplifting vocals. On the flip side is another epic one for the dance floor. It is a vital version of Rafaella Renzulli's 'Asking Eyes' featuring Vanessa Freeman that at long last lands on vinyl.

Review: Long before it became fashionable to blend Brazilian music with elements of contemporary dance music, Da Lata (AKA Chris Franck and long-serving London DJ Patrick Forge) were offering up singles and albums doing just that. They've been rather quiet of late, though, with "Birds" marking their return to action after a six-year break. It's as vibrant, colourful and well produced as you'd expect, with the duo and their assembled musicians blending elements of South American and West African music with jazz, jazz-funk, electronica, soul, nu-jazz, broken beat and ambient. It's a little ray of summer sunshine on a cold, dark autumnal day.
