Review: When it was first released on CD earlier in the year, Inspirations caused quite a stir. Now available on wax for the first time, the album sees Los Angeles jazz singer Dwight Trible cover some of the songs and artists that shaped his formative musical years, with a little help from Manchester-based bandleader, arranger and trumpeter Matthew Halsall. Highlights include a rousing, near riotous cover of Nina Simone favourite "Feeling Good", a spiritual, harp-laden rendition of Hal David and Burt Bacharach's "What The World Needs Now is Love" - a radical departure from the original, featuring one of Trible's greatest vocal performances to date - and a poignant, heartfelt version of Leroy Hutson and Donny Hathaway's still relevant "Tryin' Times".

Now we're treated to a welcome reissue that sees Los Angeles jazz singer Dwight Trible cover some of the songs and artists that shaped his formative musical years, with a little help from Manchester-based bandleader, arranger and trumpeter Matthew Halsall. The Creator Has A Master Plan (5:21)
Love Is Everywhere (4:26)
You've Got To Have Freedom (6:25)
Review: Matthew Halsall's Gondwana label is seeing a busy August what with the imprint flooding our jazz charts with reissues and, of course, new releases such as this wonderful collaborative effort from The Gondwana Orchestra and Dwight Trible. Trible's voice is like silk, running up and down the delicate waves of melodies from the collective, with "Colors" and "The Creator Has A Master Plan" both capable of making the toughest of audiences feel utterly uplifted. On the flip, "Love Is Everywhere" shines bright amid a flurry of flutes and intricate drum percussions, while "You've Got To Have Freedom" rides off a much smoother, deeper sort of vibe that's got a little funk at its core. Wicked.

Review: Spiritual jazz shaman Kahil El'Zabar and his legendary Ethnic Heritage Ensemble have come together to cook up one of the most sublime tributes to the late and serious wonderful jazz trumpet innovator Don Cherry you could ever wish to hear. It features Corey Wilkes on trumpet, Alex Harding on sax and El'Zabar on percussion with the inimitable vocal tones of LA's celebrated Dwight Trible as we as Don's own and renowned musician in his own right, David Ornette Cherry. There are sketches and newly interpreted versions of Cherry classics as well as a wealth of new pieces performed in the famous Cherry style.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

Dwight Trible is a skilled jazz vocalist and activist as well as being classed as the godfather of the LA jazz scene. He has recently impressed on Gondwana and now he is back with a new album via London jazz aficionados and analog specialists Gearbox Records that builds on the critical acclaim of his last outing, Mothership in 2019. Here Trible again links up with the modern great Kamasi Washington on saxophone while LA multi-instrumentalist Georgia Anne Muldrow provides the vocals. Sitting soul, spoken word, cosmic electronic idiosyncrasies, rich melodies and avant-garde guitars all make this another classic.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeves with torn inner sleeves, but otherwise in excellent condition***

On his previous album, 2017's "Inspirations", veteran jazz vocalist Dwight Trible joined forces with Manchester bandleader Matthew Halsall to cover some of his favourite songs. Two years on, the Los Angeles-based artist returns with a set of mostly new compositions recorded with a backing band including broken beat veteran Mark de Clive-Lowe on keys (thrillingly, fellow LA resident Kamasi Washington also features on title track "Mothership"). It's an impressive album, all told, with Trible's soulful, impassioned vocals and conscious, hard-hitting lyrics providing a constant source of inspiration on tracks that are variously impressively spiritual, intensely psychedelic, delightfully uplifting and seductively soulful.
