Jazzed In Time (Chris Stussy remix)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing on outer sleeve, also the record has light surface marks/scratches, but otherwise in excellent working condition***

East End Dubs knows how to craft compelling minimal tech and house grooves from the most economical of sound pallets. He still has a sound that is all his own and manages to make you want to dance for days despite his own self imposed limitations. This new EP for Up The Stuss is another case in point. 'Holo' opens with a farting bassline under nice slick hi hats as the drums duck and dive and you do too. 'Bec's Groove' then gets more heady, with swirling pads circling round a nice vocal and nimble hits and 'Jazzed In Time' plays with more freeform chords over punchy, rubbery kicks that make you thrust your fist skyward. Chris Stussy remixes with a sense of late night cool.

It's time for another cockney knees up as East End Dubs continues his rich vein of release form this year. Following biggies on the likes of his own Eastenderz and Hot Creations come three original's on Chris Stussy's new label Up The Stuss. As always with EED, it's all about the swing as we shuffle and slide to the springy jack of 'Holo', melt away to the Jimpster-style swooning chords on 'Bec's Groove' and get whipped into shape by the sprightly, punctuated keys on 'Jazzed In Time'. Bossman Stussy throws in a warm remix of 'Jazzed' for good measure.

Whisper (7:09)
Freak (7:08)
Faze (7:08)
Review: He might not be able to play his trademark brand of swinging, UK-centric tech-house tunes to the public in clubs right now, but East End Dubz continues to serve up singles packed full of dancefloor-ready treats. His latest missive is predictably strong, particularly A-side 'Whisper'. An impressively atmospheric affair, the cut features lo-fi sounding electronic melodies rising above a chunky, hypnotizing bassline and his usual crispy, snare-heavy tech-house drums. The fun continues on the flip where 'Freak', a squelchy, acid-flecked mid-set bumper built around a limited number of teased and tweaked elements, is joined by 'Faze', which sounds like the sort of thing Sheffield sorts Swag released in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Wobble (8:09)
Slammin' (8:09)
Izit (6:38)
Review: Is East End Dubz the hardest working producer in the 21st century tech-house scene? He's certainly prolific, as his sprawling discography attests, but what's more impressive is the consistent quality of his releases. He's hit the mark yet again on this EP for his self-titled imprint. A-side "Wobble" is particularly potent, featuring as it does a fizzing fusion of insatiably funky bass, surging acid lines and shoulder-swinging beats. "Slammin" is closer in tone and style to the producer's trademark tech-house glitchiness - all mangled electronic motifs, straightened-out Villalobos drums and deep bass - while "Izit" is a tidy, acid-flecked box jam that increases in weight and intensity as the track progresses.

Review: Those within the tech-house scene know Birmingham-based TRMNL as one of Britain's most reliable regular events. While the events are of course currently on hold, the party crew has pressed ahead with the launch of their offshoot label. Release number one comes from regular guest and extended crew-member East End Dubs. He hits the ground running with "What's Goin On", a chunky, all-action affair that sees him pepper a rubbery, bass-heavy groove with fluttering synthesizer motifs and raw, razor-sharp acid lines. The fun continues on side B, where deep tech-house groover "Talk To Becky" - all elongated bittersweet chords, glitchy electronics and snappy drums - is joined by the bold, funk-fuelled late night cheekiness of "Do It R!ght".

Staines Groove (6:37)
Review: There are few more prolific producers in tech-house than East End Dubs. While this itself is remarkable, what's more impressive is the consistent quality of his regular vinyl missives. This three-tracker marks his first appearance on Hot Creations and offers another sign of the producer's growing profile. A-side "Dis" is a suitably celebratory and energy-packed affair, with East End Dubs utilising starry-eyed breakdowns, loved-up vocal snippets and sweaty snare-heavy builds between bouts of bass-heavy, garage-influenced tech-house grooves. Over on side B, "LFO" sees him pepper another booming, bass-heavy grooves with waves of razor-sharp electronics and mutilated motifs, while "Staines Groove" is an undulating affair built around ear-catching acid bass, snappy drums and stripped-back riffs.

Synthasy (8:10)
Nightingale (6:40)
Vizzle (7:29)
Review: East End Dubs keep the pressure up with another peak time belter to feed into their rapidly swelling catalogue. "Synthasy" marries snaking, nervy piano lines to a chunky tech house backbone with a fierce forward momentum, while "Nightingale" weaves a little trance bombast into the formula without over-egging those lead synths. It's a fine art to achieve that balance, and they've nailed it. "Vizzle" takes things in a more playful direction with wobbly tones and a cheeky bassline catering for those naughty moments when everyone's getting loose and having a real good time.

Review: Last year, East End Dubs ended his Social series after releasing 10 sought-after EPs in just under three years. "Social Part 2" is the second boxed retrospective of this work; while the first edition gathered together EPs one to five, this sequel boasts numbers six to ten. The 15 included tracks are all up to the prolific producer's high standards, offering an attractive late night blend of swinging tech-house rhythms, rich bass, spacey pads, intergalactic melodies and atmospheric aural textures. There's little filler or fluff, just quality peak-time grooves, occasional warm-up workouts and a sprinkling of loved-up anthems-in-waiting (see the delicious "Track 6" and glassy-eyed "Track 8").

Review: East End Dubs has carved out a reputation over the last few years as the hardest working artist in tech house. The man behind the Eastenderz and Social imprints is back on his much lauded eponymous label with some more surefire and functional grooves. "Tools Vol 10" features a collection of understated jams that are sure to work both the main room and the back room alike, peak-time or afterhours - the choice is yours. Our highlights are the rather Rominimal influenced "Track 1", the lo-fi Windy City bounce of the third track, or the swing-fuelled bass-driven funk of "Track 5". This one will earn a permanent spot in any serious DJ's record bag for sure!

Review: The hardest working producer in minimal takes time out from his esteemed Eastenderz and Social imprints, and returns to his eponymous operation for some sturdy tech-house tools that are made to play. You can bet that Tools Vol. 9 is aimed squarely at the dancefloor - and tried and tested on such. From the deep and hypnotic back room dub "Elise" on the A side, through to the rolling and mentalist faire on the flip ("Grace") and the ethereal afterhours mood lighting of "Nur" - it is yet more underground quality you have come to expect from this A.M. specialist.

Spells (10:16)
Ruby (8:17)
Review: Prolific producer and sometime Eastenderz label chief East End Dubs is back with two more top-notch tools for discerning tech-house DJs. A-side "Spells" is a bouncy roller: a smooth, groove-based excursion where deep and spacey chords and riffs wrap themselves around a restless, locked-in, early morning rhythm track. Flipside "Ruby" is altogether moodier, crunchier and low-slung in feel, with creeper electronic loops, pulsing chords and crackling textures rising above a snappier, Parisian-style tech-house rhythm track. While a little bolder percussively, it's just as hypnotic and gently mind-altering as its predecessor. If you're looking for some sturdy, mid-set material, this EP is well worth checking.

Review: Even by East End Dubs' prolific standards, Social is a seriously epic proposition. Set to showcase 30 tracks over three sizeable releases (this first instalment boasts five slabs of wax), its effectively one epic debut album split into parts. Naturally, it's not an album in a traditional sense, but rather a superb collection of dancefloor workouts in the producer's trademark style. Social Part 1, then, is like an East End Dubs starter pack: a fine collection of deep, dubby and sturdy cuts that brilliantly blend elements of deep house and tech-house. There are naturally plenty of darker, early morning moments, but pleasingly these come accompanied by a cluster of deeper and more melodious workouts.

Hope (9:12)
Review: Having bossed 2017 thanks to a wealth of top-rated 12" singles, East End Dubs is looking to push on in 2018. He begins the year as he means to go on, showcasing his tech-house wares via a rock solid two-track missive. "Hope" is notable for featuring a thrilling percussive breakdown, where restless drum machine fills increase in intensity before dropping back into the producer's swinging groove and spacey electronic textures. Flipside "Haze" is a little bolder and cheerier in tone, with East End Dubs offering to focus the action around a nagging electronic hook, rumbling sub-bass and the kind of crispy drums that reminded us of late 1990s UK garage.

Feeline (7:31)
Transient (7:39)
Review: There's no doubt that 2017 has been a stellar year for East End Dubs. We make this his seventh (and presumably final) release of the year. Perhaps we should think of this seventh volume in his long-running Tools series as a Christmas present to the DJs who have supported him over the past 12 months. Certainly, both cuts have been trimmed and tweaked impeccably to guarantee maximum late night impact. On the A-side you'll find the sparkling fluidity of "Feeline" [sic], where cut-up, effects-laden vocal samples, spacey chords and calming electronics cluster around a typically tight and rolling groove. There's a darker and more bass-heavy feel to the arguably superior flipside "Transient", a fine slab of Parisian style tech-house aimed squarely at peak-time dancefloors.

Enhance (7:15)
Review: Having built his reputation via a regular series of self-released 12" singles, East End Dubs is now beginning to make guest appearances on selected labels. Here he pops up on the long established, vinyl-only INFUSE imprint with a trio of club-ready concoctions. On the A-side you'll find "Gradual Steps", a rolling and attractive fusion of bouncy deep house drums, spacey, Motor City chord, thickset bass and glitchy tech-house flourishes. As usual, there's a wonderful swing to his drums and the stretched-out chords are hazy and evocative. You'll find more of these sumptuous pads and chord progressions on similarly-minded flipside cut "Mind Traps", while closer "Enhance" is another deep house/tech-house hybrid blessed with a notably epic breakdown.

Halfjack (8:16)
Review: Aside from a few, sporadic appearances here and there, East End Dubz has pretty much been loyal to his own imprint, through which he has solidified a house sound of his own. Number 16 in the series offers a predictably classy affair in the form of 2 club trax that are bound to sync with pretty much anything you throw at them. "Space Cadet" is a direct, no bullshit house missile made for keeping the moods and tempos at a steady pace, while "Halfjack" is more on the playful side, shooting out tidy little melodic twists amid its rawer and more off-kilter percussion.

Fat Cut (9:18)
Review: On this heavyweight vinyl EP, hyped tech-house/bass fusionist East End Dubs has decided to pay tribute to the distinctive sounds of the Roland TB-303 bass synthesizer. He begins with A-side "If You So", where undulating, on-point acid lines provide the focal point to an unfussy exploration of classic Prescription style late night deep house grooves (albeit with the rhythmic snappiness most often associated with tech-house). Flip for "Do This Thing", where more aggressive and energy-packed acid lines conjure a near psychedelic dancefloor mood, and the rubbery TB-303 bounce of locked-in shuffler "Fat Cut".

Step 414 (7:15)
Review: Bass-obsessed cockney studio don East End Dubs has been pleasingly prolific of late. This two-tracker, which follows hot on the heels of the slamming ENDZ012 EP, should excite both East End boys and West End girls. A-side "Arcane" is predictably driven forwards by bumpy, garage-influenced dubs and a wonderfully fluid sub-bass line, though it's the fluttering, near ambient chords and intergalactic electronics that naturally catch the ear. Flipside "Step 414" is an altogether deeper affair, with delay-laden bleeps and ricocheting percussion hits clustering around another speaker-shaking bassline and crispy rhythm track. It sounds like the sort of record that would sound great in a very dark warehouse at six in the morning.

Review: Tech-house's own cockney rebel, East End Dubs, has been busy of late. The master of DJ tools and rhythm-focused box jams kept up a steady stream of releases in 2016, delivering a trio of coloured vinyl treats. His first missive of 2017 comes on psychedelically inclined "splatter" pattern vinyl, but doesn't stray far from his usual musical blueprint. On the A-side you'll find "Swing Riddim", where liquid chords and spacey electronics cluster around an immaculately programmed, bass-heavy tech-house groove. B-side "Lexa Groove" is a slightly deeper and more becalmed affair, even if it does boast a more sizeable bassline and chunkier drums.

Inwards (7:14)
Review: East End Dubs' output is strong and consistent. In addition to running this successful eponymous imprint, he also runs the great Eastenderz label where he pursues the more rolling and hypnotic grooves of the Romanian scene. This is demonstrated on releases by the likes of Priku, Lizz and Nami. Here the London based producer focuses solely on his own work and pursues his first love of tough and functional house grooves; just take a listen to the dubby deepness of "Mind Over" where a swing fuelled rhythm and short vocal loops remind you of NYC attitude by legends like Kerri Chandler or Mr V. On the flip, we've got the equally functional groove of "Inwards" which rolls along with its tough drums assisted by woozy pads and an infectious yet restrained melody.

It wasn't soon after his emergence that East End Dubs founded his own eponymous label and its housed the majority of his output since then. Review: Tapping into the rude health of the minimal scene at present, East End Dubs continues his self-released series with some seriously pared down bits and pieces. "Track 1" uses a wide range of percussion to spell out its particular purpose, which is one of pure, interlocking rhythm with nowt but a taut bass hit for company. "Track 2" lets a little colour into the mix with some melancholic dubby chords quietly pulsing out across the proceedings, while the beat stays lean and dutiful so as to not confuse matters. "Track 3" rounds things out with a trickier beat and a more mysterious air, using a subtle drone to shape out the cut while avoiding getting into an overly regimented 4/4 pulse in favour of weightless broken beat shenanigans for the deepest of moments.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

The unstoppable East End Dubs launches yet another vinyl series here: introducing the first edition of the Collaborations series which features the label chief teaming up with some of the biggest names in tech house. Four cuts on this one: on the A side you've got 'Stargaze' in conjunction with Mannheim's Fabe (Salty Nuts) where they serve up some minimal boompty-funk, while C1 is with the ever reliable Sidney Charles on the hypnotic swing of 'Mental Stealth'. On side D is where it gets serious, on the moody, heads-down groove of 'Delicut' with fellow Londoner Rich NxT, and ending with the infectious afterhours bounce of 'Static Sea' with the ascendant Cuartero.

Cat: FUSE 036. Rel: 17 Jun 19

Minimal House/Tech House
E3 (7:56)
Bubbles (7:10)
Review: London's FUSE returns with more expertly curated tech house by two of the scene's major players: label staple Rich NxT and Eastenderz honcho East End Dubs. A side houses the tripped-out, tough rolling bounce of "E3" with its squelchy stabs, booming sub bass and swing-fuelled rhythms while on the flip, a fierce banger in the form of "Bubbles" which will no doubt get the crowd moving with its heady 303 acid, airy chords and locked-in drums. Note: drop at 7AM for maximum impact.
