Layover Blues (6:24)
Layover Blues (Nebraska remix) (5:50)
Review: Given their contributions to the label over the years, it's perhaps fitting that Editorial's special Record Store Day release comes from experienced re-editors and bespoke mash-up merchants Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee. There's plenty of floor-friendly fire to be found lurking on the EP, from the pumped-up, electrofunk-era disco-funk bounce of "The Need Inside", to the solo-laden funk shuffle of sax-laden groover "Dat Funk" and hip-hop tempo heaviness of "Lemonade", whose dusty breakbeats will delight hip-hop DJs. The undoubted highlight, though, is the organ-sporting peak-time chug of "Layover Blues", which is also given a dazzling, funk-fuelled house makeover by sometime Mr Saturday Night label contributor Nebraska.

Disco/Nu-Disco
Shake It Loose (7:18)
House Shaker (6:27)
Endless Love (6:25)
Sweet Love (4:42)
Review: Arriving on a most luscious tone of red vinyl, the latest Editorial 12" comes from regular contributors Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee and will prove to be of much use to any jobbing disco selectors out there. Up first, "Shake It Loose" finds Ed and Dee teasing out a cooing vocal sample and some loving Philly strings over a bumping disco beat whilst "House Shaker" sees them really working the delay and filter effects. Down below, "Endless Love" has a sultry '80s vibe to it with some silky vocals worthy of Curtis Mayfield and the lolloping grooves of "Sweet Love" more than live up to its name.

Disco/Nu-Disco
Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Shades Of Blue" (Thatmanmonkz remix) (5:50)
Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Cantina" (6:21)
Hotmood - "Chico Shake" (6:08)
Hotmood - "El-Artista" (7:04)
Review: Editorial's 28th vinyl outing is a split affair, with label mainstays Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee handling the A side and Hotmood holding court on the B. Interestingly, the standout of Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee's side is a wonderfully groovy, synth-sporting deep house re-make of "Shades of Blue" by Sheffield-based Leicester Lad Scott Moncrieff AKA Thatmanmonkz, though the head-nodding, toe-tapping chunk of jazz-funk/instrumental soul that follows it, "Cantina", is also rather good. As for Hotmood, they provide some instant party-starting vibes via the low-slung disco-funk-meets-house loop jam "Chico Shake", before exploring breezier dancefloor pastures via the flute-sporting goodness of "El Arista". In a word: solid.

Raw Funk EP (B-STOCK)
Cat: ED 027 (B-STOCK). Rel: 11 Sep 19

Disco/Nu-Disco
The Funk District - "An Evening With El Diablo"
Matt Hughes - "Get Down"
Cody Currie - "Aquarian Girl"
The Owl - "Funky Feelin"
ED Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Slippin"
Review: ***B-STOCK: Record warped with very light surface marks/scratches, but otherwise in perfect working order***

More good value goodness from the Editorial label, one of the few re-edit focused outfits that manage to retain a high level of consistency. The Funk District kicks things off with a fine re-arrangement of an organ and electric piano-focused chunk of sweaty dancefloor soul ("An Evening With El Diablo"), before Matt Hughes gets busy with some elastic slap bass on flash-fried disco-funk revision "Get Down". Elsewhere, Label regulars Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee dip the tempo on the slow and seductive "Slippin", the Owl stomps his way through the P-funk style heaviness of "Funky Feelin" and Cody Currie offers up a hazy sample-house cut rich in jazzy flourishes and warm electric piano chords.

Disco/Nu-Disco
Toomy Disco - "Pushin'"
Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Magnificent"
Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Ridin'"
S - "Happiness Speaks"
Suonho - "And I Love You"
Review: The second drop on the fledgling Editorial imprint arrives with an even more packed line-up proffering diced up arrangements that nestle comfortably between disco and house. The Buenos Aires dwelling Romanian known simply as Toomy Disco seems to be on a weekly release schedule at the moment, and his contribution to this 12" sets the tone perfectly. "Pushin'" wraps an infectious vocal hook and guitar riff deep beneath a fully flexing disco house arrangement primed for play in the more discerning discotheques, and is complemented by a double drop of Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee goodness. Anyone with a cursory knowledge of disco history will recognise the familiar strains of "Magnificent" whilst the delay heavy "Ridin" dares to venture where Todd Terje has done before. Suonho has the B Side to himself for two cuts that operate on a more laidback level, with the skittering beatdown Beatles cover "And I Love You" particularly fine.

Ed Wizard & Double Disco Dee - "Spirit Power" (6:13)
Duff Disco - "Burning Hot" (6:05)
Hotmood - "I Was Born In Mexico" (6:18)
Alex Zuiev - "I Feel Funky" (6:23)
Review: While most Editorial EPs feature contributions from a range of high-flying re-editors, their latest collection of cuts boasts a particularly star-studded line-up. For example, it features a now rare outing from Jeremy Duffy under the familiar Duff Disco alias, a gently rolling disco-soul revision called "Burning Hot" that underpins a suitably glassy-eyed cut with his trademark soft-touch house drums. More up-tempo fare can be found on side B, where Hotmood's disco-funk rearrangement "I Was Born In Mexico" - think restless slap bass, eyes-shut guitar solos, bouncy drums and rising horns - is joined by the razor-sharp disco-funk sweatiness of Alex Zuiev's "I Feel Funky". Arguably best of all, though, is Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee's woozy, sample-heavy disco roller "Spirit Power".

Disco/Nu-Disco
Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Peoples Groove" (7:53)
Matt Hughes - "Sunshine" (6:11)
The Owl - "Pimp Talk" (6:38)
Rahaan - "Fine Feelings" (7:30)
Review: Editorial Records return with more disco infused flavours from around the world. These four nice and slow re-edits are sure fire weapons for any disco DJs crate. Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee take on Brass Construction much like Venus did on Sunshine People 15 years ago for another nice re edit. Matt Hughes' "Sunshine" is an equally good effort; wait for the drop! "Pimp Talk" by The Owl retains the sleazy grooves of the original and Rahaan's take on fine boogie workout 'Feeling Fine' does the business, as always.
