Review: Death Waltz's latest soundtrack reissue sees them look to Lucio Fulci's '80s video nasty The New York Ripper, a Giallo horror film whose psychopathic knife-wielding killer sports a grotesque duck voice. In keeping with the strangely camp tone of the film, Francesco De Masi's score is one that combines elements of disco funk and Latin music into something uniquely unsettling, and is described by the label as managing "to capture the sleazy pre-Disney clean up of New York perfectly." As with all Death Waltz releases, the bespoke artwork is worth the price alone, with Nick Percival's sleeve playing up the grotty charity shop resting place of most similar video nasties of the era.
