James Duncan - "Untitled #2" (7:14)
G Marcell - "Peace Awaited" (6:58)
Gari Romalis - "We Here" (6:52)
Satore - "Tribute To The Roots" (extended mix) (5:53)
Review: Spreading their reach with a various artists release for their fifth bout, the Hizou Deep Rooted crew have a clear vision of the kind of heavy-lidded, keys-rich house music they want to push. James Duncan is in fine form with the hooky looping and sturdy groove of "Untitled #2", while G Marcell lets the Rhodes lead the way in the light and airy funk of "Peace Awaited". On the flip Gari Romalis brings a rougher kind of sound that leans heavy on the dusty drums to create an intense, slow burning atmosphere, leaving it to Satore to finish off with some killer keys played in a subtle style that makes "Tribute To The Roots" an unmissable gem on the end of the record.

The Silver Rider - "Madness" (6:39)
Folamour - "When She Moves, I'm Moved" (7:41)
Gari Romalis & Lello Di Franco - "Luv Game" (6:53)
Review: In tribute to Record Store Day, the Diggin Disco Deep crew has put together what could be its tastiest 12" yet. Pressed on squeaky clean white vinyl, volume five in the series boasts cuts from some of the edit scene's best-loved talents. Lipski kicks things off with the blissfully wavy loops and languid Balearic house grooves of "Magical Luv", before the Silver Rider hits the mark via the softly spun nu-disco goodness of "Madness". On the flip you'll find EP highlight "When She Moves, I'm Moved" by Folamour, a sax-laden shuffle through deep house/disco fusion that sneakily pays tribute to a wedding party favourite, and the head-in-the-clouds deep house bump of Gari Romalis and Lello di Franco's "Luv Game".

Isaac Prieto - "Late Night" (6:20)
MGUN - "Shadows" (6:51)
Review: After just over two years out of the game, the overlooked Detroit Vinyl Room label - a stable previously responsible for unleashing some superb deep house - has finally sprung back into action. The Collision EP is a multi-artist affair with many must-check highlights, with our picks including the drowsy, tech-tinged late night deep house hypnotism of 'Stick An Move (Cobo Mix)' by Gary Romalis, the distant, jackin'-in-space acid squelch of Jnn Apprl's 'Insecure Alien', the ultra-deep and trippy, early morning haziness of Isaac Prieto's brilliantly odd and angular 'Late Night', and the horizontal, sofa-bound instrumental hip-hop of MGUN's blazed 'Shadows'. Recommended.

Review: There is something about good, well made house music that will never go out of fashion - its combination of heart and soul with mid-tempo drums that tap into our primal urge to dance pulls us in over and over and as soon as the first bars of the first tune on this EP play out you are reminded of those facts. They are not particularly grown breaking but that doesn't make them any less irresistible. Gare Romalis's Detroit-inspired sounds go from seductive and vocal to bumping and hi-tek via celebratory and futuristic. Great EP.

Underground Rail Road (Deep Path mix) (7:05)
Dance 2 Nite (Strobe Light mix) (7:14)
Angel N Kzoo (Dr A Webb mix) (7:03)
Trax Animation (Dirtee mix) (6:48)
Review: Although not as celebrated as many of his Motor City contemporaries, Gari Romalis has put out a lot of very good music since he made his debut way back in 1995. Here the Detroit veteran makes his debut on I've Seen The Future with a quartet of quality deep house cuts. That means spacey sounds and properly deep grooves aplenty, as well as some late-night hypnotism (see the deliciously warming 'Dance 2 Nite (Strobe Light Mix)' and the haziness of 'Angel N Kzoo (Dr A Webb Mix)'. Our picks of an extremely strong bunch are opener 'Underground Rail Road (Deep Path Mix)', a kind of late 90s Chez 'N' Trent style gem, and the early morning eccentricity of 'Trax Animation (Dirtee Mix)', where looped melodic motifs cluster around a deep bassline and crunchy beats.

What I Do (7:14)
Review: After over 30 years of DJing in Detroit, releasing numerous EPs and double singles, Romalis has created another pure deep house cut. Possessing all the hallmarks of the Detroit deep house scene, the samples in 'Elektrik' and 'Feet don't fail me now (Delic Anthem Mix)' are nothing short of magic. The techno and house DJ is cited as having influenced and trained Detroit's finest, and it's easy to see why. Despite being only 4 tracks, Disco Tech is a cohesive, anthemic slice of the scene, showing off the talents of the scene's greatest legends. The high hats and funk grooves in the closing track 'What I Do' are nothing short of masterful. This is, after all, what he does.

Purpose Reprise (Motivate mix) (6:34)
Review: Detroit legend Gari Romalis is as productive as ever, offering up a strain of deep house that feels classic without trading on past glories. In a year when he's collaborated with DJ Minx on Women On Wax, landed on Just Jack, Wild Circus and Secret Society, he's now rubbing shoulders with Boo Williams, Orlando Voorn, Vincent Floyd and more for breakthrough Italian label NICEPEOPLE. There's quality oozing out of every bar of this EP, but 'Black Diamondz (Africa Mix)' is especially classy, capturing a subdued but purposeful mood which rightly turns the mind to the empowered theme of the record. Don't sleep on 'Purpose Reprise (Motivate Mix)' either, in which the pointed speech samples give you food for thought atop another of Romalis' impeccable groove.

Concrete Jungle (Society mix) (7:03)
Motor City (6:55)
Review: Nice to see Gari Romalis getting his dues. The underrated Detroit producer who has been producing since the mid '90s has been picked up by Chilean imprint Secret Society here. While their material is usually on the minimal tip, Romalis' style is nonetheless a good match as heard on the Detroit Underworld EP. 'Unorthadox' is a funky and low slung serving of mood music, receiving a remix up next by Irishman Derek Carr who takes the track further into hi-tech soul territory, while the dark and dubby subterranean vibe of 'Concrete Jungle' (Society mix) takes things deeper into the late night. Over on the flip, Romalis closes out in style with the emotive feelings of 'Motor City'. Tip!

Review: Bristol party and label Just Jack welcome unsung Detroit hero in the form of Gari Romalis. He brings all the sounds you'd expect of a Motor City artist - depth, soul and warmth. 'Panic In Detroit' (Goos Life Mix) is a mid tempo jam that will warm up early evening floors. 'Final Fronteer' (Brain Block mix) is a deep and cuddly cut with hip swinging claps and splashy hi hats and last of all comes the best fo the lot, 'Hard Rain.' It has smooth drum loops that rock back and forth and draw you in beneath balmy cosmic pads and far-sighted sense of melancholy. This is tasteful, subtle dance music for the heads.

I Stabb (D1 mix) (7:17)
Review: Detroit maestro Gari Romalis is back on Sudd Wax after launching the label back in 2017, and he's got plenty of coal in the furnace as he cooks up a moody dub style on the killer "Windy Mix" of "Detroit Metro Terminal". The actual "dub mix" of the track takes things even further down into the depths of the subconscious, with a gorgeous chord drop underpinning the whole thing. "Land Of Oblivian" marks out its own space in the echo chamber, albeit with brighter drums on display, while the D1 mix of "I Stabb" makes the chords take on an extra resonant tone as they ping about in the sound bath.

Abstraxx (Linear mix)
Dark Ryda (Sunset mix)
Heat (Bout That Life mix)
Review: Sudd Records has been going for some time as a digital-only label, but now they make the leap to vinyl with the help of Detroit champ Gari Romalis. "Abstraxx (Linear Mix)" kicks off the record in a heady fog of undulating pads, the smoke positively drifting out of the speaker cones over a simple, deep-as-you-like drum pattern. "Dark Ryda (Sunset Mix)" gets a little more funk in its rhythm, but the same mellow mood prevails, almost reaching dub techno levels in its atmospheric chord swells. "Heat (Bout That Life Mix)" takes things out of the darkness and into a lighter frame of mind, but Romalis is still firmly in the deep end of the deep house pool with this final cut on the record.

Worx N Progress (7:17)
Review: From Detroit to Marseille, Gari Romalis makes his debut on Modelisme as he continues to deal some of the highest grade deep house to come from the motor city right now. "Vibe" has a warm hazy pump running throughout as ebb and flow textures wash gentle over the top with trippy disarmament. "Go" hits with an old school riff that'll have you from nought-to-looking up derelict warehouses and organising raves in 30 seconds. Finally "Worx N Progress" activates Gari's shuffle side with clipped beats and infectious dubby ripples. Essential.

Review: Gari Romalis has been around on the Detroit scene since 1995 but surprisingly its only been since 2012 that his release schedule has become so prolific and in that time has releases everywhere from Detroit Dancer and Skylax to Bosconi and Rawax to name a few. Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani step in to deliver an absolutely storming remix of "The Drive" that is Motor City technosoul at its absolute finest. On the flip, the evocative vibes continue on "Water" (Goin Street mix) with its dusty drums contrasted by lush pads and those gorgeously hypnotic keys creating and altogether quite impressive groove by an underrated hero of the scene.

Review: They may be based in London, but the newly minted Anma Records clearly want to be seen as an international label with their debut release coming from Detroit's Gari Romalis. Dip into his background, and you'll see Romalis lives and breathes techno, spinning regularly at Tresor, working for Transmat, and managing Detroit's famous Buy Rite Records. Producing has been something Romalis has latterly embraced and his arrival on Anma comes after a series of 12"s issued over the past two years. With a title like The Vision Of Rhythm it's no surprise to find Romalis turn in four tracks that demonstrate his skills for crafting a groove, with the bucking payback mix of "Choice" a real highlight.

Review: After some time spent in anonymity, Gari Romalis' time has surely come and recent appearances for Hizo Deep Rooted Music and Dockside have brought the Detroit-based producer back into the limelight. On this turn for Rawax "The Blitz (Data Mix)" comes on with all the grit you'd expect of the Motor City, rocking a chunky, bouncing rhythm and some dusty, filtered samples beefed up and honed for maximum floor damage. "G Dub (Dark Park Mix)" meanwhile wriggles into a deeper framework comprised of a bugging bass synth, cool and deadly chords and yet more of that addictive Romalis bump. This is as sturdy a kind of club tackle as you could ever wish for.

First Love (Late Night Breakdown mix)
Review: Intermittent producer Gari Romalis (first seen appearing in 1996 before re-emerging last year) follows on the fine form of Rick Wade and DJ Aakmael to drop the fourth instalment for Hizou Deep Rooted Music. As you might expect, low slung house is the order of the day with a focus on samples running through errant filters and steadfast rhythms, all shot through a blue-eyed hue. "Dance Demo" lets the drums do the talking and keeps the musical elements to a minimum, whilst "Pray" gets a touch more soulful with a sweet bass lick and distant chord that gets cut through with a crunchy clap. "Detroit Shuffle" has a disco pulse running through its veins even as the drums bump and hustle in a divine, rugged funk, while "First Love" heads into a more driving refrain that simmers in all the right places.

Under his moniker 'Detroit Soul Factory', three tracks of motor city chaos are presented in a simple track-by-track deluge. It contains originals, and one remix by ZKY, one half of the techno duo Cab Drivers. Chord-sweeping, breathable dub is the name of each track's game; 'Walk' is our fave, while ZKY's adds electric, stop-start, stereo bounceability.

Da Plant (4:03)
Review: Paris' excellent Dockside Records is back with another total winner, once again from Detroit's Gari Romalis, who appears here under his electro-minded DJ SCSI moniker. "7 Miles" is some pure Michigan heat, thrashing out raw, distorted bass sonics over a minimal, stripped-back beat groove that has Roland written all over it! The B-side features "Da Plant", a more house-minded nugget that still retains much of Romalis' industrial outlook, and that inimitable machine movement that can only come from a city like Detroit. Two burners, one ten inch, and some gnarly bass vibes.

Review: With label staple Divinti making an appearance this week on Stump Valley's latest EP, we're very happy to see Women On Wax Recordings serving up a new release to follow up last year's Violet Groove EP by label owner DJ Minx. It's an entirely Detroit affair once again, where she teams up with local scene veteran Gari Romalis (aka DJ SCSI) for this split release - Tronic D. On the A-side, Romalis serves up some serious attitude on the late night basement wall shaker 'Stomp Da Yard', followed by more sensual mood music on 'Goin' Down'. On the flip, Minx does deeper with the hypnotic chords of 'Stiletto Stroll' and the jazzed-up minimal house groove of 'Cocktail Or Two' where she nails that perfect afterhours vibe once again. Tip!

Review: There's something delightfully simple about the formula behind Descendents of the Deep's From Chicago To Detroit series, which predictably aims to bring together top-notch deep house from the Windy and Motor cities. This second installment begins with JF's previously unheard re-edit of Gari Romalis' 1995 cut "Butcher's Choice", a righteous lesson in bumpin', New Jersey-influenced deep house. It's followed by a typically emotionally-rich Larry Heard dub of Jordan Fields' 1994 cut "Lifted My Soul", before Maxi Aubert combines Heard style analogue deepness with rich, Motor City electronics on "Message In The Box". Elsewhere, there's a new JF edit of Gene Hunt's throbbing 1987 jack-jam "Native", and a wonderfully broken chunk of techno/house fusion from Africans With Mainframes.
