As always their broken beats and magical musical interplay are on full show with pianist Chris Illingworth's classically-styled melodies next to the dance energy of the bas from Nick Black and stickman Rob Turner. Plenty of rich structural and harmonic ideas are explored in free form here with this version coming on gatefold translucent light green vinyl.

Review: Those who followed the evolution of GoGo Penguin since their 2013 breakthrough album V2.0 will already be familiar with 'Garden Dog Barbecue', a floor-friendly slab of ear-pleasing exuberance that first appeared on "45" a few years back. Here the track is given a much-needed clear vinyl reissue, backed with the laidback, piano-rich loveliness of 'Hopopono'. While that's good, 'Garden Dog Barbecue' is even better, with the Manchester combo adding bold, ear-catching piano riffs - tracked instinctively by Nick Blacka's double bass - to a typically sweaty, skittish breakbeat. It remains one of the trio's most effortlessly effective dancefloor numbers and is genuinely worth picking up.

Review: Since joining Blue Note in 2016 on the back of a rising reputation as one of contemporary British jazz's most exciting outfits, GoGo Penguin have delivered a pair of genuinely must-have albums. Two years have passed since the last, so this self-titled full-length is undoubtedly long overdue. As with its predecessors, it's a wonderfully vibrant and thrill-a-minute affair, with the trio delivering unfurling epics full of twinkling, action-packed piano solos, infectious rhythms and fluid, ambidextrous acoustic bass. The influence of 21st century dance music culture is obvious throughout, despite the Manchester threesome never straying from the confines of the traditional jazz trio (drums, bass, piano). Review: Back in 2015, jazz/electronica fusionists GoGo Penguin wrote and performed a live soundtrack to Godfrey Reggio's cult 1982 documentary "Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance". It was such a success that they have since performed the soundtrack live all over the world, and here deliver a fine mini-album inspired by their original "re-score". It's as vibrant, emotion-rich and stirring as you'd expect, with opener "Time-Lapse City" providing a dazzling mixture of intensely positive and restless pianos, bustling jazz drums and smooth double bass, "Ocean In A Drop" brilliantly growing in intensity throughout thanks to a superb new arrangement and closer "Nessus" sounding every bit as poignant and tear-jerking as it did when they first performed the score.
