Heart Of The Groove
Cat: HR 010. Rel: 04 Oct 21

Funk/Reissues
Heart Of The Groove (Ecstatic B-Boy remix) (4:27)
This Ain't No Game (Go! Go! Go!) (3:43)
Review: Heat Rock Records' latest double-dose of cut and paste madness is as incendiary as you'd expect, with both tracks adding elements of classic dancefloor workouts to fat beats and plenty of added percussion. Chicago's Altered Tapes handles side A, thrillingly re-imagining Dee-Lite classic 'Groove is In The Heart' by utilising more percussive elements (including a killer, cowbell-driven drum-break) from some of the tunes that the New York band originally sampled on their chart-topping house classic. B-Boys and B-Girls the world over will love it! On the flip, Bay Area native King Most combines the vocals from a Salsoul disco classic to a backing track that cleverly combines elements from a Ramsay Lewis style jazz number and a JB's-esuqe funk bomb.

Smart Calypso
Cat: RESENSE 050. Rel: 17 Sep 20

Funk/Reissues
DJARONE - "Smart Calypso" (4:50)
King Most - "Hold On I'm Coming" (3:15)
Review: It's taken them a while - 13 years in fact - but Agogo's hip-hop and soul-fired Resense offshoot has finally reached half a century of releases. As you'd expect, they've pulled out all the stops for 45 number 50, offering up a couple of confirmed floor-slayers. French DJ/producer (and label regular) Djar One handles side A, brilliantly reworking and tooling up a fiery chunk of Latin boogaloo/calypso fusion with the aid of some deliciously up-tempo, club-rocking breakbeats ('Smart Cakypso'). Over on the flip, San Francisco's King Most reaches for the delay and reverb on a tough, head-nodding and toe-tapping re-edit of Sam & Dave classic 'Hold On, I'm Coming'. They say you should never tamper with the classics, but King Most's take on this particular anthem is a genuinely brilliant alternative take.

Wind Parade
Wind Parade (limited purple vinyl 7")
Cat: REDROPPED 003PURPLE. Rel: 06 Apr 22

Hip Hop/R&B
Wind Parade (4:15)
Golden (3:59)
Review: Oonops' legendary radio show on Brooklyn Radio is a real treasure trove of musical gold from across the spectrum. King Most has guested on it many times and never failed to impress with his sound and so it makes sense he now releases on his Oonops' Oonops Drops and Resense selections via Agogo Records. This is a double sided bit of black gold with great take son two classics songs. There is the breezy 'Wind Parade' to kick off with and a take on Stevie Wonder's 'Golden Lady' on the flip that brings warm funk to any floor.

Wind Parade
Cat: RD 003. Rel: 17 Mar 22

Funk/Reissues
Wind Parade (Mosty dub 'Em Down Redirection) (4:17)
Golden (King Most Redirection) (3:59)
Review: King Most is a Brooklyn Radio regular who has made some fine outings on Oonops Drops and Resense selections via Agogo Records. Now he is back on his own label Redropped with a double-sided gem that is aimed squarely at funk loving floors. Each side is a red hot new take on a classic song and does a fine job of bring them up to date without losing any of the original charm. It is Stevie Wonder's 'Golden Lady' on the B-side that is the tune of this EP for us, with its smooth grooves and great vocals. A side soul stepper 'Wind Parade' is no dud either, though.

Turn The Music Up Marvin

Funk/Reissues
Turn The Music Up Marvin (4:44)
Hook Swing & Rip (4:01)
Review: One of San Francisco's most in-demand editors and DJs King Most lets rip with two immaculate and insatiably funky cuts, strictly on 45". "Turn The Music Up Marvin" pays homage to the soul godfather with lavish drums and disco bubbles galore. "Hook Swing & Rip", meanwhile, tips its hat to Eddie Bo in the most infectious way possible. No digital and limited to one press - this is going to fly.

Rhythm Rug
Rhythm Rug (7" + MP3 download code)
Cat: HR 005. Rel: 23 Jun 20

Funk/Reissues
King Most - "Rhythm Rug" (My Favorite edit Ever) (3:29)
Altered Tapes - "Ego Drip" (Outta This Horn remix) (4:20)
Review: If hot-to-trot and heavyweight funk re-fixes are your thing, you should already be familiar with the work of Chicago-based Heat Rock Records. Their latest limited seven-inch delivers two must-check workouts. On the A you'll find the "Rhythm Rug" edit by San Francisco scalpel fiends King Most, a cut-and-paste concoction that peppers a sunny, hip-hop tempo good-time soul-funk groove with excerpts from the acapella version of rap classic "Can I Kick It?" Over on the flip, label regulars and Windy City heroes Altered Tapes provide something even wilder: a hot-stepping fusion of Afro-jazz horns, dancehall style drums and what sound like occasional Q-Tip vocal snippets.

Jazzy As Fug
Cat: AR 134VL. Rel: 02 Apr 20

Funk/Reissues
King Most - "Jazzy As Fugg" (3:33)
Mike Clay - "Que Sera" (feat Sara Diamond) (2:18)
Slick Walk - "The Devil's Lick" (1:40)
Review: On April 6 2020, DJ Oonops will notch up his 100th show on Brooklyn Radio. To celebrate, the popular NYC DJ has partnered with Austria's Agogo records to deliver this celebratory 7" featuring three previously unreleased tracks. Side A boasts King Most's "Jazzy As Fogg", a fine chunk of instrumental hip-hop goodness rich in jazzy and life-affirming samples that reminded us a little of the kind of head-nodding dancefloor fare once released by Manchester's Grand Central Records. Side B begins with a superb neo-soul/R&B riff on classic song "Que Sera" from Canadians Mike Clay and Sara Diamond, before German DJs Stefan "Merse" Ulrich and DJ Robert Smith join forces as Slick Walk on the short, scratch happy, Fingathing style workout "The Devil's Lick".
