Multi Periodic Oscillations EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: LA 001. Rel: 14 Dec 20
Deep House
  1. Cepheid Variable (part 1)
  2. Cepheid Variable (part 2)
  3. Applegate Mechanism
Review: Alan Dixon launches his brand new label 'Love Attack' with a release from fellow North Eastern Man Power. The 'Multi Periodic Oscillations EP' is three tracks from Man Power at his curious techno best. Deep, dark and dubby, suitable for all of your 3am needs. Opener 'Cepheid Variable Part 1' is 11 minutes of twists and turns, revolving around a hypnotic groove. It's baby brother Part 2 keeps the vibes in tact with 'Applegate Mechanism' closing the EP in a straight up dancefloor fashion. Keep your eyes on 'Love Attack' with many more releases lined up for the next year.

  1. The Zen Of Xen (feat Xen - parts I & II) (12:57)
  2. Heart For Yes. Like For No (4:52)
  3. Hubris (6:39)
Review: Following up great releases recently on My Favorite Robot, DFA and Calypso, the mighty Geoff Kirkwood aka Man Power returns to Correspondant. The Mexico based composer makes a welcome return with these three truly singular trips. From the spooky, technoid tunnel vision of "The Zen Of Xen - parts I & II" featuring the seductive vocal talents of feat Xen, Kirkwood continues to impress by way of "Heart For Yes. Like For No"a neon-lit and adrenalised EBM/nu-disco mutant, while the powerful closer "Hubris" brings on those euphoric desert rave vibes - the Arp chords throughout will no doubt elevate you to a higher state.

Apologue EP
Cat: DGTL 003. Rel: 07 Feb 18
  1. The Duelist (7:28)
  2. El Mago Del Tiempo (6:40)
  3. Put Your Hands On The Car (& Get Ready To Die) (6:57)
Review: Geordie-in-Mexico Man Power has treated us to some top-notch twelves over the last few years, and this outing on DGTL is another winner. Check, in particular, opener "The Duelist", where poignant chords and decidedly Balearic piano flourishes stretch out over a stripped-back, acid-fired machine groove. Over on the flipside, "El Margo Del Tempo" is a superb fusion of creepy, horror-influenced chords, sparkling electronics and thrusting, EBM-influenced arpeggio bass, while "Put Your Hands On The Car (& Get Ready To Die)" sees the eccentric producer wrap punchy machine drums in foreboding chords and bubbly, ear-pleasing electronics.

Sonic Pressure EP
Cat: OT 029. Rel: 04 Jul 17
  1. Sonic Pressure (8:00)
  2. HDS (8:47)
Review: Berlin's Geoff Kirkwood seems to be on a steady path to underground stardom, and this latest EP for Glasgow's legendary Optimo Trax is further proof of this dude's charisma behind the mixing desk. Just as a footnote, we'd like to add that he's appeared on everything from Hivern Discs to ESP Institute and even the excellent Correspondant - the label through which he released his first album - so you might want to check his entire catalogue pretty sharpish before it all starts going for mega bucks in the near future. Man Power is the alias, and "Sonic Pressure" is the A-side to this rocking two-tracker; a steady, charging house groove is lifted into hyperspace by all sorts of polyrhythmic melodies circling the mix like merry-go-round, heading into some pretty unexpected territories by the the time we reach the second chorus. The flip, "HDS", is a vintage house stomper, filled with half-breaks to take this tune from 2D to 3D, not to mention that banging bass pouncing slowly beneath it all. Recommended!

Album Remixes
Cat: CORRESPONDANT 52. Rel: 08 Nov 16
  1. Beilsteiner (Moscoman remix) (9:27)
  2. Ten (Suade remix) (5:28)
  3. Hunting Swan (Jmii remix) (6:25)
  4. Boys Beware (Pale Blue Drum-A-Pella remix) (7:11)
Review: Berlin's Geoff Kirkwood, also known simply and boldly as Man Power, is back on France's Correspondent imprint with a series of remixes; these tunes are versions of the best cuts from his self-titled album that dropped at the tail-end of 2015. Moscoman proceeds to transform "Beilsteiner" into a wonky, euphoric house tune fit for the more daring of dance floors, whereas Suede goes for a poppy kind of vibe on his 80s take of "Ten". On Side B, Jmii heads down into the sonic abyss with his beautiful reinterpretation of "Hunting Swan", and "Boys Beware" is morphed into a minimal, progressive house excursion by Pale Blue, with his Drum-A-Pella version.

Tachyon (12")
Cat: MMM 001. Rel: 10 Oct 16
Deep House
  1. Tachyon (10:45)
  2. Tachyon (DJ Tennis remix) (10:21)
Review: Mexico-based Geordie Man Power has been on the rise for some time, picking up plaudits for the quality of his releases on Throne of Blood, ESP Institute, Hivern Discs and Correspondant. Now, he's decided to go it alone, launching the MeMeMe label as a vehicle for his own productions. "Tachyon" is something of a sleazy, late night treat, with the British ex-pat concentrating the action around a deliciously dirty, mutant Italo arpeggio, nagging electronic loops, and punchy drum machine percussion. DJ Tennis takes the track in a different direction on the flip, smothering Man Power's sleazy groove in melodious marimba lines, drowsy chords and elastic electronics.

The Tourist
Cat: ESP 055. Rel: 22 Jun 16
Deep House
  1. The Tourist (8:58)
  2. Oye (8:26)
Review: According to Lovefingers' typically eccentric sales notes, these two tracks from Man Power (AKA similarly quirky producer Geoff Kirkwood) will "put a wrench in your holiday". Kirkwood has been globetrotting a lot lately, and both cuts here sound like they were inspired by visits to hot, steamy countries. He kicks things off with the subtle positivity of "The Tourist", where swirling chords and tumbling synthesizer melodies ride a busy, bouncy, and pleasingly off-kilter, tribal drum groove. While excellent, it lacks the surging positivity, glistening Balearic touches and wonky analogue bottom-end of flipside "Oye", which sounds like an Adriatic anthem in waiting.

Thnk U (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: STAMP 007. Rel: 22 Jun 16
  1. Thnk U (9:02)
  2. Ablett (6:51)
Review: From Newcastle to Berlin via Mexico, Man Power is a man on a mission to spread the gospel of house music and he makes quite the declaration on new edit label Stamp. On the A side he takes the razor to Alicia Myer's "I Want To Thank You" keeping that filter down low until he brings the power in with glorious fashion. On the flip "Ablett" sounds like classic DJ Gregory with its soulful broken beat supporting some gorgeous and emotive elements but we're still guessing who he edits on this one. Wicked stuff from this great edits imprint yet again following some nice ones by Swazyak and more.

  1. Power Theme
  2. Power Theme (Ess O Ess remix)
  3. Le Clerc
  4. Le Clerc (The Backwoods remix)
Review: London based "Bad Passion Project", aka Chris Stoker (Ess O Ess) and Andy Bainbridge (Machete Savane), finally unveil their new record label, "Not An Animal Records".??For their first release, they present an EP from friend and frequent collaborator "Man Power" (Correspondant, Hivern Discs), featuring 2 original productions, as well as stellar remixes from "The Backwoods" aka DJ Kent (Force of Nature) & Ess O Ess.?

The first track on display is "Power Theme", a stomping and bouncing hybrid of Left-field Techno and Synth-Pop, which builds to a dramatic Italo tinged melodic climax.

Following this, the Ess O Ess remix, from Chris and Jamie Blanco, further stamps their distinctive sound, taking the track on a trip into organic techno territory.

With his second track, Le Clerc, Man Power presents yet another musical mongrel, this time with a blend of robotic, arpeggiated disco, meeting fuzzed-up and over-blown heavy rock pomp.

The Backwoods swaps the original's brashness of Le Clerc for lightness, depth and beauty, stripping the track back to its melodic components, adding percussive counter-melodies and underpinning everything with a hypnotic and pulsing house baseline.

Review: The only concrete thing we know about the Man Power outfit is that it releases some pretty heavy s***, the kind of s*** we love to get down to here at the Juno emporium. The Throne Of Blood label returns with yet more of its oddities and downright outsider flavours with "Trans", a gorgeous house tune which uses its synths to propel you off the dancefloor and into deep space; the nugget is rewired by Discodromo into more of a disco piece of the italo variety. On the flip, "Blue Suite" verges on the electro territories thanks to its rolling and twisted low-end, but thankfully we have the wonderfully gifted Willie Burns (LIES, The Trilogy Tapes) to restore the calmness and take you on a different sort of excursion.

  3. The Song With A Name
Review: After a drop on Correspondant earlier in the year, Man power returns to Hivern Discs with another forthright selection of seductive, acid-inflected house music to get right under your skin. "Renamed" is loaded with mystery and romance, from the yearning piano lines to the haunting pad tones in the background, while the beat stays limber and detailed. "Taronja" takes a slightly different route but once again the intriguing mood remains, this time spelt out by a set of chiming tones that display some serious melodic prowess over a simmering slow house beat. "The Song With No Name" drifts out at the end of the record on a thoroughly downtempo tip, drifting in laconic vocal coos and light brushes of percussion.

  1. Tistish (6:59)
  2. Nee Shitteru (7:05)
Review: Earlier this year, Man Power briefly returned to his former home, Newcastle, to make some more music with his former Last Waltz colleagues. ESP Institute boss Lovefingers was impressed by the resultant tracks and here gives them a deserved release. A-side "Tistish" is a thrillingly wonky and intoxicating affair, with exotic synthesizer melodies, bustling Italo-disco style arpeggios and fuzzy, modular style electronics joining forces to create a mind-altering dancefloor mood (think Moscoman or Red Axes covering the original 1988 version of the KLF's "What Time Is Love" whilst high on acid). Arguably even better is sleazy flipside "Nee Shitteru", where ritualistic tribal drums and ragged analogue bass create a feverish and humid mood.
