Review: Brazilian boogie lovers, this one is for you. Vontade De Rever Voce is an essential album from the pioneering Marcos Valle that was recorded when he returned to Brazil after living in the US and collaborating with the likes of Leon Ware and Chicago in Los Angeles. The album showcases plenty of the influences he picked up in America from funk and soul to jazz. For the sessions which make up this album, musicians such as Sivuca, Peter Cetera from Chicago, Robson Jorge, and Jose Roberto Bertrami from Azymuth all joined in to help elevate each tune.

Girassol (1:42)
Girassol (Playback) (1:38)
Review: 'Girassol' has long been one of the hardest-to-find gems in Brazilian great Marcos Valle's vast catalogue of sun-drenched musical treats. It was initially recorded and released as a promo-only seven-inch, with copies being handed out to customers of a Brazilian supermarket chain. This, then, marks the track's first ever commercial release. In its' original form (side A), 'Girassol' is a lusciously short, soft-focus affair - a two-minute chunk of laidback, jazz-funk influenced South American boogie bliss with the kind of high production values that you'd expect from Valle during his successful post-disco period. As with the original 7", it comes backed with the slightly more elaborate 'Playback' instrumental mix, where gentle, eyes-closed saxophone solos come to the fore.

Review: On his previous excursion for Far Out Recordings, legendary Brazilian artist Marcos Valle offered up a string of samba-soaked Latin jazz and jazz-funk gems. Here he flips the script by offering up a set of songs that recall the boogie-fired brilliance of his disco-era output. There's much to admire throughout, from the warmth of cheery opener "Olha Quem Ta Chegando" and the Azymuth style samba jazz-funk shuffle of "Odisseia", to the glassy-eyed sweetness of "Alma" and the slow and seductive grooves of "Distancia". Best of all, though, is "Vou Amanha Saber", a rousing disco-funk outing rich in weighty grooves and surging horns.

Review: Marcos Valle's second album, the 1983 self-titled masterpiece, is one of Brazilian music's many stone cold classics fusing as it does MPB, pop, soul and easy listening with plenty of American influences thanks to the artist's time living in LA. Valle's old brother Paulo Sergio and the legendary Lincoln Olivetti produced the album with a fine cast of guests like Rosana, Serginho Do Trombone, Robson Jorge and Oberdan Magalhaes adding their own vocal and musical flourishes. Standout tunes include Brazilian-boogie cult-classic 'Estrelar' (which was actually co-written by pianist, keyboardist and record producer Leon Ware) while the artwork itself is also well worthy of your attention.

Review: First released in 1966, "Braziliance!" was the album that introduced Marcos Valle to an international audience. It was heavily marketed in the United States and Europe during the bossanova craze, with Warner Brothers Records touting the composer/arranger/vocalist as Brazil's next musical megastar. As this Mr Bongo reissue proves, the album remains something of a sun-kissed classic. It features a mix of big band bossanova, infectious batacuda rhythms, summery samba workouts, Afro-Latin jazz cuts and the kind of heavily orchestrated easy listening fare that sample spotters have always enjoyed. It's a snapshot of the swinging sixties, Brazilian style, and there's no greater sound than that.

Review: Here's a serious dose of Brazilian boogie to get diggers rejoicing. Marcos Valle first released his self-titled album back in 1983, and now it's been given a generous remaster and reissue treatment from Vampi Soul. It's an album that glides from seriously funky party tracks to soft-focus ballads, with some of the sweet spots in between delivering the most memorable moments. Look no further than the slow but so damn groovy "Samba De Verao", or if you prefer something with a bit more swing then "Naturalmente" has you covered. A gold dust rarity from the annals of Latin music history given a much-deserved dusting down.

Os Grillos (Crickets Sing For Anamaria)
O Amar E Chana
E Preciso Cantar
Batucada Surgiu
Review: This EP first appeared in Brazilian stores way back in 1967, just as Marcos Valle was becoming an international singing sensation. Original copies are near impossible to find this side of Rio de Janeiro, hence high second-hand prices and the appearance of this timely reissue. The title track kicks things off via Valle's breezy vocal and a jaunty, hybrid samba/bossa-nova groove, before the Brazilian great opens his heart on the string-laden, easy listening beauty of "O Amar E Chana". There's more of a big band jazz feel to the sweet samba shuffle of "E Preciso Cantar", while horn-heavy closer "Batacuda Surgiu" has the feel of a carnival-ready dancefloor anthem in Valle's traditionally summery, easy-going style.

Review: The follow-up to his funky return to form in 1981 (Vontade De Rever Voce) Marcos's 12th album is the sound of a man with nothing to prove but raw, bare-chested boogie. Smooth, soulful and well-balanced between focus and hazy, he lets us slide and glide from sunset to sunset; the dusky disco of "Tapa No Real", the subversive funk build and slipper-slapping lounge jazz charms of "Samba De Verao", the honeyed harmonies of "Tapetes, Guardanapos, Cetins", the list goes on. An authentic slice of seductive Brazilian cool in 1983.

Review: The 11th in his 27 album strong career, Vontade de Rever Voce is regarded as Marcos' funkiest return to form. Having spent a lot of the 70s writing for TV (including Sesame St) and writing with the likes of Chicago and Leon Ware, this 1981 re-engaged his legacy as a solo artist and did so with a strong emphasis on boogie as tracks such as the synth-pimped uptempo bossa "Pecados De Amor" and the hip-flaring strutter "A Paraiba Nao E Chicago". Meanwhile his sunkissed Latin soul shines on hazy jazz explorations such as "Campina Grande" and the more sunset styled "Nao Pode Ser Qualquer Mulher". One of Marcos's most comprehensive and captivating LPs, grab this while you can.

1985 (Theo Parrish SS translation) (8:17)
Prefixo (Daz I Kue Bloodfire remix) (6:49)
Review: The Far Out crew revisit the Estatica album from"the original Beach Boy" Marcos Valle that they released back in 2010, tasking the dons like Theo Parrish and Daz I Kue to remix two modern classics from that set. And what of the results? It's modern dancefloor jazz fusion of the highest order Nick! Sound Signature boss Theo steps up to "1985", beatless in original form, and retains the central organ motif but twists it D style over some eight minutes of stuttering beatdown samba. It's a classy way to pay homage to Valle's work from Theo, and Daz I Kue does just as good a job flipside with his take on "Prefixio". If you've copped one of the Bugz man's Bloodfire works over the years you'll know he's a master and flipping jazz and funk cuts with his bruk beats and he does it again here. Stand up Far Out!

Review: Somewhat bizarrely, this 1972 set was funded and released by (the now defunct) Cruzeiro Airlines as a promotional item. More impressively, it brought together some of Brazil's finest musicians including Azymuth (who were responsible for laying down the backing tracks) and Marcos Valle. Here reissued for the first time, it offers a glorious blend of string-drenched arrangements, jazz-funk, samba and jazz-fired backing tracks, spacey early synthesizer sounds, twinkling pianos and sweet female vocals guaranteed to make your flight across Brazil pass by in a loved-up blur. It's infinitely superior to almost all contemporary in-flight entertainment options and - more surprisingly - of far greater musical quality than you'd expect from what was effectively a marketing exercise.

Marcos Valle - "A Paraiba Nao E Chicago" (4:39)
Don Beto - "Nao Quero Mais" (2:11)
Review: For the latest volume in their ongoing Brazil 45s series, Mr Bongo has decided to change tack. The two tracks showcased here are from the golden age of Brazilian boogie. On the A-side you'll find Marcos Valle's "A Paraiba Nao E Chicago", a largely overlooked cut from his 1981 full-length Vontade De Rever Voce. While not as instantly as infectious as some of his better-known singles, it's still superb; a breezy, blue-eyed soul cut full of rising horns and sweet Portuguese vocals. On the B-side, you'll find Don Beto's 1978 disco-funk jam "Nao Quero Mais", a superb track that was seemingly inspired by the Doobie Brothers' "Long Train Running".

Marcos Valle - "Estrelar" (5:11)
Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti - "Aleluia" (3:52)
Review: Two silky sides of Brazilian disco soul on Mr Bongo's perennial Brazil 45s series. First up, long-haired lothario samba fusionista Marcos teams up with Leon Ware for a pristine polished piece of early 80s disco funk. Golden harmonies, staccato vocals and a super juicy bassline; it's not hard to see why it was his best selling single. Flip for the equally smooth "Alleluia" from Brazilian boogie gospelist; this one is all about the percussion heavy breakdown. Proper sunshine block party business.

Toni Tornado - "Me Libertei" (3:39)
