Review: Marika Hackman returns to the fold with her fourth album Big Sigh, five years on from the release of Any Human Friend. Compared to the more exuberant themes of its predecessor, Big Sigh is a more introspective affair which reacts to the personal challenges Hackman experienced going through lockdown. Lead single 'No Caffeine' sets the tone as a reflection on overcoming anxiety, while 'Hanging' stews on past relationships and the struggle to move on. The topics may be heavy, but Hackman doesn't let them weigh down the exuberant strain of indie rock she has made her name on.
