Bicep - "Mixxmaster 88"
Casino Times - "Heart Strings"
Medlar - "Cant Stop" (Creative Swing Alliance remix)
Ishmael - "Want You"
Review: Given their illustrious rise over the past twelve months, the appearance of Belfast duo Bicep on the latest Wolf Music release is quite the coup for the London label. Artist and label are of course no strangers, with a Bicep dub of Medlar appearing WOLFEP009, yet there's currently a Midas touch style momentum driving Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar that should ensure this 12" sells out even swifter than previous lupine plates. "Mixmaster 88" is an unadulterated party anthem and another ode to some of their heroes (spot the cheeky Armando usage) yet it's most memorable because it shows Bicep at their most confident. Further house music excellence is afforded with contributions from Casino Times, Medlar and newcomer Ishmael that ensure this is yet another all killer, no filler emission from the Wolf Music stable.

Lo Shea - "Home"
Medlar & Red Rack'em - "Morning Light"
Moire - "Solar Signs"
STL - "Freaky Fingers"
Review: The vinyl pressings of the expansive two-disc compilation for Phonica continue with this diverse selection from an impressive cast. Sheffield hero Lo Shea is in a mischievous mood with the skipping beat and gruesome bass of "Home", while Medlar and Red Rack'em join forces for the chunky dub house of "Morning Light". Moire has a more techno-inclined approach on "Solar Signs" that features plenty of hopeful synths and an audacious breakdown, and then STL brings the leftfield goodies with the characteristically edgy throwdown "Freaky Fingers" choc full of rasping drums and carnival whistles.

Cable Street (5:14)
Turn Things Around (6:00)
Review: Wolf Music staple Medlar proves yet again that he's the season expert in all things low-slung and groovy on his latest effort for Delusions Of Grandeur. 'Interruptor' is a playful and off-kilter-cut that's perfect tackle for the warm-up or afterhours like, followed by the sensual mood music of 'I Wish' featuring NYC-based vocalist Kim Anh. Over on the flip, there's the swing-fuelled and emotive deep house cuts 'Cable Street' and 'Turn Things Around' which will keep the party going well into the AM hours.

Review: Wolf Music family since the early days, Medlar (Nitework/Still Life) presents his latest mini-LP titled Aerial, which features a wide variety of moods and grooves across seven cuts. From the low slung cosmic chug of the title track, to 'Elephant Bingo' with its infectious nu-disco energy, through to B side cuts 'Phoenix Lights' which goes for that classic Stateside deep house sound and the slo-mo Balearic bliss of 'Sin Prisa' closing it out. All in all, it's another stellar effort by the respected London-based producer.

Priet (6:04)
Queen Of Tacos (with FYI Chris) (5:38)
Review: Having spent the last 12 months sharpening his disco credentials via a variety of re-edit EPs and sample-heavy "secret weapons", Medlar is back on Wolf doing what he does best. In this case, that means sparse, drum machine driven electro/proto house fusion ("Cascinari"), delay-heavy, stripped-back analogue house blessed with dreamy chords and grime style lo-fi synth-strings ("Nisantasi") and Ruf Dug style dancefloor sweetness seemingly created using forgotten old synthesizers, dusty drum machines and a solitary TB-303 ("Priet"). Excitingly, the EP's final track - a bustling fusion of beatbox electro rhythms, layered breakbeats, heavy bass and yearning chords - is a studio hook-up with similarly well-regarded producer FYI Chris.

Early Winter Light (6:05)
All One Machine (7:09)
Early Winter Light (FYI Chris remix) (7:08)
Review: For release number nine, Madrid-based Riverette has turned to Wolf Music regular Medlar. Predictably, he serves up a string of ear-pleasing, floor-friendly gems. There's a pleasing looseness to picturesque deep house opener "Juno", where twinkling electronics and stretched-out chords ride a sparse but heavy, analogue sounding groove. The tougher, darker "All One Machine" sounds like a tribute to David Morales' legendary Red Zone dubs, while "Early Winter Light" is a sharp, angular, acid-fired box jam. FYI Chris delivers a fine remix of the latter track, smothering Medlar's rough drums and psychedelic acid lines in ambient house chords and hissing cymbals.

Tides (KON remix)
Tides (12" mix)
Listen (Greymatter remix)
Tap Spring (12" mix)
Review: One of the few complaints fielded about Sleep, last year's debut long player from Medlar, was some of the tracks were a bit short to really satisfy the needs of the DJ specifically the monumental beatdown of "Tides". So both Medlar and Wolf Music deserve applause for issuing this 12" which attends to this issue with an extended 12" take on the track. The extra room only improves the track and is complemented well by the preceding remix from dusty fingered Boston producer and DJ Kon who flips the track into a straight up house cut. Don't skip the B Side either as fellow Wolf Music regular Grey Matter is on board with an equally good revision of "Listen" whose dusty, sunken qualities will appeal to fans of Anthony Naples output on TTT.

Review: Medlar has consistently been one of Wolf Music's biggest assets over the last three years, delivering a string of impressive tracks and singles for the growing house imprint. Here, he steps up with a debut album (incidentally, it's also Wolf's first full-length proper), a sleepy, heart-warming trip through late night deep house. Littered with atmospheric samples, jazzy skits and restless interludes, Sleep proves that house albums need not be solely focused on the needs of the dancefloor. Highlights are plentiful, from the cymbal-heavy nocturnal paranoia of "1516" and string-drenched sweetness of "Tap Spring", to the Moodymann-ish "Blues" and hazy jazziness of the inspired "Lines". Recommended.

Govern
Review: Medlar, who also produces as Klic, drops his first solo EP for London imprint Wolf Recordings. Lush chords and woozy rhodes partner up with "uh-huh" vocal snippets and tribal percussion in "The Sun". James Brown "uh's" and basic synth progressions make up "Knockard Pearl", which receives a stellar Detroit Swindle remix of bolstered stabs that verge on rave. "Govern" lowers the BPM for a shuffled groove, maintaining the lo-fi brilliance of the rest of the EP. A secret weapon for the transitional DJ.

Review: Moxie Presents Volume Two Sampler is the first physical release from Moxie's compilation series of the same name on her newly conceived 'On Loop' imprint. The compilation was released for free via Moxie's Soundcloud page in January 2016, and was met with rave reviews and radio support from the likes of Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Annie Mac and Toddla T. This sampler features 3 tracks taken from the compilation and an exclusive Dub of Medlar's 'In Dreams,' the original of which was a highlight on the compilation.

Review: Wolf Music alumnus Medlar teams up with multi instrumentalist Ishmael here for the inaugural release of West Friends which is brought to you by Peckham record store Rye Wax as their new sublabel. "Bell, Everywhere 1" is deep house that delves into the truly exotic. There's more funky and syncopated rhythms complimented by lush bell tones on "Bell, Everywhere 2" while on the flip, we've go "B2 Or Not B2", a cute drum track featuring an odd selection of hits that somehow work together supported by pawn shop synth bleeps.

Sweet Life - "I Get Lifted" (Medlar dub) (5:52)
Review: On this officially licensed release, Wolf Music regular Medlar gets a chance to rework some of his favourite West End Records tracks. He's done a fine job, too, delivering reworks that suit contemporary dancefloors, while paying due reverence to the superb source material. He begins by rearranging and extending Shirley Lites' most famous moment, the boogie-era brilliance of "Heat You Up (Melt You Down)", before slicing together bits of the vocal and instrumental versions of Love Club's steamy electrofunk slammer "Hot Summer Nights". On the flip, he heads towards more traditional disco territory, first cutting up Kenix's sweet hearted "There's Never Been (No One Like You)", before reaching for the dub effects on a brilliant revision of Sweet Life's "I Get Lifted".

Session Victim - "Random Blues"
Medlar - "Carry It"
Squarehead - "Be Withou"
Ishmael - "Au Juju"
Review: Big manoeuvres as usual from the Wolf Music crew on their 18th release! Session Victim must rank amongst the most high profile inductees into the Wolf Music series so it makes perfect sense for the German duo to open proceedings with the classic slab of European deepness that is "Random Blues". Worthy of a Raw Cuts release, Session Victim weave dusty drums, sweet vocal intonations and the warmest of basslines together with the resultant laid back track likely to be much played in Croatia over the summer evenings. Complementing this, "Carry It" from Wolf Music regular Medlar adopts a similar hazy house tone whilst the flip holds a pair of newcomers in Squarehead and Ishmael - the latter's cut is particularly special!

Walk (6:10)
Walk (Soulphiction remix) (6:19)
I On You (6:12)
Review: Delusions Of Grandeur have been relatively quiet on the release front this year, but they're back with a bang thanks to this latest collaborative effort from Dan Shake and Medlar. The former has gotten a name thanks to being the first non-Detroiter on Moodymann's Mahogani Music, while the latter has been pushing his disco-friendly take on house music largely via the Wolf Music imprint. They got two cuts on here, the first one being a boogie-leaning, hazy summer club jam in the form of "Walk", and the second one a jazzier affair with plenty of soulful vocals and tribal drums called "I On You". Philpot bossman Soulphiction takes care of transforming "Walk" into a pot of filter-licking madness, where the percussion is stretched and freaked out further out into the ether compared to the original. What a package!

Full Moon (Detroit Swindle remix) (6:27)
Gudu Gudu Kan (Daz-I-Kue remix) (7:38)
Review: The recent collaborative EP from London-based Afrobeat star Dele Sosimi and established deep house and disco producer Medlar was simply superb, with the fusion of the two artists' disparate styles working wonderfully well. Hopes are naturally high then for this remixed version. Dutch deep house stalwarts Detroit Swindle handle side A, cannily layering Sosimi's vocals and Afro-funk keys over a squelchy analogue synthesizer bassline and reverb-laden, proto-house style drums. It's a very good revision all told. On the flip West London scene veteran Daz-I-Kue does his thing with 'Gudu Gudu Kan', smartly re-imagining it as a prime slice of loose-limbed Afrobeat/broken beat fusion that makes of the most of Sosimi's Fela-style horns and vocals.

Full Moon (6:53)
Gudu Gudu Kan (6:21)
You No Fit Touch Am (Medlar remix) (9:35)
Review: Here's something a little unexpected: a collaborative EP from British Afrobeat/Afro-soul hero Dele Sosimi and renowned deep house and disco fusionist Medlar. The latter's influence is clear on superb opener 'Full Moon', where Sosimi's keys and sweet, soulful vice rise above a deliciously sparse backing track full of lo-fi, sideman-style drums (think Teddy Pendergass's 'Why Can't We Live Together'), lazy guitar solos and squiggly synth-sounds. It can also be heard on 'Gudu Gudu Khan', a William Onyeabor-esque chunk of Afro-synth brilliance topped off by brilliant vocals by Sosimi. To round the EP off, Medlar provides his interpretation of earlier Sosimi single, 'You No Fit Touch Am', offering up a club-ready take that sits somewhere between housed-up Afrobeat and synth-sporting Afro-disco.
