F&R 009 Drum Tracks
F&R 009 Drum Tracks (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: F&R 009. Rel: 22 Oct 20
Deep House
  1. Deep Tune (6:46)
  2. Drum Track 01 (6:51)
  3. Shift (7:38)
  4. Drum Track 02 (5:42)
Review: Nebraska's Friends & Relations label continues to yield the finest club tackle for those who need the real deal in their DJ sets. 'Deep Tune' casts its net as low as the Mariana Trench while riding a sweet disco loop, setting the scene for a teasing, dramatic drum throwdown with nimble synth flourishes on 'Drum Track 01'. 'Shift' takes things on a more interstellar trajectory with a heady beat elevated by star-strafing lead lines, and then 'Drum Track 02' whips up another killer percussive workout that keeps the organic intensity of the beat intact while still making it totally workable for the floor.

Y'miss Me Baby? EP
Y'miss Me Baby? EP (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: HEIST 044. Rel: 11 Mar 20
Deep House
  1. Y'miss Me Baby? (7:07)
  2. Dip & Flip (6:24)
  3. Y'miss Me Baby? (Giovanni Damico Jam mix) (5:18)
  4. Xiao Long Bao (5:41)
Review: Despite delivering two volumes in his ongoing "Disco Dubs" re-edit series on Friends & Relations, 2019 was a relatively quiet year for Alistair Gibbs AKA Nebraska. Here he begins 2020 in fine style with a cracking new outing on Heist Recordings. Title track "Y'miss Me Baby?" delivers a suitably strong start and see Gibbs wrap twinkling lead lines, rich electric piano chords, talkbox vocals and P-funk synths around a hazy jazz-funk bassline and unfussy dancefloor drums. Giovanni Damico riffs on the jazz-funk and P-funk influences further on his instrumental boogie style "Jam Mix". Elsewhere, "Dip & Flip" is an all-action, filter-heavy disco-house loop jam, while "Xiao Long Bao" is a warm, deep, humid and undeniably jazzy sample-house roller tailor made for sunny afternoons.

F&R008 Disco Dubs 2
F&R008 Disco Dubs 2 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: F&R 008. Rel: 05 Aug 19
Deep House
  1. Disco Dub 04 (5:04)
  2. Disco Dub 05 (5:48)
  3. Disco Dub 06 (8:35)
Review: Nebraska's Friends & Relations series continues to serve up the finest disco-sprinkled house delights, following on from the previous installment of Disco Dubs with another on point reduction of dusty grooves through the mixing desk. These jams are stripped back and oh so heavy, with FX flaring in all the right places to give an eerie, trippy tint to the jams. It's like walking into the deep end of the session where Walter Gibbons jams with King Tubby uptown, and you'd be right in thinking that's a match made in far-out disco heaven.

Usin' Me
Usin' Me (pink vinyl 12")
Cat: RNTR 022. Rel: 26 Sep 18
Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Usin' Me (6:28)
  2. Usin' Me (Lovebrids remix) (7:06)
  3. Usin' Me (DJ Nature remix) (6:20)
  4. Usin' Me (The Revenge remix) (6:24)
Review: You can always rely on New York's Razor-N-Tape for high quality respectful edits. Cut in Brooklyn, here's another disco killer that is great for dancing - courtesy of JKriv & Aaron Dae out now via their Reserve imprint is Londoner Ali Gibbs aka Nebraska, who tweaks a soulful sample with signature finesse; it's part disco, part house and all vibes on "Usin' Me". Lovebirds then get in on the action to deliver a soulful and bittersweet early Chicago house perspective, the legendary DJ Nature never fails to deliver either and gets properly deep and emotive with his terrific remix. As does Scottish veteran The Revenge on the flip, taking the track into the late night on his stellar effort.

F&R 005
F&R 005 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: F&R 005. Rel: 09 Jul 18
Deep House
  1. The Guitar
  2. The Vocoder
Review: Nebraska's Friends & Relations label is back in action with another two assured cuts of dusty, earthly grooves from the South London beat fiend. There's a rough n' ready MPC vibe to the break that courses its way through "The Guitar," providing a sturdy basis for the noodling titular axe cartwheeling its way across the mix. After those slightly Balearic vibes, "The Vocoder" brings a more forthright floor-filling attitude to the record thanks to a classic sizzling disco hook and a relentless forwards momentum. It's Nebraska on impeccable form, bringing the heat and stirring the soul in equal measure.

Drill Deep EP
Drill Deep EP (yellow vinyl 12")
Cat: RNTR 017. Rel: 29 Mar 17
Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Drill Deep (9:03)
  2. Instant Pressure (6:53)
  3. Keep On Keeping On (6:41)
Review: Brooklyn-based Razor 'N' Tape has some serious pulling-power these days. Having already released material from Dirtytwo, Mr V, Loz Goddard, Kraak & Smaak and Fouk, the New York imprint has managed to score an EP from Mister Saturday Night regular Nebraska. Predictably, it's a party-starting affair from start to finish. Bouncy, horn-heavy disco-house A-side "Drill Deep" - a weighty chunk of unashamed peak-time goodness - leads the way, with beatdown-tempo shuffler "Keep On Keeping On" snapping at its heels. This bubbles along tenderly via swirling disco orchestration, before bursting into life midway through thanks to the introduction of a sublime female vocal. "Instant Pressure", a chunkier, dub-flecked fusion of dewy-eyed soul and low-slung acid bass, is also superb.
