Resonating - "J707" (6:05)
Patrice Scott - "Untitled" (Beat version) (8:55)
Review: Volcov steers the good ship Neroli towards more of that immaculately curated deep gear you know they do so well. The Inside series reaches part three with another heavyweight cast, leading in with the mighty Fred P on the crisp rhythms and considered chord movements of 'Time Well Spent'. Rest Symbol follows up with a powerful strain of synth orchestration which adds a moody intensity to the record, while Resonating creates a raw, seductive beatdown on 'J707' that will satisfy any discerning outboard house fiend. Patrice Scott then seals the deal with a submerged 'Beat Version' of an untitled track that course through snaking rhythms at a slower tempo perfect for some backroom scene setting or creative warm-up blending.

Luke Hess - "Deliverer" (6:14)
Patrice Scott - "Future Funk" (7:25)
Basic Soul Unit - "Torn Satin" (6:53)
Michael Zucker - "YHWH" (6:15)
Review: Finale Sessions continues to fly the flag for the freshest variations on deep techno with a distinct Detroit flavour, and now the label is celebrating five years of operations with a split release that calls upon some label regulars to turn out the goods. Luke Hess is up first with the dynamic whipcrack dub techno pulse of "Deliverer", while Patrice Scott continues his fine run of form with the meditative "Future Funk". Basic Soul Unit meanwhile strikes the balance between experimentation and immersion with the sharp-angled yet soothing "Torn Satin", and then label boss Michael Zucker drops a punchy but poignant offering in the shape of "YHWH".

Chris Mitchell - "Brisk City"
Tony Ollivierra - "Prophetic Light"
Patrice Scott - "MFDT"
Review: Patrice Scott gathers together another crew of the deepest house producers to explore the more subterranean corners of the sound on this tidy three-track release. Chris Mitchell comes over all acidic on "Brisk City", letting a surprisingly chunky square wave bassline duel with strange tunings of synth flourishes, while Tony Ollivierra goes for a more typical Sistrum jaunt in the expressive strings he dishes out on "Prophetic Light". However it's Scott himself that steals the prize with the full-bodied "MFDT", which holds a remarkable presence in the dynamic range of synths used despite the most restrained of beats.

Segue One (Aubrey's mix)
Review: Earlier this year, long established techno producers Patrice Scott and Chris Mitchell joined forces as Modular One. Initially, it was for the one-off "Quasar" track on Scott's own Sistrum imprint. Here, they deliver another message from the stars in the shape of "Segue 1", a typically deep, attractive and far-sighted composition that fixes deep space chords and winding melodies to an arpeggio-driven Motor City groove. On the flip, British techno veteran Aubrey delivers his own take on "Segue 1", playing down the arpeggio bassline while emphasizing the original's classic Detroit techno elements. It's a dreamy, immersive and thoroughly atmospheric interpretation.

Chasing Dreams (6:53)
Remember When? (6:46)
New Day (5:23)
Review: Whether operating within house or techno, Motor City producer Patrice Scott's productions are always shot through with the warmth of machine soul. "Chasing Dreams", the lead cut from the producer's first outing on Italian imprint Neroli, is a perfect example. Dancefloor chops are provided by a rolling drum machine rhythm, while life-affirming positivity comes via Scott's canny use of spacey chord sequences and fluid, Larry Heard style piano motifs. It's a simply sumptuous track. It comes accompanied on side B by the deeper and woozier "Remember When?", where gentle pianos cluster around a bubbly electronic bassline and brilliantly stereo panned percussion, and the lingering synth solos and spacey electronics of hip-hop tempo slow jam "New Day".

The Detroit Upright (6:21)
Who We Are (6:15)
Review: Patrice Scott's long awaited debut album, Euphonium, was arguably one of the most underrated full-lengths of 2015. Happily, he's kept the quality threshold high for this follow-up EP. "The Detroit Upright" is particularly potent, with effortlessly smooth keys stretching out over rich chords and bumpin' deep house beats. On the flip, Scott doffs a cap to the hazy, jazz-funk influenced styles of 2000 Black, on the impeccable broken beat/deep house fusion cut, "Who We Are". Weighty at the bottom end, and blessed with both starry keys and delay-laden synth lines, it's the kind of track you could imagine Theo Parrish losing his shit to.

For My People (5:04)
Let's Dance (6:38)
Abstract Jazz (4:53)
The Detroit Track (5:04)
Review: The assumption of quality that comes with Patrice Scott records is never let down, and so it goes on this latest refined transmission from his Sistrum label. 'For My People' is a sharp and snappy jam with some of the warmest bass you're likely to hear all year, but it's also smoothed out by mellow keys that provide the starry-eyed magic so intrinsic to Scott's sound. 'Let's Dance' is equally chill, albeit with a nagging swing you won't be able to resist bopping to, whether on the floor or elsewhere in your world. 'Abstract Jazz' offers up something a little more playful as Scott lets the beats come in a little crooked and the keys go darting off into intriguing harmonic configurations, but it's still sophisticated and elegant at its core. 'The Detroit Track' rounds the EP off with another sweet bumper which speaks to Scott's legacy as much as the city he hails from.

Ghetto Love (7:58)
That Vibe (6:57)
Review: Longtime Detroit badman Patrice Scott ensures Christmas comes early for all lovers of deep house. This EP on his own Sistrum is a real doozy that opens with the slow and purposeful kicks of 'The Uprise,' a real beatdown gem. 'Ghetto Love' is explores more of his usual realm - cavernous musical depths that encourage your mind to wander and get lost in amongst the wispy pads and curious motifs. Last of all, 'That Vibe' brings a very subtle sense of Motor City party, with soulful chords and upbeat kicks embellished with playful Rhodes work. Timeless stuff for sure.

A Song For Mia (4:15)
Review: When he last released on his own Sistrum label 18 months ago, Patrice Scott served up some serious deep house "Soul Food". This time round, he's concerned with "Moments & Concepts", opening another fine EP with an expansive title track that adds fluid, heart-aching Larry Heard style piano work to a breezy and beautiful backing track rich in snappy machine drums and undulating jazz bass. Over on the flipside, "Be Free" is a fine chunk of organ-driven classic deep house - all delay-laden soul vocal samples, elongated chords and bumpin' beats - while "A Song For Mia" sees the Detroit veteran wrap chilled out chords and lead lines around a head-nodding hip-hop beat.

Are You Conscious? (4:07)
Review: Patrice Scott's third and final solo EP of 2018 is packed to the rafters with high-grade material. Perhaps most notable is A-side "Movin In", a fluid, funk-fuelled affair bristling with jazzy electric piano motifs, swinging, New Jersey garage influenced drums, liquid synth bass and some decidedly Larry Heard style musical flourishes. Over on side B, the long-serving Detroiter layers sumptuous jazz-funk synths and jazzy analogue bass over a sweaty deep house beat on "Come Inside", before showcasing his hip-hop style beat-making skills on the beautiful, deep-as-an-ocean head-nodder "Are You Conscious?". In a word: superb.

They’re Up To Something
She’s Jazzy
Review: The highly regarded Sounds Of The City label makes a welcome return after promising 12"s from Brian Harden, Walt J, Kai Alce and Javontte amongst others. This time around they've called upon Detroit house royalty Patrice Scott to lay down some delicate, refined deep house loaded with that all important Motor City soul. "Reborn Goodness" is quintessential Scott, riding a steady cruising groove and laying down honey coated keys, while "They're Up To Something" nudges in a more spacious kind of soulful house music that wouldn't sound out of place in Rick Wade's repertoire. "She's Jazzy" finishes the EP off with a snappy, stomping jam that stands out as one of the best on the 12".

Review: When Patrice Scott offers you a steaming hot slab of Soul Food, you should gleefully accept. After all, there are few producers in Detroit - or elsewhere, for that matter - who can pack quite as much life-affirming flavour into their dancefloor delicacies. This particular EP sees him in deep house mode, combining luscious musical touches - rich chord progressions, bubbling synthesizer melodies and yearning piano flourishes - with nods towards vintage Motor City tech-soul. Choose between the Kaidi Tatham Rhodes stabs, analogue bass and intricately layered drums of "Soulfood", the dreamy, late night fluidity of "Feels So Good", and the gentle summer breeze that is closer "Instant Gratification".

People Music (6:52)
People Music (bonus beats) (3:40)
Review: US deep house master Patrice Scott steps out of his own Sistrum Recordings label and lands on the Detroit-laden People Of Earth for a sublime three-track excursion. "Odyss Dance" is a classic Scott joint, a deep and ethereal house experiment that instantly gives off the producer's signature feel of mystique, best described as a 'dubby haze'. "People Music" is a little brighter, a little warmer around the edges, thanks to an uplifting synth riding solo in the upper edges of the mix, and a funky bassline driving the engine beneath. There's also a 'bonus beats' version as a final slice of magic, where Scott adds a layer of tribalistic percussion to an already ritualistic drum pattern. Another Patrice Scott blinder.

Review: Somewhat surprisingly, this is veteran Detroiter Patrice Scott's debut album. He's been releasing admirably melodic blends of deep house and techno since 2006, but this is the first time he's attempted to fill a full-length release. Euphonium is predictably enjoyable, with audible nods to pioneers of both genres - Ron Hardy, Ron Trent, Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Larry Heard in particular - and a range of tracks that ripple with far-sighted chords, sci-fi tinged rhythms, and an almost tactile feel. While mostly focused on dancefloor material, there are occasional downtempo excursions (see "A Detroit State of Mind" and "Sync Deeper"). These help give the album balance, while emphasizing Scott's love of mood and melody.

Track 3
Review: If you didn't know Patrice Scott was from Detroit, you could probably guess. You see, the Euphonium EP comes on like the soundtrack to a sci-fi tear-jerker yet to be made, all intergalactic chords, deep space pads, melancholic melodies and eyes-closed rhythms. Scott is a past master at this kind of unadulterated deepness, of course, but there's still something impressive about the beatless beauty of "B3", the cymbal-driven deep techno melancholia of "A1", and the otherworldly shuffle of "B1". All three tracks are brilliantly immersive, offering the kind of enveloping escapism that Scott does so well.

Sequence Two
Review: Nostalgia sees Detroit veteran engaging in another two tracks of deep techno with the producer's typically interstellar touch for his own Sistrum Recordings. The twinkling percussive chimes and drawn out pads of "Nostalgia" come expectedly sepia tinted, and underpinned with a tough rhythm and low slung bass groove; "Sequence 2" on the flip is a much livelier affair, with a twisting acidic bassline wrapped around cascading chords and dubby keys that combine to create a positively kaleidoscopic effect.

Orbital Bliss (Patrice Scott rechord version)
Review: The Orbital Bliss EP provides four further expansive journeys into the outer reaches of the techno galaxy courtesy of Mr Patrice Scott, commencing in the ambient soundscape of "Tones & Things", the swaying chord sequences embellished by minor meteor fields of off key hats and luscious textures. From this gently utopian opener, "Oberon" finds Scott in more floor orientated mood, fizzing analogue textures swarming around the gloopy beat, whilst the expanses are filled with similarly futuristic strains of melody and texture. On the flip, the title track locks into a tighter, more introverted groove with simplistic rhythms allowing the gradual rise of hypnotic textural patterns the chance to hypnotise. Proceedings are turned inside out on the subsequent rechord version from Scott, with a much more strident beat relegating the kaleidoscopic textures to the dubby recesses, before the track explodes into blossoming incandescence midway through.

Analog Dreams (Johannes Volk remix)
Analog Dreams (XDB reshape)
Analog Dreams (P Scott Beatless dub)
Review: Patrice Scott signals a welcome revisit of his excellent "Analog Dreams", calling on the talents of XDB and Johannes Volk to add their own thoughts to the track. Volk takes the lead with a dusty revision that saunters across the A Side, retaining key elements of the original but dosing proceedings with gloopy hypnosis via the deep tones and thick bass that seeps towards your inner ear. Whilst the sprawling textures lend the track an expansive quality, the stiff kicks retain focus. XDB takes the track in a pleasantly different direction, sumptuous soundscapes arise in unison with stripped back drums whilst rusty analogue stabs are slowly introduced to shift the impetus towards a more focused second half. Scott's own twinkling "Beatless Dub" seems a fitting way to end this release.

Mind Rhtyhms
Review: Two years may seem like a very short stop gap between original release and reissue, but when the music comes at this kind of grade who's complaining? Much like his contemporaries such as Fred P and DJ Qu, Patrice Scott's take on deeper-than-deep house conjure up ambient fantasies coloured with twinkling synth lines and slowly exhaled pads. It's not all fuzzed-out bliss though, as "2000 Black" sneaks a warm and snarling bassline amidst the soothing elements around it. "Mind Rhythms" especially shines with its combination of heavy groove and intricate melodies bubbling away under the surface.

Review: Detroit legend Patrice Scott joins forces with EDB and Gary Superfly, delivering a two track tidbit of digestible house curios. Scott's A-sider 'Mood Swings' sonically charts the feeling of melancholic ups and downs via minimal house, nailing the dubiousness of the mood with careful portamentos between strung notes, and blue-noted piano to garnish the ivorian cupcake. 'The Fifth Floor', meanwhile, upends things into a much wider, galactic spacefaring affair, as broken beat drums and acid squelch ground pie-in-the-sky flareups of synth.

Review: Alex Attias' Visions Inc imprint has decided to launch a new multi-artist EP series. Happily, the first "Phase" in the "Evolution" series - they've promised three more this year - delivers a suitably strong start. Patrice Scott sets a high benchmark with opener "Rain Dance", a wonderfully warm fusion of elastic deep house beats, spacey electronic motifs and tactile Rhodes chords, before Kai Alce breaks up the beats a little on his effortlessly soulful, jazz-funk influenced revision of "Stay My Way" by Kemetic Just presents Justone. Hanna's flipside opener "Heist" is suitably deep, starry, groovy and soulful, while Reekee's "Let It Make" is a musically rich affair full of jazz-funk bass, fizzing synths, far-sighted chords and bustling beats that sit somewhere between broken beat and breakbeat house.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: For those turned on by the far-sighted, sci-fi inspired sounds of Detroit deep house and techno, this EP from Michael Zucker's Finale Underground imprint (an offshoot of his Finale Sessions label) should be an essential purchase. With the likes of Patrice Scott, Keith Worthy and Luke Hess involved, you'd expect the quality threshold to be high. It is, of course, resulting in a quartet of killer tracks. Hess' hypnotic techno jam "Tolox" is a definite highlight, though it pales in comparison to the analogue futurism of Keith Worthy's brilliant "Cyclops". Best of all, though, is Scott's "Journey Into The Unknown", which bobs, weaves, bubbles and spits to the rush-inducing deep house sound of undulating synthesizer melodies and classic, Transmat-style Motor City rhythms.

This belated follow-up repeats the same recipe for success, once again showcasing four cuts from big-hitting artists. Scott steps up first with the swirling, dreamy, intergalactic deep house bliss of "Seasons Change", before boogie revivalist Reggie Dokes joins the dots between analogue deep house and synth-funk on the sublime "The Baptism".
