Domu - "Point Of Entry" (3:48)
Hieroglyphic Being - "Black Hands Sound 63" (6:19)
Patrick Gibin & Kaidi Tatham - "Don't Read" (5:46)
EDB - "You Bring Me Joy" (feat Marsha & Alberto Lincetto) (6:03)
Review: Second chapter of the 'Inside' series of various artists eps selected by Neroli's very own Volcov. This time with a more eclectic approach than the previous volume, exploring more electronic landscapes with Domu's downtempo ambience song aptly titled 'Point Of Entry' and Jamal Moss's unmistakable sound on his opus 'Black Hands Sound 63' on the first side. On the flipside Mother Tongue's own Patrick Gibin returns with another bouncing collaboration with Kaidi Tatham entitled 'Don't Read' and new upcoming wonder producer EDB serves 'You Bring Me Joy' with the help of Alberto Lincetto on keys and NTS resident Marshmello on vocals!

Minimal House/Tech House
EDB & Gary Superfly - "Pressure" (Patrick Gibin & Kaidi Tatham Rude remix) (5:49)
Mark De Clive-Lowe, Patrick Gibin & Tommaso Cappellato - "Apollo 3000" (MdCL Dreamscape Refix) (5:17)
Review: Last year, Mother Tongue Records released Madre Lingua, an album of all-star collaborations between broken beat and deep house musicians and producers helmed by Verona-based Brit Patrick Gibin. This 12" updates two of the tracks from the set, with Gibin once again to the fore. On side A, he joins forces with long-time friend and studio buddy Kaidi Tatham to remix EDB and Gary Superfly's 'Pressure'. Their tack is bouncy and synth-heavy, with spacey, out-there lead lines and intergalactic-sounding pads rising above a Maurice Fulton-as-Syclops style bassline and loose-limbed house drums. On the flip, Marc De Clive-Lowe remixes his own collaboration with Gibin and Tommasso Capelleto, 'Apollo', brilliantly joining the dots between spacey jazz-funk and ambient on a superb, beat-free 'Dreamscape' mix.

Real Talk (4:10)
Joint Purpose (3:58)
Review: Mother Tongue's Patrick Gibin is the man behind the fourth drop form the Sounds Familiar label's 7inch Nails series. He kicks it off with 'Real Talk,' a low slung and funky number with disco energy, withering sci-fi synths and dusty sound design, while bright boogie stabs and a fat bassline finish it perfectly. On the flip side of this high grade weapon, 'Joint Purpose' ups the ante with squelchy basslines and chattery house claps all run through with some mysterious synth pins and warmer background chords.

Sunrise (6:17)
Searching (5:38)
Take Flight (5:21)
Review: Italian Patrick Gibin is probably most known to you all for his Black Aroma re-edit series, and is also the resident DJ and artistic director of ROOTS Corte Radisi in Verona, Italy: a seminal and unique club. His penchant for deep cuts and dusty reworks find a fitting home on Brooklyn's Razor N Tape - bringing you the most 'respectful' edits, as always. The evocative and sunkissed soul power of "Sunrise" is stretched over the A side, On the flip, "Searching" provides a handy extension of a certain soulful 70s anthem, and "Take Flights" is a well funky boogie-down joint that's looped for pleasure. Re-edits done proper.

Time Goes By (original vocal) (7:22)
Time Goes By (Volcov dub reduction) (6:32)
Phanareega (6:15)
Review: Verona-based Blend It boss and main resident at Roots Corte Radisi, Patrick Gibin dusts off his TwICE guise for a washed-out slice of spacey house music. Loose organic drums and cymbal-splashes create a very natural bedrock for the fluttering arpeggios, bulbous analogue bassline and Clara Hill's hazy, soft-focus vocals. For added spatial awareness Italian vibe maestro Volcov injects dynamic chasms into the blend with ghostly vocal echoes and hypnotic conga rolls before Gibin closes the show with the psychedelic escapade that is "Phanareega"; all Saunderson pads but King Britt drums, it pays homage to the deepest sources. TwICE as nice.

Lights Out

Lights Out (7:02)
High Flames (6:42)
Flash Burn (6:26)
Review: Verona-based Patrick "Twice" Gibin is making a habit of collaborating with nu-jazz and broken beat veterans. Having previously joined forces with one-time Sonar Kollektiv regular Clara Hill, this E.P sees him acquire the services of killer keys-man Kaidi Tatham of Bugz In The Attic fame. The latter's smart, jazz-funk influenced riffs are all over the sweet, gently soulful and wonderfully positive deep house A-side "Lights Out", but can also be heard on the woozy, broken beat-goes-boogie flex of "High Flames". "Flash Burn", another musically rich, organic house groover - this time complete with what sound like eyes-closed guitar solos - completes an excellent package.

I Like To Show You (6:17)
Review: DJ, crate digger and Blend-It Records boss Patrick Gibin is arguably better known for his work as Twice, particularly a string of strong collaborations with the likes of Kaidi Tatham and Clara Hill. Here he resurfaces on Eglo with two tracks made in cahoots with MdCL (AKA Kiwi keys-man Mark De Clive-Lowe) and sultry deep house specialist Javonntte. "Cloud Nine", in particular, is superb: an effortlessly soulful rush of deep house bliss whose fizzing jazz-funk synth solos and rich chord progressions reminded us of classic Phil Asher productions during the original broken beat era in the early 2000s. Speaking of broken beat, there's a genuinely jazzier shuffle to flipside "I Like To Show You", which also boasts oodles of killer boogie and P-funk style synths courtesy of the fast-fingered De Clive-Lowe.

Patrick Gibin - "Flash Point" (4:16)
Caruso - "Archive" (4:46)
Review: To celebrate 25 years of Ten Lovers Music, Patrick Gibin and Caruso deliver 2 tracks for a special double sided 7" pressed on sky blue vinyl. On Side A, 'Flash Point' is another example of Patrick's boogie aesthetic which oozes groove and positive melodies. A soon to be collector's item for all the boogie funk connoisseurs. On the flip "Archive" from Caruso, which as the name suggests is an unreleased Deep House track from 2002, still standing the test of time.

Don't Be Rude (6:19)
Love To The World (instrumental mix) (7:22)
Groove On (6:06)
Review: House music's ability to make you feel good is part of its appeal, and artists like New Jersey majesty Josh Milan of Blaze fame, and London broken beat astro Kaidi Tatham sure know that. They link here with Patrick Gibin for an EP that brims with summer time soul, joyous keys and funky bass riffs that are impossibly sweet. Jazz funk, house and boogie all colour the tracks here with "Don't Be Rude" brining the cosmic vibes and "Groove On" making you want to move for days with its killer b-line and disco energy. Gorgeous stuff, for sure.

Love To The World: Theo Parrish Reinterpretations
Cat: NERO 053. Rel: 01 Mar 21

Deep House
Love To The World (Theo vocal mix) (6:27)
Love To The World (Theo acappella mix) (3:14)
Review: Neroli is always a safe port of call for real, soulful strains of house music, but even by their own standards they've gone further out this time around. The dream team of Patrick Gibin and Kaidi Thatham backing Josh Milan on vocals was a house holy grail when 'Love To The World' dropped last year, but now that magical combination of artistry gets a shot in the arm from the one and only Theo Parrish. On the A side, the Detroit legend lays on one of his inimitable rugged beatdowns, decorated with piano flourishes and punctuated with clattering percussion that takes the track higher and farther. On the flip, the track gets stripped right back for a special acappella version which lets Milan's voice and the light-fingered piano work intertwine in a beatless reverie.

K15 (Devotion) (7:27)
Patrick Gibin (Cloud Nine) (6:11)
Review: Eglo Records' 10th birthday celebrations are in full swing. They've already notched up a riotous birthday party that got rave reviews, and later in the year will release a brand new compilation of previously unheard treats. It's this collection that's being trailed here via Kieran "K15" Ifill's "Devotion", a dancefloor-focused chunk of soul-flecked broken beat that Ego co-founder Alexander Nut recently described as "music for the mind, body and soul". Over on the flip there's a vinyl-only exclusive in the shape of Ifill's remix of Patrick Gibin and Javonntte's recent jazz-funk fired soulful house workout "Cloud 9". Ifill opts for a heavy bruk-up flavour, wrapping soulful musical elements from the original around punchy, loose-limbed beats and speaker-bothering low-end pressure.
