Dreams, Pains and Paper Planes is Pixey's first proper project since October 2021's Sunshine State EP, which itself was a follow-up to her acclaimed debut earlier in the year. That one got high-profile support across BBC Radio and so she has plenty to live up to but doesn't disappoint here. The majority of the record was written, recorded and produced by the artist herself in her own bedroom. She has clearly attempted to bend and blend genres a little more, tailoring the moods of each song but still keeping to the core big beat elements that define her sound. It is both sunny and optimistic but wrought with the anxieties we all share.
