Review: For our money, Luke Slater does his best work as Planetary Assault Systems. The iconic British producer now returns with his first album since 2016 and it is brimming with new material. Some of the tracks have been crafted in the audio, others are works taken from his live show as PAS, all of it is mind-melting minimal techno from another dimension, as per usual. There is a real focus on the dance floor here as soft hits, harmonic bells, warped synths all warp and weft their way around the rubbery, pulsing grooves. Of course, plenty of psychedelic colours help define this most stylish of records.

Review: Earlier in the year, Luke Slater offered up one of the most full-throttle and mind-altering Planetary Assault Systems releases of recent times, "Straight Shooting". He opts for a similarly mind-altering, forthright fusion of sci-fi sounds and jacking techno rhythms on this fine double EP, which marks the British veteran's return to Ostgut Ton after a three-year break. It was apparently inspired by his experiences in Berghain and on tracks like "Red" - all looped bleeps, computerized rhythms and hazy vocal samples - and the thrusting, acid-fired tribal stomp of "Whip It Good" you can definitely hear the influence of the Berlin club space. It's there, too, in the wonky broken techno/electro fusion of "Kamani" and the feverish "Peru Drift", which sounds like a 21st century take on Jaydee's "Plastic Dreams".

Review: British techno stalwart Luke Slater is now two decades into his ongoing Planetary Assault Systems adventures. To celebrate, he's handed over tracks recorded over the last 20 years to a hand picked group of remixers. It's a faultlessly floor-focused affair, with Lucy, Steve Bicknell, Function and Slam - whose acid-fired re-make of "Temporary Suspension" is an album highlight - all delivering typically no-nonsense interpretations of Slater's tracks. The producer himself delivers a handful of 'live edits' - versions created for his live shows - while Detroit legends Octave One smother "Booster" in classic Motor City melodies and the most positive of synthesizer refrains.

Review: Any new material from Luke Slater under the Planetary Assault Systems alias is something to celebrate, but rarely has the techno veteran dropped such an expansive set as Arc Angel. Boasting a positively overwhelming 20 tracks over three weighty slabs of vinyl, the first PAS album for five years is as spacey, hypnotic and intoxicating as anything in the British techno legend's vast catalogue. While mostly focused on atmospheric, Motor City influenced dancefloor futurism - and, let's face it, few do that better than Slater - Arc Angel also boasts a handful of inspired ambient cuts, some vintage, UK style "intelligent techno", and occasional nods towards UK contemporaries such as Surgeon, James Ruskin, Mark Broom and Oliver Ho.
