Review: Detroit's Ryan Crosson is a great upcoming artist that was discovered by Trapez ltd at an early stage. Since then he has released several 12s". His jacking rhythms have gained him respect worldwide. This mix, that was recorded in Richie Hawtins studio, is fat in sound, nicely shifting gears quite a bit, and has a fantastic break down and a cool psychedelic energy running throughout it. A precious pearl!

Cat: VQ 045. Rel: 13 Oct 14
Minimal House/Tech House
  1. Spoons
  2. Close To Danger
  3. Club Chimes (with Cesar Merveille)
Review: Bricolage marks something of a milestone for Ryan Crosson, representing his first full solo 12" release in some six years. Of course he's not been slacking in the period since that record in 2008 (the Confiteria Del Molino EP for Wagon Repair) but we've become mighty used to seeing the Visionquest man appearing on split 12"s along a cast of contemporaries. Whilst the three tracks on Bricolage all differ in mood, they are all united in their capacity to work a dancefloor with lead cut "Spoons" a wonderfully moody production that's lent a real sense of character by those reverb laden vocals. "Close To Danger" is Crosson at his mind bending best, with some gripping synth work whilst Cesar Merveille collaboration "Club Chimes" the perfect combination of melodic enrichment and big crunchy drums.

  1. Cadets In Heat (8:06)
  2. On The Rise (8:15)
  3. D!!! (5:18)
Review: It was about time that a new Visionquest EP came out, but seeing as these dudes are just so busy gigging week in and week out we can forgive them! Ryan Crosson, Seth Troxler and Lee Curtis' label has made waves since their first release about three years ago and the trio are never shy of a good tech bump. This time it's Crosson himself who delivers three club cuts: "Cadets In Heat" starts the festivities in a deep and sleek sci-fi mode complete with starry pads and a psychedelic feel, title track "On The Rise" is a bumpy and percussion-centred house affair, while "D!!" breaks things down and enters an unmistakable electro mood in what is certainly the odd one out but also the absolute winner of the lot. Quality guaranteed.

Minimal House/Tech House
  1. Ryan Crosson & Tale of Us - "Angel"
  2. Ryan Crosson & Aquarius Heaven - "Head Above Water"
Review: Joining forces with producers outside his Visionquest hometown, Ryan Crosson showcases a pair of collaborations that further tap into the sleek and sexy funk of the label he runs. "Angel", penned with the Tale Of Us boys, is an urgent mover with peppy drums and searching dashes of synth clipped into dynamic and ear snagging arrangements. "Head Above Water" reaches for the moody vocal talents of Aquarius Heaven, going for a techy construction that keeps the beat minimal while the melodics come in subtle pulsing tones that create a deeply hypnotic concoction perfect for the blurry end of the night.

  17. Matt Tolfrey - "Distant Story" (feat Jem Cooke & Kevin Knapp - Mr Finger Galactic mix)
  18. Jay Haze - "The Darkest Disco" (feat Ricardo Villalobos - Matt Tolfrey reprise)
Review: Amazingly, the first (and previously only) installment of Leftroom's Don't Be Leftout series was released way back in 2007. That time, it was simply Matt Tolfrey at the controls; here, he joins forces with Visionquest regular Ryan Crosson for a typically deep, intoxicating, tech-tinged mix-up. Interestingly, every track is exclusive to the compilation, with previously unheard originals from Huxley, Gavin Herlihy and H-Foundation being joined by a slew of brand new remixes and re-edits from Mr Fingers, Matt Tolfrey and Ryan Crosson. As a result, there's a fluid freshness to Don't Be Leftout that's hard to deny. It is, to put it bluntly, an impressively intoxicating journey.
