Review: We Are The Brave (WATB), owned by inimitable DJ and waxmaker Alan Fitzpatrick, here presents their very first physical release from the man himself. Two collabs with hard trance legends Rebuke and Sasha lend this four-piece a very hard edge; the first bit, of course, is called 'Ultimate Distortion', and hears farting buildups and huge leads inevitably scoop out rooms the world over - that reese though! Hard big room dub techno ensues on 'El Jefe', while voguing electro house ('I Still Remember') and a slapping slab of deep tech house ('Eleven Eleven') round off the B.

Review: Sasha is perhaps the biggest name in dance music. His partnership with Charlie May is amongst the most respected in the production world. Charlie May is well known his own right thanks to his work as one half of Spooky. This project is Sasha's first original release since the success of his last artist album. James Zabiela comes to the project fresh from the success of his own 'Weird Science' release (also on Renaissance). Release ties-in with DJ Mag Top 100 DJ list which will no doubt see both Sasha and James continue to retain their positions in the top 20.

Review: Rebirth's fresh new 12" is a various artists affair that looks back while striding forwards. It is full of the sort of bliss out, dreamy, soft-edge deep house that is perfect for the warmer months and outdoor dances. Paolino & Gianni Bini lead the way with the effortlessly hazy and lush feeling 'Love' (Classic mix) while Sasha's 'Key To Heaven' is a perfect prog house tune that harks back to the heyday of Renaissance. Paramour & Adrian Morrison then link for the more dark and driving 'Transmutation' which has train track drums and suspensory chords always building but never bubbling over. Open Spaces run out with the widescreen and chunky dub house of 'The Far Side Of The Mood.'

Review: Sasha's Fleuron Drift epitomises classic progressive house, showcasing his expertise in the genre. The original track features a strong melodic build and consistent energy throughout, captivating listeners with its dynamic progression. On the B-side, the remixes kick off with Theo Kottis' remix injects a more upbeat and trance-like vibe, with futuristic and techy elements. The growling bassline adds intensity, while a melodic break and tension release keep the energy flowing. In contrast, Kassian's remix takes a more minimal approach, focusing on groove. Stripping back the layers, it emphasizes rhythm and movement, creating a hypnotic atmosphere that draws listeners into its depths. Overall, Fleuron Drift and its remixes offer a diverse range of sounds and styles, staying true to the essence of classic progressive house.

Review: While he is still thought of as a God of a DJ to many, Welsh wizard Sasha is a dab hand in the studio too. Airdrawndagger, his second studio long player, is proof of that and a real masterpiece with co-productions by Charlie May, Junkie XL and James Holden. It is a hugely complex world of sound with progressive melodies, wavy electronic drums and immersive synths capes that all add up to one smooth and serene trip. This luxury reissue comes on limited, numbered trifold 180 gram audiophile silver & black marbled vinyl. A vital collector's piece.

Review: Sasha & Digweed are known for their heavy hands in pop and trance, but the former's best known work has to be 'Xpander', which set him apart from his myriad remixes of Madonna, Moby and The Chemical Brothers back in the day. Now the 4-track EP version of 'Xpander' sees a double 12" reissue from Music On Vinyl, showing off Sasha's taste for advanced breaks-trance, psychic themes and everything in between.

Review: Having made his debut on Kompakt with "Out Of Time" earlier this year, the legendary Sasha now breaks the seal on another prominent German label: Watergate. Flexing his darker technoid muscles, both "Gameovr" and "Trigonometry" are proud late night stampers that twist, weave, spell-bind and hammer in equal measures. The latter is exceptionally spellbinding thanks to its epic 10+ minute weave. Remix-wise we're spoilt rotten as Cassy punctuates "Gameovr" with pile-driving beats and La Fleur refixes our focus on a warmer, housier side to "Trigonometry". Play again?

Review: Long term Sasha-watchers won't be surprised by the progressive house veteran's decision to release an ambient album; he has, after all, always been dedicated to the more atmospheric side of dance music. Scene Delete includes previously unheard ambient material created by the legendary British DJ throughout the last two decades - often recorded at the same sessions as his club gear - and mixes the kind of progressive-tinged downtempo gear you'd expect, with more experimental tracks. In the latter category you'll find cuts that pay tribute to the likes of the Radiophonic Workshop and Suzanne Ciani, as well as nods towards Steve Reich, Max Richter, Boards of Canada and Pete Namlook.

Review: Given his advancing years, it's perhaps unsurprising that Sasha works slowly. This follow-up to his well-loved Invol2ver CD - a collection that set out to blur the boundaries between artist album, DJ mix and remix set - has been promised for four years. Still, fans will think it was worth the wait. Not just because Sasha delivers both club-friendly and downtempo versions of the album, but also because there's a distinctly progressive house feel throughout. Of course, there are contemporary influences - the shuffle of big room tech-house is never far away, and there are reworks of the likes of Blondes, Foals and the XX - but Involv3r's greatest strength is that it doesn't really sound like anything else. Put simply, it's Sasha through and through.

Review: Well, we're used to hearing Sasha on some progressive tip or, at least, bouncing around in the same space as labels like John Digweed's Bedrock, but here we have proof that the veteran producer is still out to diversify his sound and reach new audiences. The long-time DJ and producer steps up on Cologne's mythical Kompakt stable with "Out Of Time", a magnificently suave and laid-back house bombshell guided by the man's unmistakable prog-flex; this is the sort of gear you want to hear as you step into the dance and sip that first cocktail... a certified mood changer. On the flip we're graced with a few tenacious remixes; Patrice Baumel delivers an eight minute rework of the original, this time filtered through a much housier sort of guise that reminds us of the twilight hours on the Balearic islands' sandy beaches. Check the instrumental too - it'll be a useful DJ tool for sure.

Review: Sasha has done well to re-establish himself with the next generation, and its largely because of the work he puts into his Last Night On Earth label. A haven for producers who like emotionally stripping, melodic sounds, this latest VA package delves into the previously digital-only archives. The boss himself kicks things off with a collab with La Fleur built on a wavy baseline and crisp house rhythm. Fur Coat keep things more mysterious with "Babel" while Hunter/Game keep you in suspense throughout the many melodic and harmonica layers of "Canyons". Jon Da Silva & Jozef K close things down in more purposeful fashion.

Review: Never one to sit still, Sasha used the change in mindset that came with the lockdown to inspire his approach to music. LUZoSCURA (which means light and dark) is the new compilation that has resulted having evolved from the playlist of the same name. It's packed with new music from the man himself as well as newer names and more established artists. There are floaty, synth heavy ambient pieces like the 'Yin/Yang' opener, lush melodic electronic grooves from QRTR, symphonic garage cuts from MJ Cole and crunchy old breakbeats with more than a hint of Renaissance from Because Of Art.

Review: During last year's various lockdowns, Sasha spent plenty of time updating his Luzoscura playlists on streaming services, using them as a vehicle for material he liked that didn't quite fit into regular club sets. Now things are easing, he's decided to deliver a CD version, mixing together a handful of his own unreleased productions with all manner of deep, melodic, atmospheric and smile-inducing treats. While it's musically and rhythmically diverse - within the first handful of tunes you'll hear breakbeat, two-step, deep tech-house and electronica beats - and boasts more bass-weight than you might expect, the focus is on sofa-bound listening, with bright and breezy electronics, warming chords and lilting instrumentation catching the ear. Combine this with Sasha's impeccable track selections and you have a genuinely entertaining mix.

Review: Those who started their dance music journey in the 1990s may have fond memories of Sasha mixes. Either on his own or alongside John Digweed, Sasha was responsible for delivering some of the most lauded mix CDs of the decade. As this surprise contribution to Fabric's mix series shows, his talents have not faded over the years. Beginning with a slew of hazy ambient soundscapes fused with shuffling IDM beats, the progressive house legend slowly ups the pace and intensity as if transitioning from a groovy warm-up set to a mind-altering peak-time one. That means heaps of melodious tech-house, string-laden dancefloor anthems, hypnotic dub techno, tactile deep house and the rushing brilliance that is the Antigone remix of Carl Craig classic "At Les".
