Review: Italian duo Souldynamic have been releasing a steady stream of work on respected labels from King Street and Tribe to BBE, with support from industry heavyweights like Louie Vega and Dennis Ferrer. Their latest release the 'West Side of Afrika' EP see's them land on Samosa Records, comprising of four tracks of Afro-centric house. From the spiritual life music of opening track "Guinee" to the uplifting sunshine vibe of "Faranah" with its uplifting group vocal harmonies, while closing cut "Beyla" is an evocative deep house number with the most killer bassline you will hear on a record this year. Terrific work by these Neapolitan scene veterans!

  2. Addiction (Rich acappella) (3:31)
  3. Addiction (Mike Huckaby remix) (7:33)
  4. Addiction (Boo Williams remix) (6:47)
Review: Excedo Records first served up this Souldynamic featuring Rich Medina single back in 2018. It features a lush deep house groove with a spoken word oval saving up a serious message to the world. It is as relevant today as ever and now gets remixed by some real heads. First is a Souldynamic club mix that is laced with gentle acid twinkling pads, then the late great Mike Huckaby brings the heat with a dubby, stripped back but feel good and super smooth house groove. Fellow US mainstay Boo Williams then gets more kinetic on his jazzy rework.

Funk Purpose Vol 4
Cat: SMS 020. Rel: 08 Jan 21
Funky/Club House
  1. Souldynamic - "Black Night" (6:19)
  2. De Gama - "Crocodile Boogie" (8:01)
  3. HP Vince - "My Baby Got The Blues" (7:51)
  4. AlexNY - "Over" (De Gama Re-Built) (6:45)
Review: Samosa get super funky this new year with a four track offering packed with talents. Souldynamic opens up with the party starting 'Black Night' with its old and dusty disco vibes, soaring strings and brisling vocal. De Gama's 'Crocodile Boogie' is a a high energy affair with plenty of big Rhodes chords and twanging guitar riffs amping up the vibe then HP Vince gets a bit more smooth and seductive with 'My Baby Got The Blues', a Moodymann-esque sort of house cut. AlexNY closes with a clean and crisp disco pumper to complete a varied and vital EP.
