Review: Helping celebrate National Album Day 2022, not to be confused with Record Store Day or Independent Label Day or the other holidays of the musical year, BMG are reissuing Supergrass' breakout debut album I Should Coco. Of course the band evolved in very intriguing ways, mirroring Blur as a group that had enough ideas to transcend the Britpop trappings, but that doesn't stop their mischievous arrival from being a whole heap of fun. From enduring hit 'Alright' to 'Going Out' and 'Caught By The Fuzz', there's still so much to love about this classic album.

Review: English alternative rock band Supergrass dropped their third album back in 1999, following on the wave of Britpop, their hugely successful debut I Should Coco and its successorIn It For The Money. It was another commercial hit, reaching number three in the UK charts and fondly being known as the 'x-ray album' because of the picture on the artwork. Mixing up the prevalent Brit-pop and indie sounds of the era, listening back to it now immediately takes you back to those days, although brothers Gaz and Rob Coombes, Mick Quinn and Danny Goffey also flaunted some of their 70s influences on these tunes, with many of them becoming classics in their own right (see Moving, Pumping On Your Stereo).

Review: Originally released at the height of Britpop and "cool Britannia" (as then brand-new Prime Minister Tony Blair would have dubbed it), Supergrass's second album In It For The Money remains something of a British indie classic. That much is proved by this re-mastered, slightly expanded edition, which backs the original album - a hit-laden fusion of fuzzy indie-rock and late sixties style psychedelic pop - with a bonus 12" featuring a couple of notable rarities. These are worth owning on vinyl, too: there's 'The Animal', a surprisingly club-ready cut that adds trippy electronics and starry synths to a booming, Weatherall-style dub bassline and breakbeats, and a near mythical, funk-fuelled Bentley Rhythm Ace remix of 'When The Sun Hits The Sky' that was an enormous big beat club cut at the time.
