Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***
In 1995, The Advent - then a duo, now the solo project of founder member Cisco Ferreira - released debut album "Elements Of Life". Unlike some of the Advent material that followed, it wasn't all hard techno intensity, offering up just as much hard-wired electro futurism. New album "Life Cycles" doffs a cap to that set both in style and presentation, though it's all-electro approach is arguably more sonically similar to 2003's "Light Years Away". Ferreira's take on electro tends towards the tougher end of the spectrum, with weighty basslines and industrial-strength TR-808 drums being peppered with spacey sounds, bleeping melodies and foreboding acid lines. It's aggressive and dystopian rather than deep and melodic, keeping dancefloors in mind throughout. Crucially, it's also really good.

Review: The Advent is a legendary techno outfit dating back decades. Originally consisting of Mr G and Cisco, now only the latter remains, and he brings a certain hardness to the techno remakes that will connect with those who are fans of that style's recent resurgence. Of course, Perc Trax has always dealt in that stuff so makes a perfect home. 'Planting Seeds' is a manic, dense opener, yet 'Night Seeds' manages to up the ante with even more frenzied grooves. 'Scorched' leaves the warehouser behind and has a more Motor City style, looking to the future and filled with machine soul.

Review: Techno legend The Advent is having a second coming of sorts. Following an impressive run of releases for the likes of Suara, Mord and Drumcode in recent times, the project now solely operated by Cisco Ferreria returns for this brand new belter on Ben Klock's label, following up 2018's 'High Horse'. Klockworks 30 unleashes three previously unreleased live recordings, their timeless quality relinquishing the sparse energy of Ferreira's live sets, both solo and alongside Colin McBean in the 90s. From the heads-down and hypnotic groove of A side cuts "True State" with its infectious, cyclical melodic bass, or the stomping and strobe-lit pace of the adrenalising "Foothold", right though to the B side offering Human Form" - a frantic tribal funk workout.

Review: The Advent were hard techno pioneers who headlined huge shows in the nineties. Now, that is a sound that is very much en vogue: enter a new album on Rotterdam label Mord from the one remaining member, Cisco. "Shadows" wastes no time in smashing you over the head with powerful drum programming, linear percussion and underlapping bass. That is basically the template for all eight tracks, with subtle tweaks and variations along the way that make it a workman like, but utterly essential, album of no frills, high thrills techno.

Review: The Advent made for a perfect addition to the formidable Thema catalogue, and now he's back with the second volume of his "Dorian Blue" series. There are plentiful loops to get creative with, but the fully-formed tracks have their own cyclical qualities to inspire technically-minded DJs. "Structures" is an urgent, tightly wound piledriver, while "Interactive Loop" and "Digitize" cuts both take a sprightly, Motor City-styled approach to electro. With loops derived from these classy tracks and more besides, there's a lot to get the creative juices flowing as well as bodies popping.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Cisco Ferreira continues to fly the flag for rugged hardware powered techno with personality, well over 20 years since he first emerged. The Advent is rightly hailed as a mark of assured quality for good reason, and Thema make a smart move in signing up this fresh grip of tracks from the veteran producer. "Kombination 100" is a lurid, slightly unhinged acid workout from the outer limits, while "Dorian Blue" sets a more moody, aquatic tone with a dash of electro thrown in for good measure. "In Time" brings things up in tempo and attitude, sporting some surging 909 drums guaranteed to get bodies striding with purpose, and then "Rhythm" spins out into trippy electro territory for the heads-down travelers to get spiritually expanded to.

Review: Some 24 years into his career as The Advent, British techno stalwart Cisco Ferreira continues to deliver heavyweight records at an impressive rate. Here he makes his debut on Ben Klock's quietly impressive imprint, offering up a three-track missive in his inimitable style. Interestingly, there's plenty of subtle variety across the EP. Compare and contrast opener "High Horse", a formidably fuzzy and metallic chunk of peak-time techno sleaze rich in wonky vocal samples and booming bass, and the jacking techno loop-funk of "Sound Pove", which boasts plenty of restless drum machine handclaps and trippy musical samples. Sandwiched in between you'll find "Un Named", a smoother and deeper peak-time workout that's nevertheless still tough as teak.

He is widely-accepted as one of the best producers and engineers ever to come from the techno scene and has produced countless techno masterpieces for most top labels over the last 12 years. After a short break his Kombination Research label is back with new material. As usual with Advent the production is deadly and the A1 track is a killer with its rolling percussion and fat groove. On the flip we have another techno bomb plus a superb electro monster. What a return!!
