Review: This is the sixth album by the Bristolian production duo The Allergies (DJ Moneyshot and Rackabeat), widely known for their funky, hard-hitting hip-hop originals. With cameos from the likes of Bootie Brown, Andy Cooper, and Dele Sosimi, their latest album 'Tear The Place Up' is a rollicking whirl, and has rightfully been touted as "hip-hop meets Tarantino", with many a cheesy thriller film reference and floor-shaking beat in tow.

Never Gonna Let Go (3:46)
Review: Jalapeno remains one of the hottest and most spicy labels out there for hip hop lovers, and now it is The Allergies who bring the heat on a new and limited edition 7". They kick this one off with 'Stanky Funk' which features Bootie Brown and brings some old school cool, plenty of retro organ chords and noodling basslines that will tie the dance floor in knots. 'Never Gonna Let Go' then ups the ante with even more raw and hard hitting breaks next to big vocals and driving brass.

Vamonos (feat Andy Cooper & Marietta Smith) (3:15)
Review: The Allergies are now well respected and much loved in their field. They have rolled out killer albums and EPs at a rate of knots and always with real funk at their core. This is the Bristol band's second sizzling single of the year on the Jalapeno label and it is another doozy. 'Hypnotise' is a really psychedelic sound with squelchy synths and big horns, Afro vocals, finger clicks and swaggering beats all sure to pump any party. 'Vamonos' (feat Andy Cooper & Marietta Smith) is a high speed and Latin flecked funk chaser with manic clapping, fast spoken-rapped bars and big horns.

Nuff Respect (feat Andy Cooper) (3:39)
Review: Clear the way when you see them coming through! Three albums deep since 2016, Jalapeno's in-house funk machine The Allergies wheel up with more brand new material. "Every Trick In The Book" shakes and slides with a wry psychedelic groove, a familiar vocal, big horns and lavish dollops of the feel-good flare the Bristol duo have made their signature. Need something spicier? Flip over for "Nuff Respect" where long-standing MC partner in vibes Andy Cooper steps up to cover one of the all time OGs: Big Daddy Kane. Back up and bow.

Going To The Party (feat Lyrics Born - extended 45 mix) (3:56)
Utility Man (feat Andy Cooper) (3:27)
Review: UK beatmakers The Allergies are absolute Jalapeno mainstays who always serve up suitably sizzling and funky sounds. Following on form their last album Promised Land here back in September 2021, two of the singles from it now get pressed up to 7". The a-side is an extended version of 'Going To The Party' (feat Lyrics Born) with big drum breaks, live vocals and an atmospheric back and forth with super sized horns. 'Utility Man' (feat Andy Cooper) is a deeper, smoother cut with some mega slick vocal rhythms and lovely double bass sounds to get you bumping.

Review: Is there a more hard-working pair of party-starters than the Allergies' Rackabeat and DJ Moneyshot? The Bristol-based duo have been prolific over the last few years, yet the quality of their work seemingly hasn't suffered. Promised Land, their fifth album, is another invigorating, thrill-a-minute ride through hip-hop/funk/soul/rock/breakbeat fusion, where almost every cut is ripe for dancefloor plays. Highlights include the bluesy breakbeat bustle of 'Working On Me', the scratch-happy, Fatboy Slim-esque fun of 'Jumping Off', growling Dynamite MC hook-up 'Lean On You' (which reminded us a little of Plantlife), soul stomper 'Love Somebody' and 'Are You Ready', where Ugly Duckling's Andy Cooper and singer Marietta Smith both make their mark.

Review: The JalapeNo label never fails to serve up the sort of hot and spicy funk sounds that electrify dance floors. It is UK beatmakers The Allergies who take care of this one with fire-in-the-hole future classics that pack powerful punches with their famous signature sound. First up is the vintage funk of 'Love Somebody' with its big and beefy breaks and vintage sounds. On the flipside is 'Promised Land' which is the title track from the forthcoming album. It's a big and bulky breakbeat smasher that will get the feet tapping and the fists pumping.

Review: Jalapeno Records is one of UK's funkiest dance labels and is has been for ages. Bristol beatmakers The Allergies are just as funky and always serve up a massive dose of sunshine on their Latin flecked sounds. The opener here is 'Move On Baby' and is one of the best tunes the pair have ever laid down. Its packed with great samples, a high speed 60s spy theme rhythm and vintage rhythm 'n' blues vocals over energetic drum breaks. It is a textbook offering form this duo with all the big hooks and horns you need to carry you to the next level. B-side banger 'Are You Ready' is a stomping soul sessions with huge vocal work from Miss Marietta Smith.

Working On Me (3:21)
Review: Times may change and life may evolve, but the Allergies will always be unashamed party-starters whose records are both pleasingly heavy and instantly accessible. By now, you shouldn't need further proof og their skills in this department, but if you do, the Bristol combo's latest "45" is a lesson is dancefloor-igniting goodness. 'Lean on You' is a live and funk-fuelled as you'd expect, with distinctive flash-fried funk-rock guitar riffs, bustling, interestingly slung breakbeats and a fine lead vocal from Dynamite MC. Over on the flip, 'Working on Me' is a more bluesy, cut-and-paste funk breaks number that's guaranteed to get feet moving out on the dancefloor.

Gather Around (3:23)
Review: Bristolian funkateers and confirmed party-rockers the Allergies have enjoyed a pretty prosperous 2020, with the release of their fourth studio album being followed by a string of singles - a number of which ending up riding high in the NACC US college radio sharts. 'Jumping Off', their final single of the year, is another intensely upbeat, club-ready affair, with regular mic man Andy Cooper (of Ugly Duckling fame) and a crew of female backing vocalists riding a bombastic, party-igniting groove that sits somewhere between hip-hop and deep funk. Flipside 'Gather Around', a bluesy, gospel-tinged stomper full of heady Hammond licks, jazzy bass and infectious verse vocals, is equally as potent.

Review: Even by their usual high standards, the Allergies new LP - their fourth in total - is a particularly kaleidoscopic, party-starting affair. It sees the popular Bristol duo join forces with a series of guest vocals and MCs, most notably regular rapper Andy Cooper and cheeky scene veterans the Cuban Brothers, to deliver a series of funk-fuelled workouts that variously mix and match elements of hip-hop, mambo, stomping Northern Soul, deep funk, jazz and horn-heavy 1970s soul. While the samples of old are still present, it's the tightness and weightiness of the live instruments and strong vocals that make "Say The Word" such a terrific listen. In our opinion it's their strongest collection of work to date, and that's saying something. Bravo!

Lightning In A Bottle (feat Andy Cooper) (3:22)
Review: If pure party-starting pleasure is your thing, you'll find plenty of instant gratification within the bulging catalogue of Bristol boys The Allergies. Alternatively, you could start with the pair's new seven-inch single, which boasts two steaming summer anthems in the making. Their old pals the Cuban Boys guest on A-side "Let Them Know", adding their distinctive rapped and sung vocals to a hip-swinging mambo-influenced backing track full to bursting with Cuban rhythms, jaunty guitar licks and barrio horns. Over on the flip, regular collaborator Andy Cooper raps his way through a fiery funk-rock-meets hip-hop bomb that will have hands shooting skywards faster than you can say, "Mine's a Tequila shooter!"

Felony (3:18)
Rile 'Em Up (feat Andy Cooper & Marietta Smith) (3:29)
Review: The Allergies first double A-side of the year is so strong, we reckon it may well be one of their best singles to date. A-side "Felony" is particularly potent: a hybrid Northern/Southern Soul stomper rich in crunchy drums, heavy bass, punchy horns and heart-aching vocal samples lifted from (we think) an obscure soul record. The production is formidably fuzzy, making it sound like something recorded in Detroit or Memphis in the 1960s rather than cooked up in their studio in 2019. Flipside "Rile 'Em Up" is similarly weighty, though this time they're off on a Latin funk tip with a little help from regular rapper Andy Cooper, soul-stress Marietta Smith, saxophonist Mr Woodnote and a handful of killer boogaloo samples.

Review: Aside from releasing 2 albums for the imprint, Bristol's The Allergies have been a pillar of the Jalapeno label's success over the years, helping the label find its feet amid the ever-growing broken beat scene. The duo return to the catalogue with a classic helping of their very own breakbeat science, first up with the vocal-led charm of "Dance Now", a commercially-minded dancehall anthem that strays into pop and r&b with utter ease. On the flip, Andy Cooper features on the rap-pop hybrid vocals of "Fade Away", a feel-good party tune that is solely focused on getting you to move!

As always, it's an all-out funkathon with full eyes on the party prize. "Can't Keep Working This Hard" jumps with a classic JB style break with some gutsy, raw soul vocal chops while "Run It Back" sees them tagging up with Andy Cooper once again with another classic spitfire rap jam that you know you'll be air rapping to within two or three listens. Review: The final single to be taken from Moneyshot and Rackabeat's hugely successful debut album As We Do Our Thing, "You Wouldn't know" and "Special People" close the LP cycle with fitting party spirit. The former is a dense weave of horn samples and well-known vocal hooks over some deliciously swashbuckling beats while the latter is a sweatier funk groove that's reminiscent of the classier end of big beat's golden era but with more original funk spirit. Rumour has it they're already deep into their second album...

Review: What a trip it's been for The Allergies; rolling from one killer album to the next, funk is flying from their HQ at a rate of knots. Here are two fine examples from their last LP Push On, both featuring their long-time friend and MC from Andy Cooper. Best known for his witty wordplay and character on Ugly Duckling records, here Andy gets to show off both sides to his expansive flow; "Main Event" is a chubby disco groove laced with mountains of funk, creating space for Andy's laidback-but-hypey charm. In perfect contrast "Buzzsaw" is a much sweatier funk jam allowing Cooper to get rapid and tongue-twisty in a way that only he knows how. Keep on pushing...
