Review: Michel Amato has weathered more than a few rises and falls of electro, not least alongside Miss Kittin during the heady years of electroclash. At all times his sound has stayed true to a focus on dark side dystopia, and that comes through in abundance on this new drop for Dutch label Mindri. The vibe is edgy and unsettled, but of course it also slams where it counts too, with 'Forgotten Technology' in particular primed to do some serious damage in the dance. It's not all peak time prowess though - 'Alexia' is a captivating cruise through moodier realms which at times call to mind The Other People Place and 'The City Of The Dead' delights in its devilish, slow-creeping analogue perfection.

At Night

The Night Flight
Review: ***B-STOCK: Record has very light surface marks/smudges, but otherwise in perfect working condition***

This tidy EP gathers together some of The Hacker's most sought-after early tracks, all of which have been re-mastered to leave them sounding weightier than ever. First up is the pulsating brilliance of electro-techno fusion workout "At Night", which - like two other cuts on the EP - first appeared on legendary 1998 12" "A Strange Day". This prime chunk of mind-altering body music is swiftly followed by the sparkling, saucer-eyed alien electro-funk of "Leather Dreams" and the hard-wired Kraftwerk style electro heaviness of "Body Electric" (a fuzz-soaked slammer based around the Robots' "Numbers" that initially came out in 1998). "The Night Flight", a bubbly Drexciya style number from 1999, completes a fantastic package.

Review: 2017 has been a good year for fans of The Hacker AKA long-serving producer Michel Amato. Having already impressed via rock solid EPs on Stilleben and Bordello a Parigi, Amato delivers his first full-length excursion since 2014. As you'd probably expect, Les Theatre Des Operations tends towards the alien and intergalactic, with Amato serving up a range of tracks rich in bleeping electronic melodies, unfussy drum machine rhythms and angular, TB-303 style basslines. As usual, the eight tracks neatly blur the boundaries between techno and electro - both rhythmically and sonically - while regular collaborator Miss Kittin lends a hand on moody and mind-altering LP highlight "Time X", adding some typically sleazy and stylish spoken word vocals.

Through The Ether
Review: Veteran of the fist-pumping kind of electro inhabited by Miss Kittin and I-F, it's not so often you see a new release from The Hacker these days. Still, he's made it back to deliver three Italo-flavoured nuggets on Tigersushi in the style of romantic 80s arpeggios and fat synths he made his name on. "Through The Ether" is unashamedly cosmic in its tone, boasting elegiac reams of melody over those steadily pulsing bass notes. A rasping snare gives "Mind Games" a marginally tougher edge, but really this is sweet songwriting for swooning swingers on the dancefloor.

Shockwave (Gesaffelsteing remix)
Shockwave (Mark Archer remix)
Review: Clearly Magical Voyage, The Hacker's recent Italo indebted EP for Tigersushi has piqued the legendary French producer's interest in revivalist material away from his familiar electro heavy sound. Whilst trace elements of The Hacker's sound are still more than apparent on "Shockwave", the track is an obvious homage to the 90s acid techno sound pioneered by R&S Records (when J Beltram and not J Blake was the figurehead). Gesaffelstein, a compatriot heavily indebted by The Hacker's electroclash era output, is a wise choice to remix the track given his continuing popularity and Different should also be commended for enlisting Altern8's Mark Archer to flip the track into a potent rave ready concoction of original break beats and acid house motifs.

It Was Tomorrow
Planet 89
Review: Touring touring touring. That's what The Hacker did most of his time since the release of his last album "Reves Mecaniques". That's almost two years of traveling all over the world! Actually the title of the vinyl came out during a lunch the day after he played as a guest for Front 242. After all this time The Hacker felt he needed to come with something new, fresh, unexpected. So what about a almost 11 minute long track?! Deep, groovy, spatial "It Was Tomorrow" is one of these tracks you should listen to whilst watching the new Logan's Run movie. "Planet 89" with his vocal loop "This planet must be destroyed" has been already played heavily by The Hacker during his gigs and is one of the top summer tune of Miss Kittin, David Caretta and Angel Molina amongst others. Darker and hypnotic, a no-brainer for the clubs!

Reedale Rise - "Lux" (5:51)
Derek Carr - "The Gap" (6:22)
Review: 20/20 Vision have firmly gaffa taped their flag to the electro antennae with "Exit Planet Earth", a new compilation series celebrating veterans and newcomers in the business of tweaked out machine funk. The Hacker is up first with "Positif/Negatif", a rubbery, FX-laden workout with plenty of uneasy space around the core rhythm section. 214 follows up with the decidedly creepy, sound design-embellished "Testy Robot". On the flip Reedale Rise brings something a bit livelier with the plush synth flex pinging through "Lux". Derek Carr completes the set with "The Gap", a lush slice of melancholic machine dreaming for mellower moments.

Review: Bordello is back with a new compilation series: Diamonds In The Night. An homage to the hours of darkness (and the great composer who went by the name of Felli - R.I.P.). From ecstatic peak time dance floor action to erotic euphoria and its more edgy after hours just before dawn. For the first volume we've selected four fine diamonds by The Hacker and Voiron from France, Armonics from Italy and Discobeton from Bulgaria.

Through darkness diamonds spread their richest light...
