Review: Ukraine's Yan Cook is one of those low-key but highly skilled producers who have mastered the art of turning out consistently excellent techno cuts. It is Planet Rhythm that snap him up now for more of his linear bangers starting with the moody and paranoid opener 'Hydraulic', a pressurised cut that will bowl any dancefloor over. 'Null' then gets more gritty and textured as it rocks back and forth and 'Imla' (Red Rooms remix) takes a more subliminal and stripped-back approach to techno hypnosis.

'Balance Point' is a razor-sharp workout in the Robert Hood tradition, with more than enough heft to move a big space, while 'Collateral Damage' follows a similarly laser-eyed premise. 'Late Night Kyiv' has a slightly softer approach thanks to its fluid synth lines and groovier rhythm section, while 'Pulsar' opts for a psychoactive tone to tweak the synapses in a masterful display of techno engineering.

Review: Yan Cooked has been crafting no nonsense and fad free techno weapons for a mighty long time on plenty of the scene's most assured labels. His own Cooked is one of them by now and this is where he returns for a tenth outing in the form of his Distorted Memories EP. 'Sweat' is a punchy opening salvo with gritty claps and grainy techno drums leaning into a stiff breeze. 'Reason' has screwy saw tooth synths that sound truly mad and the title cut that hurries along at a quicker pace with rattling metal panels and thwacking great hits. 'Crab' is a different vibe entirely - twisted drums and breaks and lashings of acidic synth work.

Review: Yan Cook steps away from his Cooked label with another hefty offering of fulsome techno, this time on his other regular label, Delsin. As always with this man, this is powerful peak time techno with great functionality but also plenty of form. Tolling kicks and wall-rattling chords come together in various different ways as he gets dancing on the bumpy 'Buddy' before 'Lemur' brings more serene and dubby vibes. 'Mirror Maze' is a mind-altering affair and 'Gambler' then layer sup fat synth undulations with smooth drums and vast wet clasp. Lovely stuff.

Review: Yan Cook is back once again on his own Cooked label with another hefty portion of fulsome techno. This is chest-beating, peak-time stuff to be heard in darkened warehouses amongst a mass of writing and sweaty bodies. There are no frills here, just straight up weapons such as 'Nocturnal' with its lumpy, rolling kicks and wall-rattling chords up top. 'Empty Dancefloors' is a wild acid workout straight from a 90s video game and 'Antimatter' is built on more gigantic, rolling kick drums with industrial effects and fizzing synths fleshing things out before 'Exomoon' closes with a more serene melodic outlook.

Review: Widely admired techno craftsman Yan Cook serves up four of his most sublime cuts on this new, blue 12" for Planet Rhythm. It sounds as good as it looks right for the first tune with 'Roller' being an absolute definition of that slick and seductive techno sound. 'MoonFlow' then gets more turbulent with its sheet metal synths and howling solar winds adding drama to the fat drums. 'Beacon' then locks you into a clipped drum and bass loop, with rattling industrial motifs and a haunting sense of post-human bleakness. 'Synthetic Soul' is covered with fizzing static and warm, heavy dub drums. Perfection.

Review: Yan Cook's own 'Cooked' series serves up its second instalment here and once again he is ready to fry your brain. 'Proximity' is a masterclass in getting a lot from a little - the simple hi hats, the grind bas, the heavy kicks - they all add up to a fearsome groove. Things get more warped on 'Echus Chasma', with its meandering bass trying to break free from the regimented drums, then 'Quicksand' gets back to straight up linear business with plenty of style. There is a high speed chase on during 'Mara,' where the drums and minimal synth lines try to outrun each other and leave you utterly transfixed.

Now he heads to Ukraine's Cooked, a young but perfectly formed imprint, and kicks off his EP with 'Blades,' which is all melon twisted synths and driving techno kicks. 'Whistleblower' then slips into a deeply atmospheric groove with gurgling bass and watery effects and 'Grom' is all about the swing in the drums. Gritty textures and insistent claps add to the thrill of it all and 'Skyhigh' is a more frosty dub techno cut that leaves out breathless.

Review: The always visceral techno craftsman Yan Cook is back with more big room destruction. He steps away from his usual Delsin home to land on the Ukrainian hotbed Cooked. "Counterclockwise" is a thrilling track with hammering kicks and electrifying synths tying the groove in knots. "Abstract" is dark and even more twisted, with kicks so big they will crumble the foundations of any club. The busy, dense and complex styles continues on the rave "Tidal Disruption" before "Noiser" sinks into a more hypnotic and stripped back groove. This one is in a rush, and will have yo in the same state in no time.

Review: Ukranian label Mutex have been plying their trade in high-quality techno since 2010, and now come forth with a full-bodied various artists EP that makes for an ideal summation of what the label is all about. Yan Cook brings a grainy set of textures to the fore on "99", but keeps the energy levels up with some crafty dynamics in the track to keep things moving. Mays has a clear love for dub techno chords, but the way they get deployed at syncopating intervals in the bar creates a wonderfully disorientating effect on "Rz". Things are more linear on Woo York's "Glory", but still the sound design and attention to detail on the driving chord lines and prominent drums make for a hooky track. Exploit is the more edgy of the choices on offer, as "2022" nags its way into a paranoid melodic loop built for uneasy moments on pitch black dancefloors.

Review: There's a simple yet compelling concept to Berlin label Reclaim Your City, with each release showcasing different techno-centric regions across the globe. Previous editions have canvassed Berlin, Paris, Rome and Barcelona and featured high profile names like Subjected, Zadig, and Giorgi Gigli. Dnepr and Vancouver are the locations here and the standard of artists is just as high and comes with a personal dedication to M_Rec founder Max_M, whose passing this year is still being felt among the techno community. Naturally Dnepr's Stanislav Tolkachev features, laying down a hefty A-side closer in "Follow Me" with more restrained efforts from Subforms and The Automatic Message offering some respite.

Review: The Weekend Circuit imprint have had an impressive two years since their first release by Dax J back in 2013. Since then, they have released relentless dance floor missiles by the likes of Developer, Rommek and Italy's Antonio De Angelis. This week, the label inaugurate the start of their Ground Fault Interrupt series with a four-tracker by its best and brightest: "Knights Of The Round" by Dax J takes a menacing kick drum and chucks it over noisy melodies and hypnotic bundles of ambience, Yan Cook's "Hidden" is deeper and more dubbed-out, "Control Room" by Developer himself is a wonky techno brain-melter in true Detroit style, while Antonio De Angelis goes all icy and stiff-necked on the chilling beats of "Polar". A techno affair.
