Review: Portland-based Aaron Carlson is AC$ and this is his third outing on the cult Sakskobing label. Once again he comes at house music from a unique vantage point and mixes up the rawness of Motor City hero Omar-S with the disco dalliances of Metro Area and the deep house of Berlin. His tunes are packed with character as well as funky drum patterns such as on the seductive lo-fi house of 'Patio Protocol'. 'No Jello' is a bumping Chicago house cut with nice frayed edges and 'The Big Black Slot' is cosmic tech house with soulful heart. EPs this fresh and classy don't come along often.

Review: This rather unique and otherworldly EP from Dan Andrei is a world all unto itself. While this is a mood conveyed by its somewhat Lovecraftian front cover, the three tracks found inside are equally rare in sound. Matter-of-fact and up-front, yet tentacular, the sonics heard on the lead track 'Ultraviolet' and the closer 'I Dream Of Shrimp' put forward a kind of alien honesty, as if our extraterrestrial visitors have absolutely no fear, and come in peace. It's no wonder this music is able to bridge gaps; it's seen the Romanian artist butt heads with the best and brightest in the international breaks and minimal scene, of late.

Review: British producer, party set designer and DJ Angel D'Lite is known for her sickly sweet and high energy mixes and solo work. An avid vinyl collector and happy hardcore indulger, '303 Dalmations' feels like biting into a sour sweet and the headrush from the sugar high thereafter. 'Just Trippin' and '7am' are evocative of the 90s records that D'Lite digs for in her local shops and collection and are bubbly dance tracks with classic breakbeats (Producers will recognise the opening amen break vocal sample on 'Liquid Skies' very well). The feel of the EP is a classic club experience, and you can't help but dance along and smile - as D'Lite says herself "Happy Hardcore is good for the soul".

Review: The Fourier label is back with more minimal dance floor magic, and the second release is a collaborative affair packed with talent. It's Aztec, Dark Male, Rob Bellfield and The Vast Profound who all come through here and start off with 'Sweet Music', a nice balmy and dubby cut for zoned out listening .'Unlimited Apex' pairs pensive basslines with smeared and expansive pads, then 'Standard Model' has a more warped and mind-melting cosmic take on warm, deep rolling tech. 'Silence After The Storm' is the gorgeously serene closer. Classy stuff for sure.

Review: Daniel Avery's heartfelt tribute to the late, great Andrew Weatherall, the melancholic masterpiece that is 'Lone Swordsmen', was one of the standout tracks on his most recent album, the critically acclaimed Ultra Truth. Here the track returns in remixed form, with Throbbing Gristle's Chris Carter putting his spin on Avery's bittersweet, late-90s style IDM gem. Carter's version is a touch warmer and more percussively up-beat, with Avery's lilting lead lines, poignant melodies and glistening electronic motifs rising above a slipped breakbeat and moody bass. It's an excellent remix all told, and a fine example of how to rework on already excellent track to enhance its key features.

Review: ScruScru is a name you might well recognise but it is fair to say you might not recognise his work on this first release from Talkbox. He shows a very different side off the back of plenty of top edits that bottle up plenty of disco and Bossanova vibes. Here he has teamed up with Russia's dubplate don BR Selecta for an EP full of energy and joy. 'YEAH YEAH' is happy-go-lucky garage with pitched-up vocals and lively drum, 'Get My Gruv' is a kinetic two-stepper and 'Cyberrave' is just that with its all-out synth madness and flurries of breaks, then 'Serious Talking' closes out on a darker jungle tip. A varied and vital 12' for sure.

Review: Brako continues to go it alone with self-titled releases on a self-titled label, and why not? When the tunes are this good you don't need the extra boost of a big name label. There are just two of them on this punchy EP, the first being 'Bandit' which has a snaky bassline and loose-limbed groove. It is run through with spaced out pads, gurgling cosmic lines and silky hooks that are finished to perfection with a great neo-soul vocals. On the flip, 'Police' is a more dubbed-out and stripped-back tune with elastic rhythms and heady pads. Great work.

Review: France's faves Battle Weapons deliver two heady new edits, only for those ready. On the A comes an ingenious, probably never-done-before, almost laughably why-hasn't-anyone-else-ever-thought-of-this-until-now breakbeat rendition of Peter Bjorn & John's 'The Young Folks'. To be frank, they've not done much besides beef up the backbeat a little, but a simple sprucing up is sometimes all a tune needs. On the flip comes a phattened version of 'Forgot About Dre' mashed up with the Azzido Da Bass UK garage classic 'Dooms Night', also produced to hilariously, surreally arresting effect.

Review: Bang on trend grooves from the Vivid camp, exploring the current fascination for all things that intersect both the garage and breaks genres. Lead track 'Wicked & Wild' is the one that leans furthest into UKG territory, its bumpy bassline and MC-style vocal giving it heaps of energy and attitude. Flip side instrumentals 'Push Past It' and 'Ronin' meanwhile, evoke the early 2000s spirit of breaksteppers such as Horsepower Productions, the latter especially maintaining the bassline pressure and adding it to the more hardcore vibe of rawer, sampled percussion. Review: It's still hard to keep up with all of Burnski's many different labels, but we're not complaining. This one, Constant Black, mixes up things with a tech and minimal twist and next to do so is Daniel Akbar. 'What' soon wins you over with its kinetic and infectious drum programming and smart samples - a phased vocal and a twisted synth lead. 'Retreat' gets more physical - the drums bang with an old-school flavour and hint of tribalism. 'Listen' is a big fat tech roller with low slung bass and 'This One' rounds out with some brilliant drum, hits and brain-frying bass sounds. Pow pow, what a record.

Review: Dawl's music is nostalgic by design, with the producer frequently serving up singles, EPs and mini-albums that mine his love of turn-of-the-90s bleep & bass, body-popping electro, acid and breakbeat hardcore. On his latest Tone Dropout four tracker, he continues in this vein, with predictably entertaining results. He first peppers a TR-808 driven electro groove with gnarled synth syabs and intergalactic electronics on 'Total Annihilation', before opting for a more breathless, action packed and squelch-sporting electro flex on 'Infiltrator'. Review: Deejay Skamrok kicks off this own new self titled label with a a live session. 'Piece fo the Rock 1 & 2' is a breaks mix sampler featuring a selection of beats from the full length mixes. The a-side is all mad scratching and raw breaks with yelp gin vocal stabs and some tight as you like funk drumming. It's a red hot joint designed to blow up the floor. Flip it over and there is a more jazzed up sound. Here the tinny steel drums dart about the mix with more essential cop that starts off the label on a fine footing.

Now he's up on Friday's Funky 45 with a hip-hop rooted re-flip to get party people the world over rocking out. Review: Two fresh names make a big splash in the still-strong UK hardcore scene. Coming to DJ Seduction's Burning Bush Communciations for an unlikely Florence And The Machine remix, we hear a breaks-backed version of 'You Got The Love' by DJ-X-Cess, but with re-recorded vocals that sound more to have been lifted from a passionate soul B-side than directly from the indie pop darling. It works very well, admittedly. Then also comes a remix of Ghost Unit's 'Air Cooled' by DJ X Cess, who adds to the original a wally, impossible-not-to-dance-to piano mix.

Review: There is a new hound in the pound of Berlin label 777. Dogpatrol bares his teeth with this razor sharp EP of visceral electro. The brilliantly titled 'Came Back From Hell & I Feel Good' opes up with roaming synths and slivery percussive slices over booming drums and broken beats. There is more space in the nimble drums of 'Safari Simulator' while 'The Deep Valley Of Self-Neglect' has a heavy, pounding and linear groove. 'Usingmyquirk' brings a haunting vibe with its low end oscillations and shimmering pads and 'Granular Memory Experience' is a wonky and kinetic machine workout for the afters.

Review: Moscow label FrouFrouFrou marks its eighth release with an all-star lineup. A braggadocious cut from French DJ Dylan Dylan opens up Side A, a funk-step number with a great vocal sample. Belgium producer Hatt.D steps up next for something more sultry in 'Emotionz (Part 2)', with a quintessential 90s flare complete with 808 State Loon calls. Speaking of birds, Australian disco collector Dawn Again's 'I'm Like a Bird' is a swansong of beeping synths and atmospheric drone synths and Manhood offers up a tropical vibe with a mid-tempo sunny house cut. Continuing on the expansive summer atmosphere, German DJ Palmate offers up a reverb-synth laden upbeat jam in 'Departure' that prefaces the tech-heavy deep house 'Pluto' by DJ Bigspin. After dropping some well received long players as Alloy Sea Elian is now returning to her own name to develop her sound. The first four track EP of this new era is a brilliant one with brilliantly deft sound design, tracks that are rhythmically powerful but graceful; and elegant in design and moods that are nothing less than captivating. The opener 'Itch Twitch' is a real standout here with its flute loops and humid atmospheres.

Review: Mint Condition has so far proved adept at licensing and reissuing high-grade fare from the 1990s that many people may have missed out on first time around. This single from Dylan Beale, one of two he released as Eze-Ozo back in 1991, is undoubtedly essential: a two-track bleep & breaks excursion that strikes a perfect balance between the alien, sci-fi sounding weight of purist bleep and the rolling energy of early breakbeat hardcore. 'How To Stay Alive' is shuffling, crunchy and sub-heavy, with nods to trippy US deep house as well as early Warp releases, while 'Kick The Break In' comes from the same sonic space as the contemporaneous Original Clique and Ubik releases.

Review: Filth Rich gets suitably filthy on this fresh outing on Zimp. His Rave EP collides many different influences from techno to electro, acid to rave, and also chucks in some classic samples to really make the tunes pop. The first is a peak-time breakbeat bruiser with slapping hits and yelping vocals, then 'Hippies Gathering' is a prog techno classic from the late 90s Castle Morten rave scene. Randolph offers his own Filthy Rave remix that gets even more wild and included along the way are some sample-tactic snippets to liven up your set no end.

Review: The first anyone heard from Robert Fleck was an early drop on Well Street back in 2018, and it's been quiet since then. Anyone following Well Street knows it's a hot tip for upfront artists in the fractured fissures of the UK underground, and Fleck makes a welcome return to prove the point. There's a lot of different touchstones you could point to on this release, from nimble-footed broken beat and a whiff of nu jazz orchestration, not to mention a bass music sensibility and an appreciation for deeper strains of UK techno. But more than all that, Fleck merges his unique spread of influences into something fresh and unique, comfortably slipping between conventional genre markings with the kind of flair we've come to expect from Well Street.

Review: The Florence label is back with more of its high grade funk here with the eponymous artist or artists behind another healthy dose on this new 7". 'Dancing' is a raw sound with slapping drum hits and plenty of noodling synth lines that elevate the whole thing next to big horns. But the icing on the cake is of course the raw vocal lead that is offset by some more sooth female coos. A more funky and bouncy break is the foundation of the flipside joint 'Be My Baby' with its alluring vocals and raw 60s aesthetic serving to get you up on your toes.

Review: It's all about the early 90s vibes on this 12" from Fauvre as four underground anthems from the era are revisited. Forty Wings Dynamo's 'Inversion' has a dubby, dreamy progressive house feel, its epic outlook and echoing percussion inevitably bringing Leftfield's first handful of 12"s to mind, before 'Raveolution' (Acid mix) brings a more jungle techno feel with sliced up breaks skittering around the four-to-the-floor kicks. Pedro Bertho's 'TOITOI' starts side two, nodding to Jaydee's 'Plastic Dreams' with its soulful keys creating magic over a simple, banging techno framework before COEO's 'Vertigo' gets to work with its proto-breakbeat beats and one utterly orgasmic breakdown. Review: Aiden Francis brings a superb mix of influences to this EP, from trance to breaks, house to tech house and it makes for a third fine offering from this young but promising Ellipse label. 'Atacama' opens up with blistering pace and molten synths tightly woven over the propulsive drums. 'Twilight' is another track seeped in lush melodies and with a throwback techno sounds that is full of subtle dancefloor electronics. 'Awareness' (Sunset mix) is one to get the hands in the air as the trancey chords and acid rain down. Energy levels don't dip on the flip either on this most powerful and consuming of space-techno trips.

Review: The Psychic label comes on strong with its inaugural EP here from Philadelphia-based rave rebel Furtive. His Muscles Hug Your Bones EP is indeed a rugged and tough affair that opens with the searching psychedelic synths of 'Convoke', an intensely atmospheric piece that sounds like being trapped in a factory in meltdown. The title track is a strobe lit techno anthem that takes no prisoners and 'I Always Try To Be This Gentle' then slows it down, layering up grimy sounds, smeared metal pads and rickety drums. 'Intrepid Smiles (Golden)' shits down with a more hopeful vibe that takes you into a brighter future.

Review: The second drop on Ouroboros Ltd comes from Grey Pantone, aka Berlin-based producer Andres, making his debut release with this assured package of uptempo tech-funk rollers. 'Acid Break' is an instructive title, but the track is finely balanced between warm synth touches and some nimble 303 action darting around a light-footed breakbeat. 'Get Down' is a crisp electro workout with the snappiest of 808 lines driving the expressive splashes of melody, and 'Gypsy Drumming' turns up the heat with a busy cut that's equal parts squelchy and soulful. Review: Pilot is one of the many labels in the orbit of the unstoppable production force that is Burnski aka garage innovator Instinct. It deals in proper club tackle from a wide range of artists and here it is Hatori Hanso that offers up the brilliance. 'Low Rider' opens with a very familiar hook and some deep, deep half sung, half spoken vocal, before nimble live bass, brass and crispy breakbeats bring the party. 'Cherry On The Cake' is a lively house cut littered with James Brown samples and screwy synths that keep the pressure on. 'Don't Know Why?' closes proceedings in a more cool and breezy tech house mood, with sci-fi designs, to complete a set of varied but reliable frug-starters.

Review: French label Battle Weapons does it again here with another superb reissue of a dynamic fusion of vintage soul-jazz and catchy beats. They come from Hardly Subtle featuring Peggy Lee, whose iconic vocals soar over Hardly's masterful production to utterly alluring effect. The track pulsates with a gently infectious energy and infuses organic drums with modern electronic rhythms. It is a great one among many from Peggy Lee, and on the flipside you're treated to a superb Wonderlove edit of her sumptuous take on the Otis Reding classic 'Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay'.

Review: We have a mysterious pressing this week from Hcsvntdracones (however that is pronounced) with what has been best described elsewhere as 'Highly effective House DJ weaponry' and that's fairly spot on! Both sides are reworks of tracks by the legendary Romanthony (RIP). On the A side, we have a trippy minimal techno style rework of his anthem '(The) Wanderer', followed over on the flip by a 303 breakbeat rendition of his 1994 song 'In The Mix' (Acidic Tendencies Edit) most famously remixed by Tony Humphries.

Review: Organic Analogue makes it to double figures with a sublime new split EP from HVL and Gacha Bakradze. The A-side is opened up with 'Infinitesimal', a stripped back and icy bit of minimal dub techno, then 'AgneffC01' gets more rhythmically physical with scattered beats and hits and 'Collective Genius' is tense, kinetic techno with a real sense of paranoia. 'Routes' is the first B-side joint with Gacha Bakradze bringing some direct but economical drum machine grooves under meticulous percussion and then 'Chain' layers smeared cosmic pads with twitchy details and 'Widow' ends with a heavy heart. No wonder, then, that a host of eminent DJs like Ben UFO are all over it.

Review: Strap in for more rickety breakbeat workouts here from Imaginary Number on a limited edition heavyweight white label. Opener 'Push' is crunchy as you like with raw drum work and frayed edges to the synths. 'Grv' pairs a lively breakbeat drum loop with bleeping synths and the sort of pent up late night energy that gets any floor going. 'Somebody' is a more macho and texture techno wobbler built on ramshackle drums with wild vocals and last of all is another physical and prickly drum workout 'Fools' that is pure heat, especially with the pitched up and snatched vocal that cuts in.

As always, it's a very fluid affair; washing our souls with their delicate fusion of live instrumentation, analogue wizardry and hypnotic groovemanship. Review: Having made some waves in underground circles thanks to his classy brand of minimal tech house, IZA now makes the leap to vinyl to inaugurate the Norse Projekt label with his Bumbal EP. 'Madness' opens the record up in a classy, stripped-back blend of electro before we swerve directly into the pond courtesy of the title track's suspended drones and pin prick rhythms. 'Pardis' has a little more house-minded thrust in its drums, but IZA is someone who prioritises the less-is-more attitude in his studio concoctions. Don't sleep on the Andrei Ciubuc remix, which adds some dubby shimmers and rubbery acid to 'Pardis'.

Review: Nuremberg's Jayl Funk is a true torch-bearer for the art of funked up breaks to start a party anywhere and everywhere. He's back on Danish label Breakbeat Paradise with another sure-shot 7" of feel-good vocal grooves that should appeal to a huge spectrum of cats ready to get down, not least the A-side joint 'Shake & Boogie' with its infectiously sunny demeanour. 'Not Today' is a more disco-styled affair with snappy Philly string stabs and a slippery groove you could just sink your teeth into. Just watch out for that epic piano breakdown, it might just raise the roof off the joint.

Review: Jeigo dropped a thrilling debut album Cerulean back at the end of 2022, worked in a tune with Elkka for her DJ-Kicks mix and also dropped a mix for Bicep not long ago. Now he follows all that up with a firing four-track EP on Tread Records that again collides different club sounds, great samples and hooky melodies. 'Hatchet's Cave' is hands-in-the-air house euphoria with blistering drums and warped pads, then 'Move X' is a gritty tech bouncer and 'Compulsions' is a bubbly one with crisp hits. Review: To date, Kim Cosmk has generally done her own thing - self-releasing a string of digital-only singles and albums which variously mix and mangle elements of electro, IDM, techno and dubstep. Here she pops up on an established label - Ralph Lawson's 2020 Vision to be exact - for the very first time. First, she whips up a frenzy courtesy of the fuzzy and aggressive riffs of techno roller 'Night Flight', complete with creepy chords and foreboding motifs. She then delivers raw, heavy, industrial-fired electro on 'Ore', whilst warped dubstep and electro are brilliantly mixed on 'Nocturnal'. To round things up nicely, 'Drifting' is a partial vocal number built around a wobbling dubstep bass with punchy electro drums and twinkling pianos.

Review: Following on from his remixes of Robert James' LP Battle Of The Planets, Berlin-based Klix goes in for the kill with four examples of club-friendly grooves that are big on dancefloor dynamics but also boast a delicate sensitivity to melody that's often left behind when it comes to the minimal/tech genre. Check, for instance, the distinctly understated acid undertow to 'Just Tell Me', balanced beautifully with lush, New Order-esque pads, or the almost imperceptible trails of flute left across the landscape of 'Satisfaction'. Best of all is probably 'Squanchy Thoughts' featuring Shibafu No Baga, the vocoders and synth lines rendering it like a post-rave Kraftwerk.

Review: Johannes Kolter is Kolter and is also a producer who went under the name DJOKO. He's been busy this year with plenty of goodness dropping including an album and three EPs. Now comes hit sone, again on his home label Pilot. It is inventive stuff that functions well on the floor as it straddles the worlds of breaks, house and plenty more. 'Got High Again' is lively and dynamic with its squealing leads and dusty breaks, then 'Weirdo' layers up leftfield melodies and blurts of playful synth modulation. 'Prospekt' is a wild fusion of rock riffs and high-speed funky breaks and 'Duck Concert' closes with hardcore drum breaks and soulful synths next to mad scratchinG.
