  1. Red Light District (3:28)
  2. The Game Of Love (4:02)
Review: Building on the heat of last year's "Devil Made Me Do It", Alex Puddu's Afro Soul Prophecy returns with more smoking jazz fusions. "Red Light District" is as hot and illicit as the title suggests thanks to its prominent drums and heated horn work. "The Game Of Love" plays the perfect counter with its much softer, sentimental swoons and loungey dynamics. Instant summer soul soothers.

  1. Get On With The Looking (5:24)
  2. Do You Know (11:17)
  3. Becoming Welcome (17:13)
Review: From his early releases for the mythical Greta Cottage Workshop, outsider house specialist Arnheim has come a long way, and his own Barbara Recordings is now on its way to ruling the downtempo game! In fact, Arnheim's sound are more on the inside than the outside, if this new EP is anything to go by; "Get On With The Looking" is on a Mahogani Music tip, while "Do You Know" stutters its off-kilter groove with magnificent elegance, and "Becoming Welcome" breaks out some fine jazz melodies in what sounds like a truly well-balanced piece of music that sits outside of the generic 'club' atmosphere. Quality assured.

  7. Eros Love & Lies

  9. Dreamers Of Decadence
Review: An Ambassador For Laing sees the Edinburgh-based duo of Marc Dall and Alex Ander further explore their new sound as Dalhous, having previously surfaced with film score influenced gothic pop under the Young Hunting moniker. As Dalhous, the pair has traded in the Young Hunting sound which perhaps sounded a bit too close to Blackest Ever Black label mates Raime for an approach more explicitly concerned with lurching industrial rhythms and sweeping orchestral vistas. Across the eleven tracks on the album, Dalhous explore soundscapes that feel dreamlike yet there's always a sensation matters could take a wholly more foreboding turn at any moment. Standout moments include the bristling instrumental hip-hop of "Who's Here You're Here I'm Here..." and the hazed out finger snaps of "The Cruel Practice Of Art". Overall the album marks another compelling entrant into the Blackest Ever Black canon.

Review: To get away from the 'one track after the other' compilation concept K&D checked in at Havlis Super Sound where their man Alex (don of the echo chambers) has a secret dub-laboratory. There K&D did a dub session on the selected tracks to inject some dynamics and life into it. They took two bottles of Highland Park whisky and their old dub-echoes from the cellar and did a smoked-out dub echo-orgy.

  1. Smoove & Turrell - "Hard Work" (Fab Samperi remix)
  2. The Soul Session - "Soul Desire" (Fab Samperi remix)
Review: A dinky seven inch brimming with funkalicious delights from the Agogo Records camp here, as Catania's captain of the edits Fab Samperi drops two essential dancefloor tweaks for the Hannover label. The A Side sees Samperi turn to his attentions to "Hard Work" a little 2011 B Side gem from Smoove & Turrell, finessing the original's Northern Soul stomp into a smoother slice of soul infused breaks. Grip the flip where Samperi flips the script, turning smouldering downtempo of The Soul Session's "Soul Desire" into a swing blessed uptempo refix augmented by some deft B-Boy touches.

Review: Seven years since the last Smith & Mudd album kissed our ears... Gorthlek is a long-awaited treat that's landed (by no coincidence we suspect) right at the start of prime sandy season. Picking up where they left us (together and as part of the Bison collective), it's every bit as soul soothing, soft-focus and poised as you'd expect. It's the weight and richness that will grab most fans the hardest; amid the floral pastoral instrumentation on tracks such as "Alrick" and "Gorthlek Part 1", there's real swampy bluesy fusion such as "Mr Coats", there's fiddle-flipping cosmic folk on "Enos" and naked piano striking drama on the closure "Gorthlek Part 2". Instrumental Balearic bliss.

Review: New Zealand broken beat soul troupe Sola Rosa served up their sixth album late last year. Now redelivered on vinyl, the 180g weight really brings the earth to their rich funk and versatility. Flickering and flipping from heart-melting soul ("Both Of Us") to party-minded deep funk ("Till We Get It Together", "Till The Sun") via lolloping Amp Fiddler-style street soul ("Right On Time"), Magnetics is the sound of band who know each other's strengths and abilities intimately and play to them incredibly well.

Review: Chip Wickham, who usually goes by the first name of Roger, returns to Madrid's excellent Lovemonk label with a mini LP to inaugurare the start of summer, which means a start to some pretty killer shades of balearica! In fairness, however, this album and the man's sound are much more in line with the jazzy end of the spectrum, breaking beats and forming new, forward-thinking arrangements. For instance, the opening "Shamal Wind" is a wonderful excursion into dreamier realms of the flute, while "Snake Eyes" picks up the tempo and makes way for an album thy can be plaid on your headphones, out on the car speakers, and most certainly in the dance! A wonderfully composed piece of music from a rising talent of true broken beat.
