Review: Alex Ander and Marc Dall, the two dudes behind the Dalhous project, have pretty much restricted their output to the mighty Blackest Ever Black label, but who could blame them? The label has been one of the most consistent and diverse stables for dark and industrial dance and non-dance music over the last five years, a true pinnacle of the 2010's. This latest work, entitled The Composite Moods Collection Vol 1 / House Number 44 is a beast of an album, nineteen piece of sparse and desolate electronic music that has much more in common with a soundtrack than an ambient album. In fact, the chilling backdrops of drones and electro-acoustic wails that flutter over this work are truly a piece of moody melodica, a times loosely infused with melted beats and a ritualistic form of percussion. It's classic BEB material, and if you're into travelling to sinister, cavernous places, this will surely do the trick.

Review: While most ambient and drone producers seem to knock out a new album every few months, Max Wurden prefers to take his time. Thus, Transit is only his fourth album in 14 years. Such infrequency suggests a high quality threshold, and there's pleasingly much to admire. The album's five long pieces are as atmospheric and dreamy as you'd expect, and variously doff a cap to classic IDM, crystalline electronica, dub techno, and the kind of melodious, hypnotic, pop-influenced techno promoted by fellow Cologne residents Kompakt. Standout "Metropole" spits, throbs and pulses magnificently, with its' drawn out grooves and clandestine melodies recalling great ambient techno epics of yore, while closer "Vesper" is little less than an early morning ambient masterpiece.

Asis Part 3 (14:03)
Review: Wania come through with the oddness once again! It's not clear who is behind ASIS, though there are breadcrumbs of info out there that suggests the involvement of main players in Acido, Sex Tags and SUED. It certainly wouldn't surprise us if the name was a cloak for any number of Sex Tags associates to jam in the studio and lay down this 14 minute exercise in abstract sonics!! As with some of the recent Wania releases, "Asis Part 3" is cerebral stuff and we highly recommend it for the weekends you want to kick back and trip out in the company of some strange music. The more adventurous DJs out there might even find some room in the earliest moments of a club night to deploy "Asis Part 3" and lay down a marker for how deep you want to take it!

Review: Elia Perrone is the man behind Unclear Records while fellow Italian Gigi Masin is known for his ambient work since 1986, namely that reissue on Music From Memory (Talk To The Sea) and his involvement in Gaussian Curve. Starting out with the gloomy modern /ambient vibes of "Stella" things gets a bit more optimistic on "Garden Blues" with its captivating groove situated somewhere between trip-hop and shoegaze, whatever it is: it's quite stunning. On the flip Israeli deep house power duo Juju & Jordash deliver a pumping remix of "Stella" which adds some needed dancefloor dynamic on such a version, while Noro Love Mum's remix of "Garden Blues" injects a party starting deep house vibe into it while still retaining the mesmerising and dreamy elements of the original intact quite superbly.

Review: Given the recent proliferation of new releases doffing a cap to both new age music and ethnic sounds from around the World, this reissue of Finis Africae's 1990 set Amazonia seems rather timely. A solo production by long-serving main man Juan Alberto Arteche, the album's ten tracks blend traditional Amazonian instrumentation, tropical birdsong and gentle rhythms with the new age synthesizer refrains with which the Spanish act made their name. From a historical perspective, the album originally appeared at the same time as the ambient house explosion was gathering pace in the UK, and it's easy to draw parallels between Arteche's compositions - as ethnically-minded, jazzy and occasionally experimental as they are - and the work of The KLF and The Orb during the period.

Review: Matthew David McQueen's Leaving Records is right up our figurative alley, and absolutely on point with everything that we love about quirky, cutting-edge electronic music. Being from LA, both the artist - McQueen appears here as MatthewDavid's Mindflight - and the label have their roots dug into the Stones Throw end of the hip-hop spectrum, but the music on Trust The Guide & Glide goes way beyond any simple sampling, and enters the realm of the quintessentially weird. The cover, a sort of hallucinatory dreamworld in some distant fantasy planet, is a perfect representation of the music that follows suit; although the majority of these tracks would normally be categorised as straight-up ambient, we prefer to think of them as dreamy electronica, a gentle wave of euphoria that never truly washes off after listening. If you ever wonder what electronic album you could stick on during a meditation session, then you've hit the jackpot.

Public Voyeurs (7:16)
Relix (14:04)
Fossil Data (9:16)
Tower Of Babble (8:07)
Review: Sometimes, it just takes a label like the US' excellent Further to release music as gnarly and as daring as Strategy's; the recent LP by Nuel, for instance, is a shining example of the way that these dudes like to do things. "Public Voyeurs" sets in motion a sort of sonic whirlpool made up of grainy drones and rhythmic patters of beatless sound that becomes yet more distorted and wild on "Relix". "Fossil Data" is as molecular and alien as you can possibly get, and it's definitely our favourite moment on here - a nod to the Aaron Dilloway fans around - while "Tower Of Babble" scratches and unleashes its rover of harsh distortions left, right and centre in a pool of liquid noise. Sick and highly recommended.

Review: The enigmatic Stephen O'Malley returns. The co-conspirator in seminal projects Sunn O))) and KTL issues the third and final instalment in a series of live solo recordings for Swedish label iDEAL. This follows up the Fuck Fundamentalist Pigs release, recorded only days after the Charlie Hedbo attacks and this release, however as not as direct in its title, is equally poignant given this week's terrorist attacks in Brussels. For those of you who have not had the honour of seeing O'Malley live solo, this is the next best thing as he entrances and hypnotises you with his brooding, textural and minimalist drones via raw voltage, drenched in distortion. Captured on a zoom H4 at Centre Cultural Suisse, Bad Bonn Carte Blanche, Paris, France, on 18th October 2013. Limited to 700 copies. No CD. No digital.

Review: Samuel Van Dijk is evidently one of those annoyingly talented musicians who can turn their hand to any number of styles with the same refined, high standard results. In addition to his prolific techno and electro-focussed output as VC-118A and Mohlao, Van Dijk also moonlights as Multicast Dynamics. Certainly occupying a similar stratosphere to his other endeavours, Multicast Dynamics however differs in that it's not geared for the dancefloor but instead an exploration of texture that brings to mind a gentle journey through the outer realms of space. His planned quadrilogy of Multicast Dynamics albums ends with Outer Envelopes for the excellent Denovali label, and what a fine way to close out the project! Nine tracks deep, the album revels in Van Dijk's capacity for the deep and slowly enveloping composition.
