Review: For Missing Tapes, Minimal Wave has managed to unearth a wealth of previously unheard gems from Dutch electro trailblazer Danny Bosten. Dark electro diggers may be aware of Bosten's early 1980s work, which was initially self-released on cassette, but has also been re-issued since by Minimal Wave and others. The material here was recorded in the same period and rediscovered some years back by the producer. It's similar in style, as you'd expect, with Bosten variously exploring otherworldly electro, sci-fi leaning Italo-disco, stylish, new wave synth workouts, and throbbing proto-techno. What impresses most, though, is the seeming freshness of the material; it might be 35 years old, but it still sounds formidably futuristic.

First Time (7:08)
Become (3:37)
W/O (6:42)
Don't Go (4:41)
Review: Precipitation, or Zefan Sramek as he's known in British Columbia, has been steadily coming out with tight little house bangers over the last three years, but this latest EP for Warsaw's Get The Balance Right might well be his best moment yet. "First Time" is a gentle house journey that somehow manages to weave a subtle line of Detroit electro into its circuit, while "Become" is more of a classic, bass-heavy outsider house tool with a loose groove and an analogue flair. On the B-side, "W/O" injects a warm, soulful blend of harmonies and gentle tones, while "Don't Go" is the sort of house music that Zelda or the Final Fantasy crew would be listening to. Gentle, meditative and recommended. Be quick!

Life Out Of Balance (9:33)
It's You (9:23)
Out From Under (5:40)
Review: First surfacing back in 2006 on UK IDM label SCSI-AV, the Lost Trax project has allegedly been a platform for any number of artists to produce under the cloak of anonymity, all identity shorn so the focus remains on the music. After a clutch of 12"s for Tabernacle at the turn of the decade, Lost Trax was reactivated last year with a contribution to a Shipwrec 12" and now migrates to Rotterdam's finest, Frustrated Funk. On the opening title track, "Life Out Of Balance," Lost Trax display a nervous fidgety energy and a looseness in execution that will sound quite thrilling on the dancefloor, whilst "It's You" is a muddy yet heavenly cut that will appeal to fans of Terekke. Closer "Out From Under" finds crystalline electro rhythms caked in thick tape hiss too.

Review: DMX Krew on Hypercolour? You bet! The UK electro don serves up his trademark style for the tech-house institution who seem to be broadening their horizons: can only be a good thing! Things start off in spectacular fashion with the cute and upbeat "Spiritual Encounter" before settling into some funky and mysterious electro with "Bombay Mix". Hard Copy is reminiscent of the early Hi NRG vibes of Bobby Orlando or Gino Soccio but "Woolly Hat" and "Parallel Universes" are funky, fun loving 4/4 electro grooves that are more typical of the DMX sound. He saves the best for last though, with some darker excursions such as the high octane, Telex sounding "Computational Paradigm Shift" and the smack electro closer "Black Poppy". With electro making an obvious comeback, thank goodness we've still got this legend to show us how it's done. An outstanding effort!

My Stars Or Yours (feat Mr X) (5:56)
Sunday At Battle Ship Key (6:25)
Sunday At Battle Ship Key (JTC remix) (6:19)
Review: Isophlux boss Gosub aka Shad T. Scott from Miami has been releasing since the mid '90s, worked with everyone from Lustmord to Aerosmith and had releases recently on Abstract Forms, Citinite and Barba. He's one of those legends you've yet to discover and to those of you who do know him, well: we're preaching to the choir! Firstly he addresses the most important of all questions: "My Stars Or Yours" where with Mr X he explores the classic sci-fi electro sounds to convincing effect, you can really hear the warmth and analogue soul of vintage machines on this one. "Sunday At Battleship Key" sounds so old-school that you could have mistaken it for a lost tape by Model 500 or 808 State, from the delayed 808 claps right through to those DX7 strings and Caribbean style steel drum preset. Finally on the flip we've got a sweet deep house remix of said track by Ann Arbor's finest James T. Cotton, giving the track his Midas touch as always.

Voironizer (3:18)
Building Voiron (5:38)
After Chez Oim (6:42)
A48 Direction Voiron (6:18)
Review: Parisian producer and DJ Voiron got his break back in 2014 with the Radome EP on Concrete Music and he's popped up on the excellent One Eyed Jacks operated by Photonz as well as Lyon's Rave or Die since then. Across his releases so far, Voiron's shown a willingness to dabble in the crawlspace between acid, electro and techno no it's no surprise to find him land on local concern Nocta Numerica Records! The Paris label may be young but they've impressed with releases from Dynarec and Cold Colours and this bright yellow Voironizer 12" is killer. The title track's usage of synths and drum samples displays a sense of humour redolent of Ceephax Acid Crew, whilst "Building Voiron" and "After Chez Oim" are delightful attempts at classic synthwave.

Review: Clear Edition: If you've seen the Modular synth documentary I Dream of Wires, you'll have been suitably impressed with the soundtrack provided courtesy of Suction Records boss Solvent. Whilst there was a double LP edition of the soundtrack, it didn't feature all the music Solvent had recorded for the documentary. That has now been remedied as Suction lay out this limited addendum 12" (available in three different colours of vinyl) consisting of previously digital only cuts and some fresh remixes. The DJs out there will be happy to see techno cut "Hadron" make the 12" upgrade, whilst the remix of "King Vincent" from Wrangler (featuring Cabaret Voltaire founder Stephen Mallinder) is equally floor-focused. Do check the other remix, of "Sender", which sees Todd Sines adopting his Interval alias for some unsettling modular sonics!!

Output (6:10)
Review: One-sided business with a neat back story to it from the master that is The Maghreban. Whilst visiting his dad, The Maghreban found a bunch of old cassette tapes, one said 'Alex July 84' on it. This tape was from Alexandria, Egypt in the summer of 1984. It had some interesting music recorded on it. Inspired by the sounds, The Maghreban decided to sample them resulting in "Output", a killer six minute jaunt through recycled sonics set to a satisfying electro crunch. We've loved everything The Maghreban has put his name to and this is no different!

Review: Austin TX based Monofonus Press issues Mannequin Records boss Alessandro Adriani's debut album. Indeed he appeared previously for the label last year on the label's IXTAB compilation as Interbrain, his collaboration with NYC's Willie Burns. Montagne Transperenti was recorded between Berlin and his native Rome over the course of several years and can best be described as 'ghoulish body music'. With Adriani being an unrepentant lover of all things vintage and retro within electronic music, you can certainly expect a wide variety of analogue groove experiments on here. Our favourites were the dark Dutch electro influence on the title track and "Planeta Rosso", the uplifting Italo disco odyssey "Fuoco" and the restrained Drexciyan funk of "Rotazione Sincronia".

Homesick (3:15)
Review: Norway's Stian Gjevik has been a consistent player in Belgium's WeMe Records, and it has to be said that he is one of the only Scandinavian artists who is still making electro like it bloody well should be. The Derelict is his second album for the imprint, and its ten glorious slices of mind funk are a journey right from the start of "Resuscitation", to "Homesick". Imagine being stranded on a distant planet where physics are only a distant memory, and sounds have taken the place of voices; it's a realm of electronic dreams, all powered with grizzly 606 percussion and gorgeous, liquid-like synths that form and melt continuously. This is the natural development of greats such as Drexciya, and it is not an album to be underestimated. For fans of DJ Stingray's previous output on the label.

Review: In which Mannequin become the latest label to dip into the vast CDr archives of Legowelt's dormant Strange Life Records. Originally released back in 2007, Mons Testaceum was the debut album from MinimalRome co-founder Heinrich Dressel and the onset of a trilogy dedicated to Monte Testaccio, an artificial mound in Rome composed almost entirely of 'testae', fragments of broken amphorae dating from the time of the Roman Empire. Notable for the prominent usage of Elka Synthex, a legendary Roman synthesizer, Mons Testaceum remains a wonderful curio of the Dressel discography and fans of the Italian's work will delight at the chance to own it on vinyl thanks to MNQ!
