Review: Since making his debut in 2014, Moscow-based Bert H has rapidly become one of the rising stars of soulful drum & bass. His punchy, melodic and rolling productions have previously been showcased on a dizzying array of singles and EPs. Here, he finally delivers his debut album, a vibrant and colourful romp heavy on collaborations with fellow Russian soul-junglist High N Sick and like-minded producers Monroe and Silence Groove. He barely puts a foot wrong throughout, delivering weighty but ear-pleasing tunes that offer a superb balance between melodious musicality, attractive dreaminess and funk-fuelled D&B heaviness. In other words, it's a hugely enjoyable first full-length that gets better with every listen.

Hold On A While (feat Jono McCleery - Alix Perez remix) (4:29)
Night Vision (VIP mix) (5:04)
Trigger Warning (Fracture remix) (4:05)
Review: Shogun soul soldiers Technimatic unleash the parts to some of their best tracks and share them with kindred rolling spirits. The results speak for themselves... Break adds a little dark Brizzle magic to the lads' already on-point west country homage, LSB flips "Parallel" into a seven minute rising feels-lifter while Perez licks up a little switch in the kicks on the bluesy Jono McCleery-fronted "Hold On A While" and Fracture tears "Parallels" a new one with his cutty/shutty break-rattling refix. Complete with two heavy VIPs from Technimatic themselves on red marbled vinyl and you've got yourself a winner.

Transmission (4:12)
Hardcore Harry (4:21)
Dominator Mode (5:06)
Lockdown (4:44)
Dreaming (4:40)
Review: Bristol-based Brazilian S.P.Y has been in fine form this year, churning out the hits at a rate of knots. Here he serves up five more slammers to round off the well-received Alone in the Dark trilogy. Opener "Transmission" is undeniably one of his moth forthright tunes to date - a bombastic, riot-inducing anthem fuelled by thunderous electro bass and mind-altering riffs. There's also a tech-tinged feel to the rave-meets-D&B heaviness of "Transmission", while "Dominator Mode" contains some of his toughest drums to date. Elsewhere, "Lockdown" is a buzzing hum of throbbing energy and "Dreaming" tips a wink to the producer's liquid past via a wonderfully sauced-eyed fusion of blissful musicality and tight bottom-end pressure.

Persistence Of Memory 1 (7:22)
Persistence Of Memory 2 (7:52)
Persistence Of Memory 3 (6:31)
Review: Mysterious UK producer returns with more grey area perspectives, courtesy of Felix K's label. These three tracks lurk in the grey area: the space between techno and drum and bass. On the A side, the first version of "Persistence Of Memory" is a textured dub techno experiment, redolent of classic Basic Channel by way of Italian hypnotic techno sensibilities. A raw, brazenly analogue and bass heavy thumper represents the second rendition, much in the vein of Clone Basement Series or Livity Sound: keeping in mind that he appeared on the latter with his previous EP Jinx/Scanners earlier in 2017. The roaring B side cut shows a side of the producer not seen since his Jungle Crack EP last year. This is a pure techstep: late '90s style and calls to mind the early work of Trace or Ed Rush & Optical where this producer possibly returns to their roots.

Review: Cosmic Bridge founder, longstanding beat sculptor, futurist, absolute don: Om Unit continues to compose some some of the most beguiling, bewitching and immersive compositions in the bass sphere. Self is his third and most explorative album so far as he guides and glides us through powerful atmospheres, dynamics and textures from palpitating ambient such as the opener "Cold Love" and harmonic "Passages" and warped light fractures of "Fieldofdreams" to neoclassical motifs on rolling tracks such as "Out Of The Shadows". Other unmissable highlights include the haunted Rider Shafique sermon "Nothing", the jittering cosmic soul of "Make Believe" with DRS and Amos's heart-pulling mystic soul of "What I Can Be". One of those albums that continues to offer more and more with every listen, Om Unit has created something incredibly special here.

Lucky Charm (5:17)
Blips (3:53)
Nighthawks (4:33)
Missing Pieces (feat Javeon) (4:58)
Review: Hot on the heels of Monty's EP comes another barbed and bulging EP from 1985 bossman Perez. Tapping into his darker, heavier machine funk tendencies, this is Alix in 3am drum & bass dance mode: "Lucky Charm" is a purring subby low-rider, "Blips" is straight back to 2009 with its angular two-step, sinewy sound design and badman bass and "Nighthawks" is a dark soul roller with subtle samplecraft and pranged out basses. "Missing Pieces" brings us back down to earth safe and sound with a much dreamier atmosphere wrapped lavishly around Perez's light-footed beats and Javeon's distinctive soulful tones. 1985 out of 10.

Review: Navi's Jungle To The World album has been an immense project involving a rich range of roots and jungle culture's most influential and talented souls. Here are four of the many highlights; Serum's outrageous rolling VIP of his and Navi's instant sing-along "Sound The Alarm", the sparkling sun-kissed twist on "Jah Promise", the premium mid 90s Playaz style gulliness of "Heavy Like Tank" and Ray Keith-dented heavily warped take on "Soundwar". Four fire fixtures; no one does it like Navigator.

Track 2 (5:09)
Track 3 (4:51)
Review: Got any soundclashes coming up? If the answer is no, you best organise some because these are prime clash bashers: guaranteed to slew the opposition with 1994 authenticity and 2017 clarity. All untitled and heavily laced with some of the classic vocals and samples of the time, "Track 1" is the badman homage, "Track 2" dips into funky light-footed skank while "Track 3" rolls out on more of a loopy ragga-fronted vibe before switching into some iconic vocals. You can't so no to this.

Baby Blue (feat Lenzman) (4:57)
Review: Lenzman's North Quarter hits its stride once again with another superb collection from one of the scene's most tireless, unsung heroes. This time it's FD who takes the reigns with four outstanding pieces of soul: "Always Something" features one of the best MCs in the game - Fox. Flowing between his sweet bars and deep singing style, it's one of Fox's most delicately laid down tracks to date (which is saying something) Elsewhere "Ice Cream" hits on the up-notes with a loose drum energy, fresh energy and another scorching vocal, "This Is Now" is a much slinkier, bass-licked dancefloor swinger while "Baby Blue" blasts us off into the ether with dreamy vocal textures and warm-but-warped synths. Stunning and timeless.

Flow Bit (6:04)
Review: He's called martianMan because he genuinely sounds like he's from outer space. But his name could just as easily be typo and actually be MachineMan because he's firing out relentless workouts this year and they've all been precision blinders. His fifth EP this year, this one is no exception as we're iced out by heavy pressure pads on "Focus", we're thrown off guard by some meticulous drum work on "The Wild" and "Box Out" while "Flow Bit" wraps up on more of 98-style jazz drum flare with just a mild whiff of Photek in the flowing, molten bass melody that does its own thing on its own terms. Top shelf jungle business.

Water Bucket (original mix) (5:46)
Review: Soundsystem professor Digital maintains his spotless flow this year with another dynamite 12" on his own Function imprint. "Rejection" should be known to all - a powerful roller that's soundtracked many a Rupture gets a drum rework and added energy from the man himself before we drop into two versions of "Water Bucket". The original is a 140 vibe with classic dub waves and ripples, lush horns, toxic subs and a militant stomp while the drum & bass remix ups the energy with some turbine amens and a drone bass that squeezes your inner ears with insistency. Classic Digital.

Dom & Tech Itch - "Phoenix" (6:05)
Dom & Roland - "Tears In Rain" (6:54)
Review: Two more stone cold artefacts from the golden era vaults: Dom & Roland continues to unearth more treasures in the form of "Phoenix" and "Tears In The Rain". The former is a Tech Itch co-lab from the mid 90s that charges with rusty drum edits and a drop into a stripped back sub groove and twisted shades of acid while the latter looks back to his "Mechanics" chapter with a rampant, heavily layered heads-down roll, spooked-out overtones and a classic Bladerunner sample. Just like the vinyls themselves, these are foundation-era gold.

Review: What a trip it's been for Spectrasoul; going solo with their label Ish Chat in spring 2016, they've assaulted us continuously over the course of 18 months. Taking us deep, dark, soulful, savage with abandon; never before has their melting pot been so fizzy or foundational. Naturally this third album is no exception as we glide and slide between the styles; the "Glimpse"-style space soul of "Move On", the Fracture-like hardcore references on "Push & Pull", the trembling chimes, sweeping strings and delicate vocals of "Wrong To Love You"(with LSB), the classic techstep movement of "Pinger" are just a handful of on-point constructions from a duo who are living the creative dream right now. Essential.
