Overcome (9:00)
Lady Science (NYC Sunrise) (9:22)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Trelik returns with a repackaged edition of one of the catalogue's most treasured releases. "Overcome" and "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)" need little introduction, and now come sporting the new TR11:11 matrix number. Written and produced by Thomas Melchior and Baby Ford aka Soul Capsule, these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the West London Ifach Studio in 1999. On the A Side "Overcome" is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the flip, "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)". Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike. Remastered by Rashad at D & M.

I Get Deeper (original LNTG mix) (6:46)
I Get Deeper (Cassian rework) (6:16)
Review: Australian techno royalty Carmelo Bianchetti has put out a lot of music under the Late Night Tuff Guy alias with his 2007 tweak of Roland Clark classic "I Get Deep" among his best work. Originally released through the short lived TBot's All Nite House Party label, the track is given a timely reissue through Bianchetti's own Tuff Cut label in newly remastered form. Clark's classic vocal would be arguably be a hit over anything with a 4/4 groove, but there is something satisfying about this grimy arrangement from LNTG. Complementing this is a fresh take on the track from Sydney's Cassian.

String Theory
Poisoned Words
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Mandar are back on Oscillat Music following their stunning five-disc LP from last year, and the deep house super group are sounding as vital as ever. "String Theory" holds court over the A side and promises to be the soundtrack to many a heart-stirring moment under starry skies this summer. The titular strings are a powerful force in this track, bringing a classy brand of emotion to the slinky dancefloor tones Mandar are best known for. "Poisoned Worlds" is a deeper club cut that places the emphasis on crafty drum science for after hours crew, providing a neat balance to the show-stopping tones of the A side.

Sullric (Deeper dub) (12:09)
Review: In what is surely an unexpected collaboration in the field of house and techno, Mosaic mastermind Steve O'Sullivan teams up with Ricardo Villalobos for a hypnotic trip through minimal landscapes that plays to both of their strengths. The rock-solid rhythm of "Sullric" surely belongs to O'Sullivan while the rich, subtle layers of samples, tones and other such sonic decorations come straight from the Villalobos school of production. The two mixes on this 12" only have minor differences - whichever side you drop things will get considerably deeper than they were previously. Of such ingredients are classy, immersive techno joints made.

Track 1 (10:07)
Review: The shadowy EEE series has already brought us tasty and much-played tech-house interpretations of a familiar jazz-house gem and a string-laden '80s synth-pop shuffler. Their third single-sided affair - as championed by Zip and Riccardo, no less - takes on a much-loved early noughties R&B classic, placing carefully selected and sequenced vocal snippets around a seriously snappy and sub-bass-heavy groove. Although tech-house in style - note the glitchy electronic noises and spacey effects fixed to the beats - the track's infectious rhythm track was clearly influenced by the current electro revival. This added swing and shoulder-swinging looseness, coupled with the familiarity of the vocal elements, makes EEE03 a guaranteed peak-time winner.

Compas (5:39)
Belhara (7:10)
Review: Parisian smooth groovers Lazare Hoche team up with Traumer to deliver this fresh transmission of subliminal minimal house from the heart of the French underground. "Seascape" is a perfectly measured trip through shimmering synth pulses and a hypnotic rhythmic tick, contrasting neatly with the weighty thump of "Compas" which opens up the B-side. "Belhara" closes the record out with some gorgeous ambient melodic threads that flirt around a pumped up beat that counts among the most uptempo work that has been put out on Lazare Hoche. It's another classy addition to the label's catalogue, sure to find favour with scores of the minimal house fraternity.

Brigade (7:29)
Serious (7:30)
Eight (Vinyl Only) (7:23)
Review: More tough rolling tech house on the minimal tip from London based heroes FUSE and a true staple of their imprint: Rich NxT. Beginning with the funked up functionalism of "Brigade" and its hip-hop house samples throughout, which is then followed on the B side by the release standout in the form of "Serious" with its catchy vocal samples atop - possibly from an old Italo or even pop record. This sunny festival inspired cut will appeal to other cheeky and likeminded DJ tools by the likes of Kirik - or anything on ODE, really. Next up, he gets back to the program on the bangin' and swing fuelled party jam "Fight" which will really get the hands in the air down at Hearn Street car park this Summer. In addition to around half a dozen releases for the imprint thus far, NxT's also found time to release on Germany's Pleasure Zone and Hund as well as his eponymous white label imprint.

Silverlining - "Breezin Thru" (7:24)
Doodlebug - "Loose In Your Mind" (Silverlining remix) (7:03)
Review: Yet more gems from the Silverlining studio, this time turning to the much sought after "Breezin Thru" track originally released in 1998. This is a true classic from the golden era of tech house, rooted in the London scene defined by the likes of Terry Francis and the like, and yet it sounds like it could have been made yesterday. The strident, upfront beat and immersive atmospheric shimmers are pure dancefloor gold. On the flip, Andy Blake and Dave Coker's Doodlebug project gets the remix treatment, winding up as crafty electro breaks with a tilt towards the deep end of the dance.

Iso Grifo

Round
Review: In the field of minimal house reissues, this is a big deal. Perlon main man Dimbiman doesn't appear on wax often, but when he does he makes it count. This early release on Baby Ford's seminal Pal SL was originally out in 1998, when minimal house was a vague concept at best on the most outer reaches of dance music. "Iso Grifo" itself remains a masterclass of spine-chilling space and perfectly strange sonic matter, while "Lava" pushes the notion of reduction dance music to its absolute limit. "Round" is an even more immersive affair that hides many subtle layers within its seemingly simple construct. Quite simply groundbreaking stuff, and highly sought after so don't sleep on it.

Review: Makcim & Levi have been taking their time sneaking out stone cold minimal house killers on Raum...Musik, Apollonia and Lazare Hoche in the past, and now they step up to Mandar's label Oscillat Music with the snappily titled On A Springroll EP. The title track is a bugging, funking workout with splashes of psychedelia swirling in between the chirpy bassline. "HW1" is a dreamier affair for the deep, late morning crowd, and "Jelmeratu" slips into that frame of mind perfectly as well. "Allwin" has sharper edges, keeping things as stripped as possible for the perfect functional micro house tool.

Groaning Ghosts
Review: Edward's graceful take on modern house and techno is a perfect fit for Trelik, and the German producer sounds comfortable as he unfurls swooning threads of otherworldly music for the tripped out dancefloor. The "Ogermania Mx" of "Mikko" is a hazy, string soaked affair pitched somewhere warm and dreamlike, but there's plenty of energy churning away in the lower register. "Lottery" is a more twitchy affair for darker times, all moody bass bounce and looming drones around a shuffling set of percussion. "Groaning Ghosts" is the techiest of the bunch, and there's a whole lot of freaked out sound design swirling around in the mix as well. This is simply stunning, highly advanced dance music from a modern day maestro.

Review: The Politics of Dancing crew are launching a brand new venture here, instigating some choice collaborative action with their nearest and dearest, jammed out and cut to wax for your listening and spinning pleasure. Of course it figures that they'd start this project close to home, bringing in some of their Parisian brethren for two assured cuts of heads down, straight up house music. Review: The master of dark journey tracks known as Recondite returns, this time for Scuba's esteemed Hotflush imprint. The sombre and doomy vibes of the title track are a bit more restrained than Lorenz Brunner's usual tracks but just as foreboding with those now trademark 'wonky' melodies which truly work a treat. "Warg" on the flip has a bit more momentum and definitely more elements incorporated into its sound. It's funky, in a brooding way of course; with another epic melody for some seriously dramatic dancefloor moments that he's known for.

Inspired in no small part by the rich seam of house that he's been excavating with his fine Magicwire imprint, this is where the guy shows you all once again just how dusty and lo-fi things can actually get. Starting off with the early nineties rave stomp of "Crush Mood", on the flip there's some deeper strains of classic throwback sounds in the form of the lovely "Chroma" with its neon lit synths and vintage drum computer sounds working in perfect harmony while "From A Past Life" calls to mind Derrick Carter's Oneiro project from the nineties on this rolling and hypnotic jam which is so damn lush!

Lagrange Point
Review: In a short space of time prodigious Dutch producer Pascal Benjamin has built up a catalogue of ear-snagging minimal house confections for labels like Welt, Norse Projekt, Algorhythmic and Botanic Minds. Now he's hitting the big time with this 12" on the mighty SlapFunk, and he's packing just the kind of chunky, swinging but ultimately lean jams they love. "Out Of Line" keeps things focused on the drums, with just some sub bass and microscopic threads of sonic matter in between. "To GoodTo Be Who?" is equally stripped down, but decidedly more wriggly in its make up, and then "Finest Hour" kicks off the B-side with some fatter beats and a more prominent bass line. "Lagrange Point" finishes the EP off with some subliminal bleeps and tones pinging in between the wafer thin percussive pulses.

Alternate (Steve O'Sullivan remix) (8:34)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Sideway Invisibility Theory are already well versed in the Romanian minimal scene both individually and as a duo - on top of their releases on Do Easy and Amphia, Cristi Cons and Vlad Caia represent two of the most prolific operators in the second wave of Bucharest-based dance music. With a mammoth wedge of music delivered to Sushitech in the form of two double packs entitled Invisibility Chapter I & II, this single serves as a pint-sized distillation of those records for the DJs with less time on their hands. "Alternate" is right at home on Sushitech, all elegant beat programming and huge, billowing clouds of dub chord. Review: With German and Ghanaian DNA, Ben Rau is blessed with the best of both cultures - and the combination of influences from his forefathers permeates into his music. Infectious rhythmic grooves and emotive melodies mix together to form a rich, deep and hypnotic formula that speaks to your very soul. A native Berliner, he moved to the UK several years back to study and upon immersing himself in the London scene, hooked up with Enzo Siragusa and the FUSE crew - with whom he is still a resident to this day. Since striking out on his own with the Inkal imprint as an outlet for his own productions, he serves up his best yet on its fourth release. "Malice" leads the charge with a plethora of eerie synth textures flexing organically round the sturdy beat, while "Monolith" slips into a slinkier groove while keeping the tripped out tone tweaking at the forefront of our minds. Review: Under his longstanding DJ Honesty alias, veteran producer Hans Schaaf has delivered some fantastic music over the past two decades. Happily, he appears to be getting more productive as the years roll by, with this three-tracker on Bass Culture marking his third 12" of 2017. With its bustling bassline, relentless cymbals, Motor City motifs and carefully placed dub effects, lead cut "Moment" sits somewhere between hypnotic European techno and ocean-deep house. This hybrid vibe is even more noticeable on Losoul's epic flipside remix, which subtly toughens up the track and stretches it out to 11 mesmerizing minutes. Further thrills are provided via bonus cut "Gamma", a more bumpin' deep house roller with heavy New Jersey influences.

Review: Parisian producer Gab Jr has been active for a couple of years now, mainly appearing on Automatic Writing with a quirky strain of minimal house that harks back to the fine legacy of leftfield 4/4 oddities that have hailed from the French capital since the 90s. Albion Records clearly dig that sound, having previously welcomed Ark into their ranks, and Gab jr sounds right at home slapping down the chunky rhythm and spannered sound bites of "Indecent Exposure." "Drunk & Disorderly" pares the beat down and ramps the freakiness up with a killer synth hook and some oddball vocal processing, and then "Fraudulent Cheque" bowls across the B side in a fit of tough drums and screwy micro sampling.

Review: Jack's House is back with another wedge of crucial cuts from a spread of big hitters, kicking off with Alex Arnout and the tightly wound roller "Hypersomnia." Tuccillo is in a heads down mood on "Another Day," letting the drums and the bassline do the brunt of the work. Terry Francis favours a heavy, smoky sound palette that has a bassline that will do some serious damage on a decent system - "Jua" is easily the strongest track on the record. Review: The Jack's House label lays out a manifesto on the brand of refined deep and minimal house that makes its switch flick with this choice various artists release. Two Diggers are up first with "Trick Me", a subtle but immersive slice of deep house that punches where it counts. James Dexter takes a trippier approach with "Cables", letting artful delays and modulation ping around the mix for a truly standout club jam. 2VILAS have a focused drive behind "Verve", but then Miffy & Miller come bowling in at the 11th hour with "Vertiver" and pump things up to a mid-00s Plus 8 style bounce, and who can blame them when they bring such peak-time heat?

Lead track "Faith" is a feisty little groover, threading a wealth of field recordings and playful synth flourishes in between the fundamental rhythm section. "Get Up" has a freakier micro house bump to it that harks back to Burnski's Trapez days, while "Vertigo" does a marvelous job of spinning ones head right out with all manner of quivering synth tones. Review: The Jus Groove It label is, of course, all about deep house music, and who better to help them in their quest than Djebali? The French producer is on exceptional form with the reduced but utterly seductive remix of Rhythm&Soul's "Andromeda's Dream", making dubbed out melodics and a mean bassline do all the work to deadly effect. Shintaro D gets reworked by Mr KS on the flip, and things get a little freakier with some errant synth wobbles and a minimal groove making for a distinctive, ear-snagging end result. It's definitely a record of two halves, and fortunately both halves are excellent.

Review: The first volume in the mysterious EEE series simply flew off the shelves. It featured a tidy, on-point rework of one of the most celebrated jazz-house records of all time. This time round, the mystery remixer - who seems to prefer subtly beefing up tracks with new beats and one or two new musical elements - sets his or her sights on a classic chunk of moody British synth-pop from Basildon's finest. The new rhythm track sits somewhere between metallic electro and hypnotic tech-house (think clipped, fizzing electronics, and squeezable kick-drum sounds), while much is made of the original synthesizer strings and recognizable vocal. It's a tidy and undeniably floor-friendly version, all told, and will no doubt be very popular with DJs.

The tempo is ramped up on "Reform," which features a plethora of wriggling sound design flourishes to accentuate the subtle swing on the track, while "Deactivating HAL" places the same sound palette in a more crafty 2-step framework that ranks among the most distinctive tracks Jay has produced to date. Asiko (In A Silent Mix) (Ricardo Villalobos remix - part 2) (13:42)
Review: Tony Allen's "Asiko", the leading tune on his 1999 LP Black Voices, has been a favourite of our regardless of impeding remixes, reworks, or reissues. It's still a pinnacle of the future jazz movement, blowing everything else out the water in the process. Rightfully, Holland's Dekmantel have decided to resurrect its timeless qualities and to give German-Chilean legend Ricardo Villalobos the tools to deliver some reinterpretations. Thanks to Honest Jon's Records, the two have already worked together, and Villalobos' ritualistic percussion has proven to work wonders next to Allen's legendary drumming and arrangmements. In short, it's as if they were made for each other - two ends of the spectrum that merge beautifully. The firs remix is moody, funky, and absolutely lit, banging out hypnotic drums over deep bass and glitch sonics, while the second part strips the beats out in favour of more wide-eyed melodics, infused with a futuristic style of jazz that is prone to opening minds. Warmly recommended.
